Summary: Bad story, or writing, or editing... last 1/3 OK
Review: The first two thirds of this movie were horrible. RW's attire is horrible for an alleged fashion expert. She is NOT a likeable character in this film. You don't get a bond between her & Jake at all, that one kid scene was not enough at all. It just doesn't work. The end was cute, but again not fulfilling. The star who played Jake and Jean Smart were the best characters in the film, and the only ones with integrity.

Summary: Sweet... Cute...
Review: Though the ending is predictable... I still believe this is a really sweet movie...
All characters in the movie are funny wihtout any intention of being too silly like in a slapstick kinda movie...
They are down to earth kinda people in an everyday life... not a touchy-feelin'-full of tears-love birds-soap opera-cinderella kinda movie...
I like Josh Lucas a lot... =P ... he is way too cool !!!
(I saw the deleted versions from the DVD... and I definitely agree with the editor's & director's choices to cut some scenes... making the movie as sweet as it is now...)

Summary: If you've seen the previews, you've seen the movie
Review: Unfortunately, by watching the previews you know exactly what will happen in the movie. Unfortunately, nothing in the movie will lead you to believe otherwise.
Reese successfully gives mixed messages and strings along the two men in her life who want to marry her (or stay married to her) despite every stunt she pulls and every lousy thing she says and does.
She insults her hick town, insults the people in it, badly hurts the old friend who was nicest to her, and tries her best to keep both guys as long as possible. She desperately wants her hillbilly hubby to sign the divorce papers...until he threatens to do it. She's so in love with her fiancee...yet tries to call her ex during wedding preparation.
And the ex is trying to better himself to become worthy of Mrs. Carmichael...yet he never makes a play for her, and lets her believe he's still nothing more than a beer drinking, cow tipping redneck. No doubt he read the golden rule when it comes to women: You'll appear more intriguing if you don't look so interested. She's wishier-washier than a fence riding politician, but she'll come out smelling like roses.

The best parts of the movie involved Patrick Dempsey and Candice Bergen. I was rooting for them the entire time. Unfortunately, they weren't in the movie enough. This movie could've been much better had it strayed from the conventional, and made them more of the focal point, rather than showing its audience every redneck stereotype in existence. We've already seen it.

3 stars for giving your brain a rest and for having "sister" of Rose Red in it. Take away 1 star for the movie being as predictible as possible and the ending, which I don't want to give away. Very tacky ending.

Summary: So romantic!
Review: She would have made the right choice with either man. :) This was a fun movie, I cried and laughed for most of it.

Summary: I'm still confused by this movie ....
Review: Don't misunderstand me, I love a good, mindless romantic comedy as much as the next gal. I liked Joe vs. the Volcano, for goodness sake. I saw this movie in the theater - was very excited about it. I am still trying to figure parts of it out.
Specifically, its problems lie in poor character development, poor editing and a script so formulaic, you know what is going to happen for the ENTIRE movie 15 minutes in.
Can anyone tell me, really, what happened to break up the first marriage? How do a governor and her - wait a minute, exactly what did he do? - son have private jets and the ability to have Tiffanys open just for them? Have you ever seen someone react so calmly to being left at the altar? So many things don't make sense in the movie it makes my head spin. The biggest question - from a girl who grew up in the south - how does a true southern gal make her southern accent sound fake???
I didn't feel that there was anything in the relationships, no real feelings, no connection. Nothing to have me interested in what actually happened to these people. (Poor editing, poor character development are to blame). Personally, I think she should have wound up with neither. To reiterate the thought of another reviewer, you don't like her very much at the end of the movie.
In a nutshell - yes, it looks good - but looks are deceiving. Don't waste your time. This movie is a technical disaster.

Summary: Can't go wrong with Reese
Review: OK, so maybe it isn't the most original plot of all time. So what. Reese Witherspoon is absolutely the coolest human being on the planet, and soooooooo cute. And did I mention talented? Why do dramatic actresses get all the awards? Who said making a good comedy is easy? I thoroughly enjoyed watching this movie and I could watch it again and again. And there were some poignant moments, like when Melanie is in the bar thumbing her nose at the locals and she comes to herself and sees her own real self. She decides to make amends to the people she has offended. Too bad more people in real life don't reach this point in their life and take corrective action to make it up to people. The world would be a better place. Later she comes to herself in the other matter, the one involving her first love. I knew it would happen, just didn't know how. This is a good romantic comedy with my favorite actress making it work. I liked the plot.

Summary: Predictable but fun
Review: Melanie Carmichal has put her Alabama past behind her and has become a leading New York fashion designer. Her boyfriend is the son of the mayor and she's flying high until he asks her to marry him. One problem--she's already married to a boy back home. She goes back to her hometown to make her divorce final, but her husband resists signing the divorce papers. She comes across all of her old friends who are a bit suspicious of her now and she doesn't know which world she belongs in. There are some serious stretches of the imagination in the plot line, but
the actors are good-looking and engaging, so who cares? This is a fun, fluffy movie.

Summary: soupy drek
Review: Uuuuuugh. This movie is so formulaic, so cliched and so predictable it's offensive. Both cultures (New York and Alabama) are portrayed by stereotypes. My wife rented this thing. Mid way through, I got up, read the paper, drank a beer and came back without having missed a step. I estimate I missed a good 45 minutes of the movie, but apparently, I didn't miss much. If anyone is interested, I'm organizing a hunger strike to end the production of ro-coms....
