Summary: Hilarious
Review: I bought this movie with some trepidation as I was afraid of the chick flick label that was slapped on it by its title. While there are some of those elements in this movie you will no doubt enjoy it enough to look past those aspects. Unlike your average boy meets girl and gets back together plot, this adds some flavor. Also add some huge laughs that will not disappoint.

If you like Renee Zellweger and are looking for a chick flick that forgets its chick flick roots, and decides to just be great entertainment....this is a movie for you.

Summary: I guess I'm the only one who doesn't love this movie.
Review: I'm sorry. I really am. I wanted to love this movie. Couldn't wait to see it. I love Colin Firth, and thought the rest of the cast was great. I understand that they couldn't fit everything in the book into two hours (or less) on the screen. I even liked that they changed the plot a little so that I didn't know about everything that was going to happen. But...one of the things I loved about Bridget Jone's Diary (the novel) was her friends, especially Tom. In the movie, they were so watered down! And I hated that Bridget was so...inept, so wishy~washy. I also hated that they made her look so sloppy. Just because she was a little overweight (actually, she looked pretty normal to me) didn't mean that all her clothes had to ride up on her or that she didn't know how to brush her hair. I could go on, but it would get boring. It was a cute movie, but I just think more justice could have been done to this wonderfully funny book.

Summary: Bloody Fabulous!
Review: Every single woman should see this movie! It is such an accurate depiction of single life that you will find yourself saying "Oh my God! That happened to me!" The entire cast is delightful! Hugh Grant plays a wonderful jerk, Renee is charming, and Colin Firth is absolutely brilliant as the reserved Mark Darcy. You will laugh out loud many times throughout this film. The fight scene between the two guys is absolutely hilarious, and Firth in his "reigndeer jumper" is enough to make you fall out of your chair. Bridget is a character who is easy to love. You feel sorry for her, embarrassed for her, and happy for her when she finally figures out who Mr. Right is. Her parents and friends are a madcap passle of eccentrics who are so entertaining in their supporting roles, you wish you got to see more of them. Be sure to catch the books too! They are just as wonderful!

Summary: modern screwball comedy romance
Review: If it weren't for the sexual situations and swearing this film would be as wholesome as any of the Hollywoodland Cary Grant or Katherine Hepburn screwball comedies from the 1930's. Definately a modern film, and so it feels a little bit hip, well in a London kind of way. But a love story as old as "Dangerous Liasons" at least.

Summary: modern screwball comedy romance
Review: If it weren't for the swearing this film would be almost as wholesome as any of the Hollywoodland Cary Grant or Katherine Hepburn screwball comedies from the 1930's. A modern film it feels a little bit hip, well, in a London kind of way.

The leading character is the alter-ego of writer Helen Fielding, a very sharp Scorpio. It took another writer Richard Curtis to work his "Four Weddings and a Funeral" and "Notting Hill" charm on this leading female character. And they choose an American actress to soften her up a bit more. The real Bridget Jones is much more pithy and smart to be sure, but movie magic has diluted her into a very approachable, sometimes ungainly Everywoman.

I mean all of this as praise. I've watched this movie again and again, and although I know almost every line by heart I still crave to see it more. It is just so disarming -- for the few minutes that I live vicariously in Bridget's glamorous life, I relax and accept myself "just the way I am". Then walk around the next day proud of myself for doing nothing more remarkable than getting out of bed.

The extra 20 - 25 odd pounds that actress Renee Zellweger so famously gained for this role is one the reasons the movie is so successful. She looks like a normal size woman who can sometimes look shockingly pudgy (just like myself, oh!) or shockingly beautiful (how reassuring, what a relief!).

Hugh Grant plays her perfect foil. He doesn't take himself too seriously and when he sees the humor in Bridget's follies, we relax from judging her also.

Do I have any dissappointments with this movie? Maybe only that some people may be stymied by the language and mature content of the film -- sort of embarrassing to watch it with my parents or with more judgemental or conservative people. I heartily recommend it as a real laugh which is enjoyed by women and surprisingly even more by men. Enjoy.

Summary: actually less than one star..........
Review: Absolutely terrible movie... Totally american humor set in a british scene. Very strange.. Completely unrealistic portrayals of british life and i must say that after enjoying Renee Zellweger movies previously, this movie has tarnished Renee for me and you won't find me watching any of her movies any time soon.

Summary: A bloody good show!
Review: I will not be pithy. I will not over analyze this movie. I will simply say this is one of the funniest movies I have ever seen. The writing is clever and brisk. The characters, with their foibles and mini-triumphs, are engaging. As a woman "of that certain age," Bridget Jones is just hilarious as she struggles to further her career and find one decent relationship. There are so many scenes that are pathetic and funny. Most women past "that certain age" will totally get this movie - and maybe even identify a bit.

Great music. Funny dialogue. Super performances. A must see.
There, I was neither pithy nor over-analytical.

Summary: The Most Perfect Movie Ever Made
Review: This is the most perfect, flawless movie ever made! Everything about it is perfect -- the casting, the timing, the flow, the friends, the feelings, the family, the parties, the directing, the facial expressions, the music, the humor, the dialogue -- just EVERYTHING!!!! I am in love with the "English" language now and am contemplating a move across the pond. The first time I rented BJD, I had to watch it six more times because I couldn't believe how perfect it was! I don't think you could ever top its magnificence and I believe it has been overlooked by all the other awards that it did not receive. I highly recommend that everyone watch it. Kudos to all involved in its making!
