Rating: Summary: Cage was over-staged. Review: This is the first movie I've seen where I didn't like Cage's role. He was not staged well: over-done, too TOO dramatic. He is a great actor. I don't blame this one on him.
Rating: Summary: Worst movie of 1998 Review: It was not suspenseful and there was no mystery as to who the killer was. The only redeeming quality in the movie was the 17 minute opening shot. Horrible movie with some interesting camera work
Rating: Summary: Silly Eyes. Review: For years, I have followed the successful works of Brian De Palma, but recently it seems he's lost his edge, his style. Like Mission Impossible, Snake Eyes takes the leading actor ( Nicholas Cage ) and thrusts him into the spotlight. Supporting actors like Gary Sinese are reduced to nothing more than window-dressing and the overall movie lacks emotion and substance. Without a doubt the film's appeal rest solely on the popularity of Nicholas Cage, but take it from a avid movie-goer, Cage's character quickly becomes annoying to down-right stupid. To only saving point, is the continous 25 min shot in the start of the film. HOWEVER, it's the worth the price!!! Rent it! I dare you to try and stay awake during it ( I didn't )!!! Snake Eyes is a disappointing and dull attempt at De Palma's reclaim to fame.
Rating: Summary: ??? Review: this movie left me confused. the first half or so is a mystery. the second part deals with telling you exactly what happened & wrapping the whole thing up in under 100 minutes. so it's not a mystery at all by my definition. if this is truly the way brian de palma planned it, then i would be surprised. it's too explicit in terms of the amount of information you get. but rent it anyway.
Rating: Summary: Great beginning, great filming, great acting... lousy ending Review: This movie starts out spectacularly, with an extremely long shot following the crooked cop Nicholas Cage around the boxing arena. After the opening of the film, the film carries on by slowly unraveling the events that happened at the beginning of the film. At the end however, everything goes sour. I think this movie probably had an other ending, but after showing it to the average target group (that is not-too-smart American kids), they decided to give it another ending. I can't imagine that this ending was how de Palma planned it. All the different layers are dropped, the suspense is dropped, the bad cop suddenly turns to a good cop, betrays his friend and everything ends well. I think that a director's cut is required to make this movie into what it should have been in the first place.
Rating: Summary: A non stop thiller Review: A great thiller I enjoy all of nick cages movies except for a few.Non stop thiller if not buy it at least rent it.
Rating: Summary: Great direction...great acting Review: I thought this was a great example of how good a film can be when you combine great acting with great direction. Cage shines as the corrupt cop out to become mayor...Cage is well balanced by Sinise and both actors are supported by the great camera work and direction of Brian De Palma...a must see film!
