Summary: As far as romantic comedies go, this is As Good As It Gets!
Review: I really, really LOVE this movie! Jack Nicholson plays, (to perfection,I might add!), a grumpy, neurotic, anti-social writer who appears to have a personal grudge against all of humanity. His character comes off as being extremely unlikable, yet at the same time, incredibly funny, (in a weird, grumpy, neurotic sort of way)! In the movie, he comes in contact with a down-to-earth waitress, a gay neighbor, (and one small dog), who eventually bring him back in touch with his "human side," (which even he seems surprised to possess)! This is definitely a "dialogue" movie, jam-packed with humorous, witty, and smart exchanges! Yes, the love affair between Jack Nicholson and Helen Hunt is a bit unbelievable, but hey - it's just a movie! And, as far as movies go, it's INCREDIBLY entertaining! So, unless you have something against laughing out loud all the way through a film, I recommend buying As Good As It Gets!

Summary: very run of the mill
Review: who hasn't already seen this film done oh say about 75-80 different times already?Helen Hunt is a so/so actress.nothing really special about her character.as for Jack Nicholson is he ever gonna change his style? to me he is just like the Rolling Stones.some good songs here&there but after a while everything starts all sounding the same.well that's the case with Nicholson all of his movies he plays an Arrogant Man.this is one of the many reasons why i don't watch award shows they like to much sameness.there's nothing special about this film at all.

Summary: I'm sorry, but this film was not Oscar-worthy.
Review: For me, this film was one of the worst I have ever seen - totally overrated and contrived - and I am still shocked that both actors won academy awards! At first I didn't agree with Leonardo DiCaprio boycotting the awards ceremony, but after seeing this film, I did! The scene where Greg Kinnear gets beaten is disturbing and totally unnecessary - it almost had a gratuitous feel to it. Helen Hunt is truly uncharming. Jack playing Jack was probably the best thing in the film - and I'm stretching a bit here. Best film, best actor, best actress! Totally preposterous.

Summary: Do yourself a favour!
Review: Do yourself a favour and if you haven't already seen this movie, get it - watch it - and thoroughly enjoy it. It's by far one of the best movies I've ever watched. Helen Hunt is amazing, Jack Nicholson is great, and Greg Kinear is tops as well. It's worth alot more than five stars!

Summary: .
Review: The unconventional quirks of this movie make it vaguely interesting, and Greg Kinnear does a pretty good job. Helen Hunt plays her role adequately, but an Oscar was a bit much. Nicholson is, for the most part, Nicholson. The romance isn't particularly believable -- it's even rather silly -- but the characters are just engaging enough to make it mildly charming. This film undoubtedly cheated much more deserving ones out of the Oscar circle, but the Oscars are sort of annoying that way. All in all, this is not an especially disagreeable movie, but it's mostly just quirky romantic fluff. Interesting fluff, different from typical Hollywood fluff -- but fluff all the same. See it or skip it -- not too big a deal either way, as far as I'm concerned.

Summary: As Good As It Gets, No really.
Review: This is one of my favorite movies. I enjoyed it very much. The acting, screenplay, and the directing were teriffic. Jack Nicholson, Helen Hunt, and Greg Kinner are a prime example of a thing called "character development". It shows it and I, for on, loved it. I suggest that As Good As It Gets should be viewed. Buy this movie. I promise you will not regret it.

Summary: Awkward, yet amazing...
Review: Jack Nicholson continues his trend of being the best actor in Hollywood with the brilliant story by James Brooks (the "Cheers" guy) and superb performances by Helen Hunt and Greg Kinnear to aid him. At times, the characters find themselves in ultimately AWKWARD situations...this is something that we don't see much of in Hollywood anymore with the advent of characters who ALWAYS know just how to interact with each other. Nicholson is grand as an obsessive-compulsive while Kinnear has the 'homosexual neighbor' bit down to perfection. If you're looking for a comedy/drama/awkward romance, you're probably seeking a one-of-a-kind film...and this is it.

Summary: The film of the 90's
Review: If you are going to se one film from the 90's, this is it. Warmth, humor, and friendship like I've never seen before. Jack Nickolson says; "You make me want to be a better man". Well this film makes me want to be a better friend. Possibly the most brilliant film ever.

Summary: Not bad, but not terrific either.
Review: The only thing this movie had going for it was Helen Hunt. She was great. It was like she wasn't acting. She really looked like a working siongle mom. Absolutely did not like Jack Nicholson, all he did was swagger. All he ever does now is charm and swagger his way through a movie. He doesn't act anymore. The script wasn't bad, but it was nothing compared to Terms of Endearment.

Summary: Good craftsmanship. Stands up to multiple viewings
Review: It wasn't that the acting was so great. It was more that the actors fit the roles so well. I am not a huge fan of any of the main characters (well, Cuba Gooding Jr., maybe) and would not go to see a movie just because they were in it. I've never been a Helen Hunt fan, but her "too grounded in reality to deal with neurosis/nobility and grace in simplicity" character was competently protrayed. A little forced in places (I can almost pick out every retake) but that just makes the character more obvious to the less observant viewers (as if the role of waitress wasn't enough.)

Over the years I have come to appreciate the mechanics and craft of filmmaking. This movie was written, directed, acted and produced by real pros and it shows. The pacing is perfect. The wit close enough to everyday experience to lend a certain creditability. But I'd have to say it is the screenwriting that holds this good movie together.

Movies can succeed on any of a myriad different levels. Some succeed by helping us suspend reality, others by highlighting reality. "As Good As It Gets" succeeds, in part, by presenting us with images that are close enough to experience to allow ourselves to be pulled along by the story.

Not all movies are for all people. If the viewer can not connect with any of the characters or situations, then they will be disappointed or bored. The fewer the characters, the greater the risk that this will be the case. I think the producers took some risks with this movie and I'm glad they were rewarded for it.
