Summary: Perverted and disgusting
Review: My rating of this movie is really zero stars. The synopsis on the back cover of this movie in no way prepared me for the journey into the world of those who find extreme graphic violence erotic. Even the edited scenes of the anonymous young girl who was butchered and murdered on film to fulfil a sick, twisted and perverted man's sexual fantasy were more information than I needed or wanted to know. I'm sorry I rented this movie!

Summary: Disturbing...
Review: A much better movie than alot of people think. This is a very "dark" thriller. I was surprised at how much it "got inside my head", not many movie can effect me emotionally that way. By the end I was as enraged a Cage's character. There are some pretty significant behavioral statements made, especially by "Machine" himself. This movie really bordered on NC-17 edge. Personally, I would not let anyone under the age of 18 view it, and there are not very many movies I can say that about. I do recommend seeing it if you think you can handle it.

Summary: Riveting, Disturbing, Teasing, Tremendous film.
Review: If you're mind spends more time closed than open, or you're just after an hours worth of Nic Cage action then you'll leave this one dissapointed.If however you're after a well thought out thriller then you're in the right place. The subject matter is disturbing, and although the scenes aren't particularily gory, the most disturbing things are implied rather than shown. Some may be offended by the references to SM and other kinky sex acts, personally I didn't find this too shocking. Definitely a controversial film and one you'll either love or hate, go and see it, make up your own mind! :)

Summary: not for everybody, but what movie is?
Review: right from the go, the viewer must realize that if the darker side of human nature is not something that he/she is interested in exploring, then no doubt this movie will disapoint and potentially offend. however, these same qualities are what endeared me to this film in the first place... yes the film is dark, and deals with potentially controversial subject matter. yes, the sqeamish or overly moral need not apply, and yes the whole premise of the film goes right for the throat of a subject most people never even acknowledge, let alone actively explore. there is however, awhole bunch of really good imagery and music, and the film takes the whole"snuff" thing out of the safe little urban legend "cage" (pun intended) its been locked away in and puts right in our face! over all, if you have a curiosity about any of these matters (i obviously do not endorse such things in reality) its worth a watch... i must concur however, with my fellow viewers/reviewers that cage is at best a "b" rate actor and i would have much rather seen someone more talented cast in this role... by the way, for all the people that thought that this movie was actually disturbing, turn on the news...

Summary: Some people just don't get it
Review: This is a great film. It is very suspenseful, interesting, involving, and there is one scene in the movie that made me really feel it like I haven't in any other. I won't give away what it is, but you'll know when you see it. Nicholas Cage is great, the script direction and all the supporting cast give great preformances. You hate who you're meant to and care about who you're supposed to. Some people however, just don't get it. It's supposed to be twisted and perverted. It's supposed to turn you off. It was made to arouse anyone, these things exist in our society and this movie is meant to disgust us and turn us off from these things. They succeeded with me.

Review: This is dark and very graphic flick, if you're a weak chump, look somewhere else. These features make it realistic and helps to get the point across. You people giving it low ratings should have seen the unedited screener! Good job by Nick Cage, GREAT job by Joaquin Phoenix, he really made the movie.

Summary: Interesting but out of control
Review: I think a lot of reviewers are being too harsh on the film. First off, it is STRICTLY not for children. All the R-rated elements are taken to extremes in this dark film noir. Nicolas Cage gives his finest performance ever as a private detective who ventures into the world of underground porn to see if an 8MM film of a girl getting murdered is real or fake. The film is really interesting as it also examnies the changes of the lead character as things get more dark and disturbing. But as the film gets more dark it also loses control. Cage starts overacting and it seems to be almost unbearable towards the end with the extreme violence and disturbing nature. That very well could have been the point but it does leave sort of a bad taste in your mouth when its done. I found it to be a very creative and sinister look at the underground that so many people overlook. Some people might not like the graphic nature and that is perfectly understandable yet if you have a strong stomach for this sort of thing, check it out.

Summary: Not Cage's best.
Review: This movie was okay, I guess. It's not Cage's best. I wouldn't like to call it his worst since it's not all THAT bad, but this is my least favorite Nicolas Cage movie. Boy, Schumacher did it again, huh? First he ruined the Batman series, and now he blemishes a great actor's filmography. If David Fincher would have directed this (not because he's my favorite director or anything; this is just his kind of movie cause he did such a great job with the dark atmosphere of "Seven"), this could have been one great movie! Lousy Schumacher... he outta stick to his John Grisham novels and leave the cool things alone cause all he does is ruin them. The film is disturbing and it's a little effective cause you feel so sorry for the girl and her mom, but it's just lacking a story and just drags on. A good movie to rent, but if you wanna buy it, wait till the price drops a little. Lousy Schumacher...

Review: although it has much sex and violence, it is a chilling movie with suspense, though the action is delayed til the end. a good movie worth buying.
