Rating: Summary: I tossed cookies in my popcorn Review: Most possibly the worst movie I've ever seen. If only there were an option to give a film a negative rating. The character Mary is about as transparent as J-Hose awards show gowns... and it proves once and for all that she is as poor an actor as musician. Just pairing those words along side the Lopez name diminish the meaning of both. One thig I can say for the character Mary, an Itilian by the way, is that she had an uncanny ability to slip unto a latino accent with no warning whatsoever, or... could it be that Ms. lopez is unable to stay in character? I really feel sorry for Mr. McConaughy for being cast in such a loathsome excuse for a film. He did a spectacular job at creating some interest, but one man can't make up for a horrible script. If you plan on seeing/renting this film, do yourself a favor and pray that you are involved in a fatal accident while en-route to the theatre or rental shop.
Rating: Summary: Horrible, Dull, Dimwitted Review: I thought I would watch this movie with my wife, who really wanted to see it. It was horrible. I was embarrassed for the actors in it. I had to leave the room; I couldn't finish watching this awful movie! I would have given it zero stars if I could have. It's that bad. Do not waste your time with this movie. It's terrible.
Rating: Summary: VERY heart-warming romantic comedy Review: The day I saw this movie, I was with my dad, his fiancée, and her daughter. We had originally planned to go bowling, but it was too crowded, so, we went to the movie theater instead. Anyway, in my opinion, THE WEDDING PLANNER is a VERY heart-warming romantic comedy. I thought that Mary (Jennifer Lopez) and Fran (Bridgette Wilson-Sampras) looked VERY beautiful in all their dressy clothing -- Especially their wedding dresses. This film REALLY touched my heart and made me feel good. In conclusion, I HIGHLY recommend this smash hit to all you Jennifer Lopez or Matthew McConaughey fans who have not seen it. When you see it, prepare to have a good time and be touched.
Rating: Summary: A ROMANTIC COMEDY EVEN A GUY CAN... LIKE!!! Review: As a guy I usually don't like romantic comedies. They're either too sappy or not really funny or just to predictable. But damn, if this movie didn't blow me away. It's funny, it's fun (to steal from Billy Crystal) it holds your attention and it keeps you guessing as to what's going to happen until the very end!!! Jennifer and Matthew have awesome chemistry together and you really root for them to get together. On the other hand, all the supporting players are really well written and funny. The top of my list is the guy who played Massimo. That character was totally funny (I wouldn't mind seeing a movie about that guy) and by the end you kind of really care about him. And the fourth part of the puzzle is Pete Sampras's wife, Bridgette Wilson, who's not only a hottie from Billy Madison (she was the teacher) but she's really funny too. To be honest, I had no idea this movie was going to be so good. So for all you guys out there --- take a chance, you'll be totally surprised. Also, the DVD has got some great extras. The commentary by the Director and the writers is really funny. The writers used to be a couple and that adds a new layer to watching the film. And if you keep listening, you'll hear how all three of them sort of get on each other's nerves. Also, the deleted scenes are all really interesting and help give the film a little more weight, you kind of wish they would have left all the scenes in. But that's what a great DVD does, makes you want more. TWO THUMBS UP!!! WAY UPPPPP!!!!
Rating: Summary: IT STINKS !!!! Review: I SAW THIS MOVIE WITH MY FAMILY, THINKING THAT WE IT WILL BE FUNNY. I ONLY CAN SCREAM THIS: WHAT A DECEPTION !!! WHO TOLD JENNIFER LOPEZ THAT SHE CAN ACT ? THE DOCTOR MUST BE CRAZY TO EXCHANGE A BEAUTIFULL GIRL FOR LOPEZ. MAYBE HE WAS CRAZY, DRUNK OR .... DON'T EVEN RENT IT. LESS BUY IT, YOU WILL LOSE YOUR MONEY.
Rating: Summary: High expectations, but a mildly disappointing film Review: I REALLY wanted to see this film when it came out in the theaters, and then anxiously awaited its release on DVD. the movie looks like something that was perfect for me. I am a passionate fan of romantic comedies, and I have enjoyed Jennifer Lopez in nearly all her films. The good news is that she was fine in this movie. She was cute as a button, charming, convincing, and someone you really come to care for and feel with as a character. The bad news is that the screenplay really hurt the movie as a whole. There is a traditional way of doing romantic comedies. Boy (or girl) meets girl (or boy). Boy gets girl. Boy loses girl. Boy gets girl back. In recent years, filmmakers haven't been content with this formula, but instead want to keep us on our toes about that final "Boy gets girl back." The film that really solidified this for us in recent years was MY BEST FRIEND'S WEDDING. And I suspect that the screenwriters of THE WEDDING PLANNING imagined that we had all seen that "other" wedding movie (though FORCES OF NATURE, a much lesser film, also plays a number of variations on the traditional wedding comedy). Yet another wedding comedy, THE RUNAWAY BRIDE, also engages in some of this "Do the guy and girl really get together in the end" revisionism. This attempt to keep us on our toes seems to be to be a major mistake. The point of a formula like "Boy meets girl, etc." is seeing how well the screenplay and director deal with the limitations imposed by that formula. In the greatest romantic comedies, the ingenuity in dealing with how the couple inevitably get back together is at least part of the delight of the movie. Compare these recent wedding movies with THE PALM BEACH STORY or THE PHILADELPHIA STORY or THE AWFUL TRUTH or THE LADY EVE or IT HAPPENED ONE NIGHT. But more recently the trend has been to shake up the genre itself. THE WEDDING PLANNER, therefore, becomes Girl Meets Boy, Girl Loses Boy, Girl Nearly Gets Boy Back, Girl Decides to Get Another Guy, Guy Decides to Stick with His Original Girl, etc., etc. The film gets very messy with the result that through the last half of this film, I was seriously stressed about who was going to end up with whom, and was starting to feel pain for whoever was going to get hurt (and the fact that no one gets hurt in this film lends to the overall artificiality of the plot). By the end of the film, I found myself not caring who ended up with whom, but instead just didn't want anyone to get hurt. And I felt that neither the getting together nor the not getting hurt were handled well. The effect of this film is (1) to make me hope Jennifer Lopez does more, and better, comedies in the future and (2) that those writing screenplays for romantic comedies go back and study some of the old classics, and give some serious thought as to why they were so successful.
Rating: Summary: Awesome!!!! Review: This movie left me smiling and feeling all warm inside. Sure, it was kind of sappy. But the acting talents of both Lopez and McConaughey made it a film well worth watching. Lopez is witty and cute and the quiet, handsome romantic side of McConaughey leaves virtually any woman swooning. This love story is one of those that makes you giggle and "awwwww" but leaves you with a good feeling in the end. For once, a story that works out the way everyone wants it too!! :)
Rating: Summary: Well, it's no "Valley Girl" but... Review: Just kidding, even though I love that movie! This movie was cute and the sexual tension and attraction was great, but is that just because it's Matthew? I feel that if they kept the Deleted Scenes IN the movie, the movie would have been so much better. I guess that's a plus for owning a DVD player. Those Deleted Scenes made the movie make a little more sense. All in all, it was a fairly good movie to pass the time with.
Rating: Summary: Enjoyable romantic comedy Review: Jennifer Lopez's character is hard not to like. She seems so lonely, yet she is not bitter. Instead, she makes it her career to bring couples to the altar. Watching her struggle as a woman in love with a client and choosing between her career and love makes this movie truly enjoyable. While this movie is not going to be an award winning film, it provides everything that a fan of romantic comedies desires: a happy ending and a lighthearted story with many laughs. The DVD also includes some deleted scenes which were very interesting to a person who has already seen the movie and just wants more.
Rating: Summary: What Can I Say? It Was Fluffy Review: It's hard to say anything too positive or too negative about The Wedding Planner. It's just the typical romantic comedy fluff piece that isn't so bad or so original that it keeps running through your mind whether it be in curses or in dreamy thoughts. Matthew McConaughey puts in a decent performance as Dr. Steve, the romantic interest to Lopez's Mary. Again, decent, but very forgettable. He does have a certain helpless looking face that breaks through in some scenes that works very well. I have a very hard time separating Jennifer Lopez's music and movie careers. (This is a greater testament to how image focussed society is today than anything else!) I just really couldn't buy into her in the role of the character of Mary. She plays the part as well as can be expected, but I couldn't look at her without thinking of Puff Daddy and booty shorts. Go figure. This is definitely one of those movies that in its effort to not hurt any of the characters doesn't make any emotional impact on its viewers. It's a mild two hour diversion which you'll watch and forget about a week later.
