Summary: Nothing like I expected
Review: I think that America's Sweetheart's should only get 2 star's. Don't get me wrong, I thought that it was going to be really really spectacular and I love Julia Roberts and Billy Crystal but it just didn't turn out to be the sort of love story I pictured it to be.

Review: Although four of Hollywood's finests starred in the movie, it was not enough to save this supposedly "Hit romantic comedy of the year." It was highly overrated and didn't fully live up to its expectations. I was a little disappointed, however, I do admit Julia Roberts shined once again (as always). Take my advice, watch "Legally Blonde" instead.

Summary: "Sweethearts" aren't so Sweet after all!
Review: "America's Sweethearts" is what movie critics and the public would call a "crowd pleaser". Everyone sorta knows what to expect from this movie, and the only way we're going to enjoy it is if we get what we paid for. Julia Roberts is here for all the sweet romantic scenes, with a girl-next-door look. Plus she's there for the guys to stare at. Then, there's John Cusack for the ladies to gawk at, with what I guess would be called a "boyish quality", and Billy Crystal's rounding up everything to be there for the laughs. The real problem with this movie is, there aren't many laughs. All the "jokes" are mostly what you would call "smile material". Yes, I freely admit, I was smiling durning some parts of the movie, but only actually laughed maybe twice. What this movie really needed was that satirical edge other "inside Hollywood" movies have had, like "The Muse", "Bowfinger" , and "The Player". There's no "bite" here at all. There are no real witty remarks by Crystal or the other characters. The screenplay by Peter Tolan and Crystal to put nicely, isn't funny. The characters are one dimensional, so that when romantic scenes happen , we just don't care. Everyone is given little to work with. And, I was really suprised to see what kind of awful role Julia Roberts was given. I'm actually a fan of her's and have made it a point to see all her films when released, so no one should think I'm just bashing her. But, for someone who's just won an Oscar, she barely serves a purpose. Infact, they could of gotten anyone to play her part. John Cuscack I must admit was OK here, even he has done better. Catherine Zeta-Jones was having a good time. And, we can all tell. Crystal though actually has the best developed character (how sad is that! Did you ever think you would read that! lol). He's is the only character that they seem to put some thought into, I guess because he's the one who would provide all the "jokes". I don't want to seem like I hated this movie, because I didn't completely hate it. I really wanted to like it, I went into the movie expecting some sort of funny, even at times romantic movie that would be enjoyable. "America's Sweethearts" has it's heart in the right place. It's was going in the right direction, only it made a detour and could never quite get back on track. ** 1\2 out of *****

p.s.- There are some cameos here by Larry King, and film critic Patrick Stoner. And Alan Arkin even turns up. Christoper Walkin, Stanley Tucci, Seth Green, and Hank Azaria also have brief roles as well.

Summary: Very funny
Review: This movie was very funny and it kept the movie watcher in stitch. Billy Crystal was great as the agent trying to bring America's favorite couple back together. Julia Roberts was great as the sister of Catherine Zeta Jones character Gwen. If you want to spend an afternoon laughing then this movie is for you.

Summary: awful
Review: Though I am sure there there were movies as bad as this, I do not remember a movie being this boring. Very few laughs.

Summary: One of the funniest star-studded movies I've ever seen
Review: Much of my lung capacity was used for laughing the night I saw this movie. There are so many funny parts I don't even know where to begin, and maybe I shouldn't, because I don't want to spoil the movie.

But it's not just the comedy that I like about this movie. This movie also features a huge cast that goes right up to the top with the likes of Deconstructing Harry, Toy Story 2, and Charlie's Angels. I enjoy seeing Julia Roberts in a supporting role for a change, also.

I think the script is another fine point in the movie, despite what all the cranky critics say. I like the way Hollywood poke fun at itself in this movie, while tying in with the great plot that serves up several plot twists in the movie. I also like the way the movie keeps itself light and funny, despite some sex jokes here and there. But all of that means nothing compared to one of the best parts in this movie which is near the end, when Gwen and Eddie's latest movie is finally shown to the press, when something you don't expect happens that not only takes the rest of the movie in a new direction, but has you howling with laughter as well. (You've got to see it to believe me.)

So, to summarize, this movie is a laugh-a-minute comedy with a stellar cast and a great script. What's not to like?

Summary: Very enjoyable movie
Review: This movie has a great cast and it kept a smile on my face during the whole movie. I thought that the movie was very enjoyable to watch as well as extremely funny. It's the type of movie that you want to go to if you need to put a smile on your face.

Summary: Sweethearts Fall Flat
Review: I think the movies was not very funny. It starts as a spoof and ends by taking itself seriously. Nor is this movie particularly romantic. It comes accross as contrived as the press junkets it ridicules.

Summary: Average
Review: I think this movie is average depite having an All-Star cast. John Cusak turns in a great performance, but Julia Roberts and Billy Crystal have turned in much better performances in other movies. If you expect mindless comedy, you'll get what you expect. It's worth seeing, just don't pay full price.

Summary: America's Sweet-tarts
Review: A little sweet, a little tart. This movie, overall was pretty good. It had some hilarious scenes, (including Julia Roberts in a fat suit), and some funny lines, but there was a downside. Imagine this- a movie about movie people made by movie people. You wonder............. I do recommend to see it for yourself though, because it wasn't trash. It was good for a laugh, and I really liked Julia Roberts in it, (actually I liked all of them in it, but I'm usually not a huge Julia fan). Anyway, go see it, you might like it more than I did!
