Summary: Destiny and fate....
Review: This was one of the best movies I have seen in a long time. Yes, it is sappy in some parts, and unlikely, but who cares! It is a sweet story, it is funny and it has wonderful shots of NY and Central Park. Americans need to see this kind of movie given the current events. GO SEE IT!!! Grab your girlfriend, boyfriend, significant other and get lost in fate, destiny, love, whatever you want to call it!

Summary: A Gentle Movie for Trying Times
Review: "Serendipity" comes along at a time when we need it the most. It is the story of love and romance in New York and takes us back to the time (can it only be four weeks ago?) when New York was the place to be.John Cusak plays Jonathan, a producer for ESPN who meets a beautiful English girl named Sara, (the lovely Kate Beckinsale) at Bloomingdales. Jonathan and Sara spend some time together and Jonathan wants her in his life. She believes in fate or "Serendipity", and puts Jonathan through a series of tests. When one of these tests doesn't work, Sara gives up, leaving Jonathan wondering what might have been. Years pass and both are about to marry others - Jonathan to a proper girl named Halley and Sara to a eccentric musician named Lars. As their respective weddings approach, Jonathan and Sara are reminded of each other and begin separate quests to see if "Serendipity" does exist. Each is aided by a friend - Sara, somewhat reluctantly by her friend Eve (Molly Shannon) and Jonathan by his friend, played by Jeremy Piven. And not to be fogotten is the abrupt and proper store clerk, played by the wonderful Eugene Levy, who is not above using Jonathan's plight to his own advantage. The paths that Jon and Sara take to find one another forms the plot of the movie. In between there are the near misses and the feelings of helplessness and near giving up. Cusak is wonderful as the love struck Jonathan as he always is in roles such as this ("High Fidelity" being an example). Beckinsale is beautiful and charming and plays her part with a combination of sweetness and sexiness which leaves no doubt as to why Jonathan would want her. There is nothing terribly surprising about the plot nor any major twists and turns. It is just a wonderful, gentle movie that warms the heart and in times such as this, is most welcome. Anyone of any age could enjoy this film. It is a great date film, or a movie to see with your spouse of 50 years.

Summary: Feel Good Romantic Comedy Just Perfect In Most Every Way
Review: Put the depressing world news aside for a bit, and relish this delightful romantic comedy. John Cusack and Kate Beckinsale shine as Jonathan and Sara, two people brought together while fighting over the last pair of black cashmere gloves at Bloomingdale's a few days before Christmas. This leads to a falling-in-love conversation at a coffee shop, ice skating amidst the Christmas decorations of New York, and finally a parting where she won't reveal her name because she believes in fate. Now, if you can accept that a girl can fall totally in love and decide not to share her name and number but choose to leave it all up to fate to bring them back together, you will love this movie. And I did! A name on a five-dollar bill and another name in a book called "Love in the Time of Cholera" are pivotal to the plot as Jonathan and his best friend race to find one, while Sara and her best friend stumble onto the other. But this is all several years later when both are about to marry other people. Will the two would-be lovers find each other in time? Will there be a happy-ever-after ending? Suffice it to say, you will see the glove counter at Bloomingdale's one more time. John Cusack is adorable as always in this ultimate chick flick, and Kate Beckinsale excels as the slightly off-beat girl he can't forget. But it is Jeremy Piven as his best friend and Eugene Levy as the Bloomingdale's clerk who have some scene-stealing moments. Treat yourself to this totally romantic escape into a world where all is well and your fondest dreams can come true.

Summary: Good sappy predictable romance
Review: I'm generally a sucker for romance movies. This one had some terrific acting in it, but it was incredibly predictable. Boy meets girl, boy loses girl, they meet someone else, that falls apart, boy meets girl, boy marries girl. No surprises here. But if you're looking for a cheesy date movie that you don't have to concentrate hard on to follow the story, this is your movie.

Review: Serendipity will be admired by many kinds of people. That's a funny and main characters are so cute. The story is old-fashioned, but this movie reminded me of the importance of love. This movie encouraged me a lot. John Cusack seems to be a nice actor. His action is good and funny. Is there anyone who believes destiny? The movie teach us that believing is important. And meeting by accident may be important for each other.

Review: Once in a while a movie comes along that is so personal and so moving that it reminds us why we fall in love and keeps us believing that fairy tales really do come true. That movie is "Serendipity". John Cusack and Kate Beckinsale are fantastically romantic, funny and so charming that you can't help but sit up on the edge of your seat quietly rooting for them. Their smiles, glances, laughter and tears are so personal that you can't help but share their experiences. I found myself so caught up in the suspense that I just couldn't sit still. This movie was a winner from the opening scene all the way to the end -- and will definitey stay with me long after seeing it. The two would-be lovers have a chance meeting in New York City and coincidence after coincidence leads them to spend the most incredible day of their lives together. Years later, seperated by time and distance, they still cannot shake the memory of one another. Despite both of them being engaged, they still find themselves remembering that one special day and the one true love that got away. Fate deals them a new set of "signs" that have them racing against all odds to find their way back to one another against the clock of Cusack's wedding. Are they meant to be together? Does fate really lead us back to the ones we were meant to be with? "Serendipity" reminds us of all the things we already know; those fairy tale dreams that we carry within us. Buy this movie as soon as you get the chance! If you never own another romantic movie, this is the one you'll want to have because it is everything we want love to be.

Summary: Fatum at its highest level of influence
Review: Amidst the artificial Hollywood cheesy fake romance movies rises the magical and astonishingly genuine Serendipity, with a not less shining cast of wonderful actors. Hard task must it have been to attempt to reach a level of magic similar to the one that was born on top of the Empire State Building, when Sam and Annie crossed their paths in Sleepless in Seattle. To my bedazzlement, they did quite reach this level in Serendipity, only in the beginning of the movie instead of the end. As Cusack gently kisses Cassiope on the arm of his new-found British goddess under the New York twilight, even the most skeptical heartless monster could not avoid noticing the magic created by the sweet duo. As the minutes go by and the two turtledoves drift apart, we feel both characters' pain to be kept away from their real destiny for such a long time, and we feel their obvious uncomfort to marry people they do not love entirely, and with who a honeymoon in Spain could not recreate the magic trapped into a pair of black cashmire gloves. After many years, both being overwhelmed by the long and disappointing quest of emotions, they pull an ultimate attempt to find each other. Of course, the conclusion is anything but unpredictable. However, fate's miraculous work in Serendipity resides in the way the characters lead towards different directions and ultimately reunite in the same path, and the fascinating grid of events that subtilely leans to this reuniting. I would very strongly recommend those who believe love at first sight does not exist, or those who assume one single person wholly matches them is a myth, to watch this movie with an open mind and reconsider these issues. Evidently, coincidences such as the ones shown in this movie do happen extremely seldom in one's life; but they do. Serendipity strengthened my belief in fate, and I certainly hope it will increase everyone else's.

Review: Sara Thomas (Kate Beckinsale) has the attributes to make any male heart quiver. The storyline is nothing out of the ordinary, but its presentation is fresh and beautiful. If you're a fan of the romantic comedy genre, this ranks up there with "While You Were Sleeping".

Review: I would agree with most of the reviews written so far -- this is the perfect time to see this movie, when we have been through such a trying last few weeks. I think it's perfect that it's set in New York. John Cusack is terribly appealing and Kate Beckinsale has a smile that's irresistible. This is one of those feel-good movies that had me leaving the theater feeling all warm and fuzzy inside. It doesn't matter that it's realistic or improbable, it restores your faith in romance and humanity. I do think there's a message too -- that sometimes we need to just let life unfold and lead us down a path of destiny rather than trying to manipulate things to work out the way we think they should. All in all, a really delightful movie that comes at a time when it's needed by so many of us.
