Rating: Summary: Very Funny! Review: If you like dry satire and are a fan of Waiting for Guffman and Best in Show, don't let the title scare you off. I love how colorful and fun the movie is in addition to the humor and music.
Rating: Summary: excellent music and dance Review: I love the music and the dance. There is not much in the story itself though, which is a little bit disappointing.
Rating: Summary: strictly enjoyable Review: As with any Baz Luhrman film, if you can survive the first dizzying ten minutes then you're good to go. the movie is about a noncomformist ballroom dancer named Scott who trains beginner Fran, who is in desperate need of a makeover. the two continue to dance, despite Scott's overbearing mother (who hopes to relive her dream through her son), and judges who hate Scott for not following the rules. the memorable cast also includes Scott's father (a once-famous ballroom dancer himself), Fran's grandmother who teaches her and Scott about rhythm, and Scott's kid sister, who brings a fresh outlook to the dance floor. some parts of the movie can be unbearable because they are overemotional, and the end is quite predictable, but I thoroughly enjoyed it, and I'm glad I stuck out the first 10 minutes of the movie. even if you don't know anything about ballroom dancing, you will find yourself wanting to start lessons as soon as you finish the movie.
Rating: Summary: A life Lived in Fear Review: What a totally fabulous movie.... a must see!!
Rating: Summary: hilarious, campy FUN Review: This movie probably rates as one of my favorites of all time - a classic ugly duckling story, pulsating music and dancing, and some of the most hilarious, over-the-top characters over. Add to that great Australian accents and a true hunk in Paul Mercurio (just wait till you see him dripping sweat during an improvised dance session alone in the studio!), and you have a great movie that can lift any mood.
Rating: Summary: Surprisingly Wonderful Review: Don't laugh. I bought a cheap copy of this movie because a preview of it was at the beginning of my favorite movie. (Indian Summer with Alan Arkin. I watched that preview so many times that I felt like I'd already seen the movie.) I liked it so much, I bought the new DVD so I could have a nice copy. It's got the same old premise...you know, ugly duckling meets gorgeous boy, talks him into noticing her and then he falls in love with her. (Yeah, right?) Nevertheless, I am truly falling in love with this movie. First off, it's hilarious. Second, the dancing is awesome. And third, the love story is sweet but not sappy. Just give it a try, ok?
Rating: Summary: Brilliant Review: Brilliant dancing .... Oz's Paul Mercurio with Spain's Antonio Vargas ....what a rivetting combination. Nice music... Colourful visuals /costumes...humourous, refreshing & unpretentious presentation of the plot. What more can you ask for ?? ... it's one of my favourite Dance Movies of all time. A really nice Aussie movie with Baz Luhrman (of Moulin Rouge fame) at the helm.
Rating: Summary: Another gem raked from the dross Review: When i first saw this title i expected to see Fred and Ginger glide across the floor too those fantasic Berlin or Gershwin tunes or it was about a guy with really tight underwear.Boy,was i wrong,a family picture,no explosions,no murders or beatings, you can watch with your kids without having to explain embarrassing bedroom scenes or language.Barry Fife(not Barney)is a shady dance promoter who gets his nose punched(that's the limit of the violence).Good acting, first class directing, good story line. The dance numbers are not as smooth as a big musical, but it would spoil the picture if they were, this is not Hollywood,it's Austrailia. All's well that ends well, everyone even the audience get on the floor and with big happy smiles and dance to a bouncy tune.If you want a family movie this is for you, you'l not be dissapointed. This is my second gem,the first was Sunset,i'l be looking for more.
Rating: Summary: A Lighthearted and Unique Comedy Review: Fun, intelligent, romantic and lighthearted. One of my favorites.
Rating: Summary: Quirky, Funny, Review: Took me about five times to realize this was a comedy, but it worked well as a drama and a comdey for me. Excellent, amazing, I watch it once a year when I visit my relatives and the new DVD version is much better than the old VHS one we'd watch. Love it! A+! yay!
