Summary: Romance, pure and simple...
Review: Jessie and Celine only have one night together, but they cram two weeks worth of conversation and romance into that night. Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy are great as the young lovers torn between responsibility and fate. The two talk the night away as they discover Vienna and each other. I had a similar experience with a French girl on holidays. We saw each other EVERY day she was in town, and her last three days here were spent living at my place. Sending her home was VERY emotional and came out of left field for me. Some people just "click" and I didn't believe it until it slapped me in the face. My point is that these things really do happen. I still talk to her all the time and she may move here soon. My one gripe is that Jessie and Celine would have exchanged a lot of contact information to see each other again someday. Oh well...Great movie with a great script! Own this one if you've ever loved so bad it hurts.

Summary: It's all about sharing
Review: Err ... what else can I say? Most of the reviewers gave this movie a perfect 5 and I absolutely share the opinion. I'm equally struck by this believable romance movie, stunning & engaging couple, natural acting, poignant snapshots, nostalgic classical music, even the song by Kath Bloom is perfect. Two very different people. Celine from a privileged background, Jesse from a lower working class. Celine is rather open and tells more of herself; Jesse is more secretive. Celine often felt like she's way older than her age whilst Jesse felt like he's a little boy, trying to be a man. Celine takes people as they are; Jesse is more cynical. In fact Celine said, "If there is any kind of God, it won't be either one of us, not you or me but a few small spaces in between. If there is some kind of magic in this world, it must be a near attempt to understand each other, sharing something." And that was what they had. Get it? P.S. Best watched alone at the wee hours of the morning. I once tried sharing this movie with a friend; she was talking too much and I had to terminate the movie after 15 mins. Sort of kills it, you know.

Summary: The rules of romantic comedy, followed here
Review: I have these two rules, regarding romantic comedies and what I need to enjoy them. First, I have to fall in love with the girl. Second, I can't envy the boy who gets to have that girl fall in love with him. I fell in love with Julie Delpy. Her Celine was doe-eyed and precious, moving effortlessly through the streets of Vienna like a water nymph. And she was whip-smart to boot. She was demure, shy, and hopelessly romantic. And then in moments, shockingly blasphemous (her exclamation under the stars is the most apt use of the f-word I can think of). And Ethan Hawke is deserving of her affection. Even though we've seen him play this kind of character before (unwashed, verbose, faux-beatnik), his Jesse is not the least bit annoying. He is her equal in intellect, innocence, and world-weariness (a neat trick having all three in one package, no?). These two have a wonderful time in this movie. From the first, electrically charged moments when they meet on the train, to their long walk-and-talks through the Viennese streets, to their inevitable parting, every moment was entertaining, alive, and true. My favourite scene, sitting in a coffee-shop booth, had them play-acting the phone calls each would make to their best friends, telling the story of the person they met on the train. It says much with very little, and for me is the moment that truly seals their relationship, because it manages to mix 1990's-style self-awareness with 1950's-style unabashed romanticism. There really is no story here. They meet, they talk (great dialogue, by the way; feels improvised, but in a good way). What gives the drama weight is that they (and the audience) know that they're obviously perfect for each other, yet will only have one night together. It's a great setup that's executed perfectly. Some would say the ending is kind of hokey, but really, what would you do in the same situation?

Summary: Romantic Movie of the Century
Review: I first watched Before Sunrise a few weeks before I left Germany. For the first time I realized that I would be leaving part of my heart in Europe. This movie is a love story that is true to itself. Love is getting to know the other person. This movie allows the watchers to see the process of falling in love. All the cliches that lesser films use are gone. What remains is a series of extremely frank conversations that illustrate the process of love. This is a movie I watch that combines my own memories of Germany (both joyous and sad) and the films. This is a movie not to be missed.

Summary: One of the key youth movies of the 1990's.
Review: There is something quite haunting for me about this rather unassuming film. I remember the first time I saw it, I was 16 and away from home.During that time I had a somewhat unjustifably apathetic view on life and this film was a minor catalyst in turning that viewpoint around. It gave me the impression that life and happiness was a state worth trying to find. I still believe that. I havn't seen this film since then and don't plan on doing so, it marks a point in my life that I don't think i'll ever be able to revisit therefore I'd like to think of this film as a memory of something thats not around anymore, it doesn't exist on videtape but rather in my memories and impressions.

Summary: Perfect. Absolutely Brilliant.
Review: I was flipping through the channels late one night a couple of years ago and came across this movie. I had never heard of it before then. About 90 minutes later, I knew I had just seen the greatest romantic movie ever made. It captures what it feels like to be with someone and the two of you think that you're the only two people on the planet. But also, what it feels like to know that you have to be away from them. The thing that stands out for me is the ending: both knowing that they love each other but they go their separate ways, not knowing if they'll ever see each other again; and then showing all the different places that the couple visited in their 14-hour "affair", now empty as the sun begins to rise. I've only seen this movie once, but the ending still leaves a lump in my throat when I think about it. After you watch this movie, you think to yourself, "If I ever had the chance to live the perfect romantic night, it would be like this." One other thing: Others will say this is a great "date" movie, but for the greatest emotional effect, watch this movie by yourself. You'll know what I mean right after it ends.

Review: This film, like clowns, makes me both happy and afraid of humanity. I fear this movie like an aspiring Worlds Smallest Midgit who finds his twin in a vacent mall parking lot and has to come to grips with the fact that he is not the only one who is him. I am "Jesse", and his story and everthing is me. I love this movie as I love myself and Parisian women. I write this so that you may read it and want to watch that movie at 4 o'clock in the morning so that Before Sunrise you shall know me.

Summary: Simply the most romantic movie of our time....
Review: Like a lot of reviews I've already read here, I happened upon this movie by chance. I'd seen the trailer in the movie theater before and thought that it looked like it might be interesting but promptly forgot about it. When I finally rented it I watched it three times in a row the first night. I couldn't believe the power this movie had over me in the most subtle ways. I have so many favorite scenes that they change every time someone asks me what my favorite scenes are. *smile* The scene in the music store listening booth couldn't have been more natural for these two, and the song had the same initial effect on me that it had on Jesse (kinda sounded corny at first, but ended up being quite engaging)...their poet by the river...and my unchanging favorite, where the movie ends by going back to each place they visited. Anyone who really liked the ending should consider watching a film called "Fandango", which is not only very funny but has the *other* most beautiful ending I've ever seen. This movie is my Number One Favorite Movie Ever (that's my own title).

Summary: One of the most beautiful movies ever made
Review: The only reason I went to see this movie in the theatre was because I was already a fan of Richard Linklaters first two movies: Slacker and Dazed and Confused. Anyway, I was truly overwhelmed by this movie. I thought it was the most realistic and beautiful romantic movie that I've ever seen and I still think so to this day. Any person who either loves to travel or has ever met a special person while on a vacation (and never saw that person again) will truly appreciate this movie. The ending scene where Celine and Jesse's steps are traced is unbelievably moving. I put this movie up there with the book "The Little Prince" as two of the most touching stories ever told.
