Review: This movie is one of my favorites; Christopher Walken's brooding Christopher Walken...ness, Denis Leary's comic relief so to speak, the superb acting from Jay Mohr, Jeremy Sisto, Sean Flannery, and blah blah blah...basically I think this is an excellent story conveyed with impressive acting, and I'm suprised at how this movie gets no real recognition. In any case, good stuff. I wonder if this is where Mohr picked up his Walken impersonation... or was it SNL? ah, who cares.

Summary: Good Movie, Lousy DVD
Review: I've heard the good and the bad about this movie and mostly agree with it all. I come out slightly in favor of liking this film mostly because of the performaces of Walken and Leary. The "Special Edition" DVD, however, was a purchase I could have done without. I was most interested in seeing the imfamous "alternate endings". Well, I got to SEE the endings, but thanks to Peter O'Fallon commenting over the dialogue of all of the characters, I didn't get to HEAR the alternate endings. The only time he shut his mouth was when the characters were NOT speaking any dialogue! I wish I had O'Fallons email address because I'd really like a refund on this DVD!

Summary: It's a shame
Review: This movie had so much potential to be great. But at the end, it left me shaking my head. I like Christopher Walken and I think he's a great actor, but he was not to believalbe as this mob kingpin. I contribute a lot of that to a bad screenplay and bad directing.
I think that the plot and the idea that the movie was swaying towards at the beginning was good but the movie was full of bad dialogue and terrible directing. Some of the stabs the movie made to try to be funny, didn't work. With execption to some Dennis Leary scenes. The characters weren't well rounded and the "twist" in the end was just flat out stupid. I would recommend not buying this DVD.

Summary: Fun to watch
Review: As always, Christopher Walken gives an interesting and fun-to-watch performance, even though 90 percent of the movie, he is strapped to a chair! Not exactly a family values movie. The R rating is a heavy one, due to absolutely extreme profanity, some strong violence, and some brief nudity. Aside from the ridiculous amount of profanity, the dialogue is fun, and the movie has an unforgettable feel to it. I would recommend it to groups of college kids, male or female. Definitely not to children (or parents!)I give it four stars out of 5

Summary: Independent Dependency
Review: SUICIDE KINGS is another film, in a long list of films, that tries to capitalize on the success of what's come before it. What may sound like a negative opening line, actually is not. The film works thanks to its solid cast and just enough quirk. Avery's (Henry Thomas) sister has been kidnapped. The abductors demand $2,000,000 and his family doesn't have the money. So he and a group of friends decide to abduct retired mob boss, Carlo Bartolucci, AKA Charlie Barret (Christopher Walken), and take him to their friend's house. There, the kingpin, is forced to use his contacts to find and win the girl's freedom. As always Walken steals the show. But the rest of the cast is up to the task of sharing the screen with him. Denis Leary, Sean Patrick Flanery, and Johnny Galecki, just to name a few, keep things entertaining enough. Even though the film borrows style from THE USUAL SUSPECTS and just about every Tarantino flick, I can overlook that because of this cast and their delivery. The film is directed by Peter O'Fallon with a good amout of twisted glee so that I can recommend this over films it emulates. This bargain DVD has surprisingly good extras. The commentary is well done and informative. T he alternate ending provide some food for thought to compare and cotrast over the conclusion used. The trailer, production notes, and cast/crew information round it all out. KINGS may borrow a bit, but in my opinion, the movie is worth a look. Enjoy

Summary: Another secret treasure!
Review: This is a real find for fans of Tarantino's movies and similar black-comedy/violent-gangster thrillers with a twist! Although the movie has an incredibly insipid premise (see plot) it comes across with exuberant energy, twisted plot and funny performances. Plot in a sentence: five college kids kidnap a former (?) mafioso in order to make him help them, through his connections, to find a kidnaped sister of one of them... Walken is his usual menacing self, but watch for excellent turn-up by Dennis Leary as his henchman... DVD is loaded with extra features, including the alternate endings. Seeing them justify why filmakers decided for the one in the movie... Favourite line: "Shoot him. No. Shoot him..."

Summary: Mystery and Suspense Without Sherlock Holmes
Review: One of the finest suspense movies that I have seen in long time. Avery has had the unfortunate luck to have his sister kidnapped and ransomed for $2,000,000. Unfortunately, neither he nor his father have that kind of money. So he and his friends kidnap retired mob boss Charlie Bartolucci (expertly played by Christopher Walken) so that he can use his contacts to find the girl and pay the ransom. Shocked, angered, and ultimately amused by his novice captors, Bartolucci agrees to help with Avery's sister. While doing so, one of his contacts lets him know that the kidnapping had help from an inside party. Slyly playing the friends against each other with this information, the tension slowly continues to boil until the movie's explosive climax. With an underrated but excellent supporting cast (including Jay Mohr, Sean Patrick Flanery, and Denis Leary), this movie keeps you on the edge of your seat the entire time because you're never sure who to trust. Perhaps the most brilliant aspect of Josh McKinney's script is the unending depth of the characters. Denis Leary's role is a perfect example: as Bartolucci's lieutenaant he posesses an expected viciousness and sarcasm. However, he allows a good soul to shine through at odd moments: like when he shows up to question a friend of the boys and instead protects her from the forced advances of her stepfather. Filled with tension that is only heightened by the film's biting humor and its complex characters, this is a great flick to watch with a bunch of friends so you can all guess whodunnit and be shocked by the ending.
