Summary: Pleasantly Surprised
Review: Renée Zellweger plays a thirty-something single woman who is involved with the wrong man while she keeps bumping into the right man.

The film has some very funny moments that we've all been through, including having to wear a totally inappropriate dress, resembling something your great aunt may have either worn or made from the slip-covers for her couch, picked out by your mother.

I saw this film only because there was nothing else to watch. I was very pleasantly surprised at what a sleeper this was.

If you're looking for something different, try this film. You may find yourself laughing out loud - rare enough in these times of films being held out as comedies but are nothing more than a cover-up for toilet humor.

Summary: One of Hilarious Movies Out There
Review: When I bought this movie, I didn't expect much. I just wanted to have a VHR which I could replay to kill time from time to time. But it turned out to be one of my favorite titles. If you liked Notting Hill, chances are you will love Bridget Jones's Diary too.

Summary: Not as bad as the book....
Review: ...even though my opinion of the book was so low that this could mean almost anything.

If my opinion of the book was so low, why did I bother to watch the movie? Probably because it was towards the end of a 10 hour transatlantic flight, and I didn't have anything better to do... And I must admit I was pleasantly surprised: the movie - Bridget (and all the other characters) were much more human like than the book characters. I think this is the first time I'd rather see the movie than read the book...

I don't think I'll buy the DVD, but people who like this genre might really enjoy it, because it's not a bad movie for its kind.

Summary: Charmed, I'm sure!
Review: Renee Zellweger is totally charming as the smart, funny, slightly messed up thirtysomething "singleton". The story opens with Bridget attending her mother's New Years' "Turkey Curry Party" where she meets, stick in the mud, Mark Darcy who is wearing a perfectly awful sweater with a reindeer on the front. Unfortunately, Bridget's mother has provided her with a nice outfit resembling a bad carpet and the two make a not so great impression on one another. They have met before when Bridget pranced through Mark's wading pool in the nude at age four, as her mother points out.
Bridget makes new years' resolutions to lose weight, cut back on the booze and ciggies and find a good man. Her diary records, weight, cigarette and alcohol units as well as some success shagging her boss, (Hugh Grant as a perfectly loveable scoundrel).
Through the year, Bridget runs into Mark several times and we get to see more what a sweetheart this guy really is. Fortunately, by the end of the movie, Bridget also becomes aware of this fact and all ends well.
That's it in a nutshell, but the real fun is watching it happen. The acting is great, the humor is clever and heartwarming. Absolutely charming!

Summary: Funny!
Review: This is a fun movie. I love the plot and how it is done. I love to see Hugh Grant playing a bad character. I was so tired of his "weddings and a funeral" image in every movie he made. It was a real change! I love Renee she is great and is not uncomfortable of not being attractive in the movie which scares most of the actresses. I wish her other guy was more emotional though... : )

Summary: A Classic......already one of my all time favorites........
Review: Well, this movie show all of us over 30's and single that their may be hope for us......

I love this movie.....I think that this captures what it's like to be single and in your 30's in the early 21st century......and sometimes it's not pretty......

Renee Zellweger is perfect as Bridget. From the opening sequence of her singing along with "Sad FM", you'll pulled into this movie.....and it has a happy ending.....hope for us yet!

Colin Firth is quite brilliant as well......as is Hugh Grant and the rest of the cast!

Summary: Really wanted to like this film, but...
Review: I saw this at the Premier here in London. I enjoyed the book, and was looking forward to the film, with Renee and Hugh playing the leads. The book was honest, direct and painted a picture of a young woman, not feeling so young anymore, seeking something elusive. A story most of us can relate to in some way.

The film itself just fell a bit flat. I could never really accept the characters and situations or suspend my disbelief. Not to say it didn't have its moments, but the key relationships on which the story hinged were "forced", and the lack of chemistry was apparent.

Not a bad couple hours, and had I not read the book, or had such high hopes then perhaps I would have enjoyed it more. So, I recommend, kind of, in a hesitant way. I rented the DVD and watched it again, just to see if perhaps I was being too critical....nope. Rent it, don't buy it.

Summary: Bridget Jones's Diary
Review: Pride and Prejudice is one of my favorite classics. I thought this movie did a very good modernization of the book. It was wonderfully funny and romantic. I loved the ending. I could watch it again and again.

Summary: I Loved It but Hubby Thought It Was Stupid
Review: If you are a man and reading this, I warn you that you may have the same reaction as hubby did to this film. It is an out and out romance film with the funny, likable Bridget Jones alternating between two leading men as her romatic interest, Hugh Grant and Colin Firth. Grant plays a charming rat and is her boss. It is easy to see why she's smitten with him though as he can be absolutely adorable when cranking on the charm. Colin Firth plays the good but more wooden guy, Mark Darcy, a barrister, who is essentially a modern day version of Fitzwilliam Darcy from "Pride & Prejudice." I have not talked to any woman who did not adore this film. Bridget's parents also turn in an excellent subplot of marital discord, with Jim Broadbent as her father, showing once again that as an actor he has few equals. Hubby did like the little home movie which played over the end credits, which shows the child versions of Bridget and Mark at a party together, already interested in one another, set to the wonderful Rodgers & Hart tune, "Have You Met Miss Jones?" I really loved this part too but for me it was merely more frosting on an already perfect cake. I saw this in the theater and bought it on DVD immediately and loved it both times.
