Rating: Summary: The "It's a Wondeful Life" of St. Patrick's Day. Review: The greatest fight scene in the history of motion pictures. John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara were magnificent.
Rating: Summary: One of the best movies of all time. Review: Boo and hiss if you like, but I am not a big John Wayne fan, however... I LOVE THIS MOVIE. This has been one of my favorites ever since I was about 13 years old. 25 years later, it still holds it's charm and brilliance. I don't wear the green on St. Patrick's day, but I always watch this film. As a matter of fact, I just finished watching it.
Rating: Summary: A movie which upholds its *contract* with the viewer Review: The Quiet Man is more than just a story retold on film; it is a masterpiece. John Wayne is the way all American men should be - strong yet sensitive - and Maureen O'Hara is the way all American women should be - vulnerable yet tough - and The Quiet Man is the way all movies should be - respectful of the *contract* it has with the viewers. One previous review said that The Quiet Man is the greatest movie ever by Hollywood. They may be right. It has honor and dignity while oozing with humor. And it is not humor which belittles or demeans anyone. The Quiet Man is a wonderful story about imperfect human beings who try to have harmonious relationships. When the challenge becomes too much they seek out spiritual guidance in trying for resolution. In its own intimable way, the fight has you thinking to yourself, "well this is the way God would want them to resolve it." My children, all girls and ages 7, 5, 3, and 1, each love John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara in The Quiet Man. We're Lutheran but we've told our Catholic friends that after The Sound of Music, this is the Catholics finest moment in movies! And we all drink to that!
Rating: Summary: to fight or not to fight?? Review: this is my all time favorite John Wayne film. this is the romance with the rough stuff. the brawling over the beauty. the stuff that real men are made of. always fight for the woman that you love!!
Rating: Summary: John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara, need I say more? Review: Of course not but I'm going to anyway. What an absolute perfect movie!!! You can watch it over and over and never get tired of it. Maureen and John are perfect. I wouldn't change a thing! It is truly the Ireland of our dreams. The lush green make you believe in the 40 shades of green. You expect the leprachauns to pop out of every tree. Sean never gave up on Mary Kate and all I can say is thank god he didn't!
Rating: Summary: The Best All-Around Movie Ever Made!!!!! Review: The Quiet Man is the finest movie that ever came out of Hollywood, or any place else. The acting, directing, scenery, and music are superb. What a combination: John Wayne, Maureen O'Hara, Ward Bond, Victor McLaughlin, Barry Fitzgerald, etc., and director John Ford! See it once . . . see it a hundred times. It never gets old.
Rating: Summary: Not your average John Wayne Movie Review: This movie is the favourite in my family's video library - Bar none! Even my Wife loves it and she has no love for The Duke.An Irish Born (ex) Boxer returns to his birthplace after many years and buys the house in which he was born. Soon he falls in love with Mary Kate Danahur (Maureen O'Hare) and has to be taught the ways of Irish courtship and matchmaking. The looong fight scene near the end of the movie is one of the best done and most thoughtfully produced of any of the classics OR contemporaries (that don't star Jackie Chan!)! I can't dote enough on this movie. You simply can't go wrong!
Rating: Summary: Saint Patrick's Day Pleaser!! Review: This is the movie that makes you wish you were Irish (I'm Not!!). Truly a five star effort by Ford and Wayne. O'Hara and Wayne define the phrase "screen chemistry". Scene after memorable scene, you will enjoy this movie like few others.
Rating: Summary: Homeric, truely homeric Review: Filled with beautiful Irish stereotypes, but the Ireland of our dreams. Casting is excellent right down to Berry Fitzgerald. Classic movie for any collection.
Rating: Summary: Best John Wayne film ever! Review: The entire cast is superb! Greatest fight scene ever, great horse race, fantastic scenery, marvelous one-liners, romance. Sterotyping of the Irish, but in a kind way. The Ireland that never really was but the way all would like it to have been. It gets better with every viewing.
