Rating: Summary: Should have been the Best Picture of 1997 Review: Unfortunately, everyone got caught up in the hype of Titanic in '97, so, of course, As Good As It Gets was overlooked come Oscar time. Sure, it got the awards for Best Actor and Actress, but it deserved much more than just two measly awards. Do yourself a favor and watch this.
Rating: Summary: Jack Nicholson is the s***. Review: "As Good As It Gets" is one of the most purely entertaining movies ever made. It is funny, sad, romantic, and it captures your heart with its witty dialogue and stellar performances, especially by it's Oscar-winning leads. Melvin Udall is a man that would make any waitress quit her job.
Rating: Summary: Astoundingly good Review: This film has maybe the cleverist, smoothest, and fulfilling script of all time. The dialogue and the what you learn about the characters from the dialogue is unbelievable (Steinbeck but faster and lighter). The film as a whole is also delightful. Nothing but pure enjoyment here. This film can say and mean alot to anyone so stating one meaning is purposeless (and I'm not the kind of person who says that all the time). The only thing I disagree with with the reviews below is how many people said Kinear was better than Nicholson. Kinear was touching and graceful and yes should have recieved the oscar but Nicholson was pure genius. Just try to mimic what he did without looking like a jackass. He played one of the most difficult roles in history to perfection. I was never a Nichoslon fan until I saw this movie (the only other thing I saw him in was that piece of sh*t, A Few Good Men) but this performance compelled me to follow up one his acting and now I am convinced he is one the the greatest film actors ever.
Rating: Summary: Awful, I don't know how did it get an oscar!!! Review: I was shocked when I saw the film, it was really boring. Helen Hunt was o.k., but the others are not. The story is soooo silly, disgusting and I really wasted my time on watching it. It didn't worth any oscar at all!
Rating: Summary: One of the best I've ever seen. Review: You may view this film at the superficial level as a good romantic comedy. Within that comedy, though, lies recurrent themes on the meaning of life, love, and humanity.
Rating: Summary: Great story! The acting is even better! Review: This is one of the best movies I've watched in the last several years. The give and take between Jack Nicholson and Helen Hunt is a rare treat. Very enjoyable movie. This one will be a tough act to follow.
Rating: Summary: THE BEST FILM OF 97!!! Review: I saw this movie without knowing anything about it, and it was like founding a 100 dollar bill in the street, you don't spect it but you love it. I think this movie should have won for best picture, I think it was better thas Titanic and with better actors too, I think Jack Nicholson is one of the best actors of all time and Hellen Hunt is a great actress too.
Rating: Summary: Did not like it at all Review: I must admit I hated this film. I sensed absolutely no chemistry between Helen Hunt and Jack Nicholson whatsoever. Nicholson played himself yet again. His racist/homophobic/anti-semetic comments weren't supposed to be funny ... or were they? Hearing the audience laugh at Nicholson's bigotry sent chills down my spine. The only saving grace of this film was the acting of Greg Kinnear. Ironically he was the only actor to not receive an award for his work in this film, but the only one who deserved it.
Rating: Summary: Helen Hunt Review: Uh, uh...... Helen Hunt is hot all the time but in this movie she is so fine. Oh yeah all the other actors did a good job also.
Rating: Summary: Fantastic! Review: Great film -- the dialogue is about as sharp as it could get, and Nicholson is as crass as ever! My fave line -- "I think people who use metaphors in conversation should shampoo my crotch!" Hunt did well, as Did Cuba and all, but I have to say my fave was Kinnear -- what a beautifully acted role! I nearly fell in love with his character! Fantastic, thumbs up to all, especially Kinnear -- a must see for those lovers of black humor and biting dialogue
