Summary: Audrey is no Ugly Duckling
Review: Sabrina is the cute story of a chauffer's daughter who witnesses the fun and fireworks of high society life from the shadows of her father's garage, where he is in charge of the Laraby's automobiles. In this charming tale, Sabrina played by Audrey Hepburn, is supposed to be somewhat of an akward ugly duckling, but there is nothing ugly or akward about Audrey. She does an outstanding job playing a confused, deprived young girl until she is sent off to Paris to get over her crush on the younger of the Laraby brother's, David. When she comes back as a distinguished woman-sparks fly in a bizarre love triange that is nothing short of amusing and spectacular. This is a classic romantic comedy that has withstood the test of time.

Summary: Great film and Snoopy is in it too!
Review: This may sound weird but in some of the scenes where Bogart has on a tuxedo who looks like Snoopy of Charlie Brown fame. All short and big headed with puppy dog eyes. Well let's get to the film. The plot of Sabrinia is simple; plain jane Hepburn wants rich play boy Holden but gets side tracked by the drab dull brother Bogart, who interferes when she returns from Paris as a new woman. Hepburn's love for Holden is then underscored by Holden's father and brother wanting him to marry another to ensure a large business deal. The dialogue is good if not great after all a Wilder film usually has alot more disdain than this. But the acting and the ease upon which the actors handle the materials upon which they are given are its saving points and it also amounts to perfect light romantic comedy. As usual Holden is amazing in the little bit of scenes he has but Bogart owns this movie and when you look at him you look directly into his eyes and you never guess why Hepburn chose the brooding brother with a soul over the window dressing version of a man played by Holden.

Review: Sabrina is total magic! It has the best of everything, great cast, great script, great direction, great costumes (by Givenchy) and great music too! Audrey Hepburn could not be more captivating here, every move, every gesture, every expression she made is imbued with incredible charm and grace! Comedies are not what Humphrey Bogart did best, but I think he utilized his solemn image and stiff personality very well in this film. It is just like Greta Garbo's serious and formal Bolshevik officer in Ninotchka. The attributes of the role can only be played convincingly by the actors who possess the similar qualities. Also I would like to address that the score of this film (by Frederick Hollander who also co-wrote Falling In Love Again) is hauntingly beautiful. I kept humming the tunes after I saw the film. It is such a big shame that the soundtrack of this film is not available! For some sentimental viewers the plots of this film may sound inhuman, but I believe that those are what should not be taken too seriously. The only fact that matters is that it is a supreme, classic, highly entertaining romantic comedy that brings back memories of those great irreplaceable talents.

Summary: Improved with age?
Review: I first saw this version of Sabrina several years ago, and thought it was just fine as a product of its time. Then more recently I saw the Ormond-Ford version and thought it would be a good idea to revisit the original.What astonished me was how little emotional sense the original movie makes. People behave in ways that are unfathomable to us now, decades later. I suppose our infatuation with "a simpler time" makes us able to overlook little things like Linus' premeditated physical attack of his brother (how deep do you suppose a broken champagne glass will penetrate into someone's bum?), David's "lovable" addiction to women, and Sabrina's own somewhat neurotic behavior. (The newer version at least attempted to deal with these problems and nearly succeeded in giving us people we can relate to, especially Sabrina, who is shown finding herself and then working from that strength.) It's quirky in that Billy Wilder way, but definitely lives in another time. I categorize this one with all the others where actors were consciously acting, and somehow the movie just would have seemed better in black and white.

Review: Audrey Hepburn won the Best Actress Oscar (1953 for Roman Holiday) the year before. She was Hollywoods newest shining star. Sabrina was specifically for Audrey. Only her second motion picture proved her 5 star box office stardom. This remastered DVD is from Paramounts "The Audrey Hepburn Collection". If you love the old Hollywood and the "Big Stars" you'll love Sabrina. Audrey Hepburn (Sabrina)(Oscar winner), William Holden (David Larrabee)(Oscar winner - Stalag 17) & Humphrey Bogart (Linus Larrabee) (Oscar winner - African Queen) were perfectly cast for this timeless romantic comedy classic. In summary: The fun begins with a chauffers young daughter (Sabrina) who is in love with employer (the Larrabee family) playboy son millionaire David (Holden) who only sees her as a child. She is sent off to Paris to a cooking & fininshing school. Sabrina meets the European rich & famous who refine and add sophistication to the maturing young woman. Upon her return home as a changed mature socialite is swooned by David unknowning it is this young daughter of a servant, Sabrina. Once this is disclosed the real romance begins. Linus (Bogart) the older brother who runs the family business dynasty has pre-arranged a business merger marriage for David. David now loves Sabrina. Linus tries to swoon Sabrina away from David who is now jeopardizing the business merger. Sabrina is still in love with David finds Linus' advances distracting, then charming & eventually a love triangle begins. The rest is history. Especially the happy ending which was the old Hollywood recipe to success. A great movie, a great performing cast and a delightful Sabrina. Included is a "Sabrina" documentary which adds frosting to the already tasty cake.

Summary: If you like this movie buy the DVD
Review: I love most of Audrey Hepburns films. I don't need to go into the details about this film as most other postings below have done that. Needless to say it is one of the finest romance films, and if you enjoyed it, buy the DVD. In addition to the movie the DVD has a story and clips on the making of the movie which is very interesting. There is also an additional bonus of a photo gallery with about a dozen pictures or so. Well worth the price considering many DVD's are pricier and contain nothing more than just the movie.

Review: It might have aged a little, but AUDREY HEPBURN was always charming as a romantic heroine and WILLIAM HOLDEN and BOGIE are such an unusual pair of brothers that the remake could not improve on the original.JOHN WILLIAMS has one of his many supporting roles as the chauffeur.BILLY WILDER was one of the few directors who could alternate comedy and drama, and he had the knack to choose his actors well.As years go buy,we realize how AUDREY came to personalize a type of sophisticated woman that will culminate in BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY.It might be nostalgia now, but it sures makes you feel good.Thanks AUDREY, we really loved you.

Review: Audrey Hepburn, William Holden, and Humphrey Bogart are terrific in this movie. I heard that Bogie and Hepburn didn't get along well, but it sure doesn't show in thier acting! In this little girl-turned to a woman movie, Audrey Hepburn shines as Sabrina, the cheuffers daughter. She's been madly in lvoe with David Larabee (Holden), and when she returns from two year after Paris, David finally realizes what he's been missing all this time. The only thing is that the big brother Linus (Bogart) is afraid that this relationship will destroy the big bucks he's had in the plan for David's marriage to another woman. Only later does Linus and David fall in love with the charming and beautiful Sabrina. The real question in this movie is, who will get the girl? Charming, witty, and extrememly romantic, I highly suggest this movie.

Review: In 1953, Audrey Hepburn won the 'Best Actress Oscar' for her work in "Roman Holiday" while still an amatuer actress. Paramount Pictures noticing her suberb acting quickly purchased the script "Sabrina" for the young star. And it's a good thing they did, the film was ranked with such classic romantic comedies as "Singin' in the Rain," & "Holiday Inn." The Cinderella type story focusses on Sabrina, a chauffer's daughter mad in love with her father's employer, David Larrabee. David (William Holden) the playboy of the family, has recently been divorced 3 times & chases again & again after lovely young wemon. When breaking Sabrina's heart one night, Sabrina decides to commit suicide by letting the carbon monixide spread in the closed garage. Luckily David's older business minded brother, Linus (Humphrey Bogart) comes for a car just before the gas takes its toll. Being sent to Paris the next morning for cooking school, Sabrina grows up to become a bueatiful, sophisticated women & when she returns 4 years later she causes some hilarious results when the newly engaged David, & Linus fall for her. The movie was followed by a poor remake made in 1995 starring Harrison Ford as Linus Larrabee & Julia Ormond as Sabrina.
