Summary: WHO SAID THE THRILLER WAS DEAD?
Review: You know this type of film. One that you question (prior to watching) ever renting, ever placing in your VCR, ever filling 90 minutes of your life to view. All these questions, only to be proved horribly wrong. 'Breakdown' rather than being another of your run of the mill thrillers actually grips you more than the majority of films can. There is no denying the fact that you fear for the niave, edgy Russell as he fights to hold on to his wife and dignity in the face of the superlative Walsh. Indeed, it is the performances alongside perfect settings, pacing and zippy dialogue that don't give you time to lose concentration in fear of missing a key point. Jonathan Mostow has created that rare occurance in this day and age, a constantly edgy thriller with intelligable dialogue and meaning. Bar its dreadfully OTT ending 'Breakdown' deserves credit not for its originality - but at risking a scenario often thought of and poorly produced - and making it a highly watchable enthraller.

Summary: YOU HAVE GOT TO WATCH THIS MOVIE
Review: This movie kept me and my family on the edge of our seats. We never said a word throughout the movie. Nor did we even move. GREAT THRILLER BEST MOVIE FOR KURT RUSSELS. MUST WATCH!

Summary: It's about more than just everyman's car breaking down
Review: It's a great action flick, but it's also a very disturbing film about another far more reaching breakdown. Traditionally, the city has been portrayed as a dangerous place for a country mouse, but the tables are turned here.

Summary: This movie is an action packed master piece.
Review: This movie leaves you at the edge of your seat and is a movie with more stunts than I have ever seen. Jeff Taylor(Kurt Russell) and Amy Taylor(Kathleen Quinland) decide to move to California but on the way their new car breaks down. A big semi 18 wheeler stops and offers a ride. Jeff didn't want to go and leave the car alone, so he stayed and Amy went. About 2 hours later Jeff finds and unhooked circuit, hooks it up and drives to the meeting place that Amy and Jeff agreed on. When Jeff gets their, Amy isn't there. To find out the rest buy this superb movie from amazon.com.

Summary: I have not been on the edge of my seat since "The Good Son"
Review: It is really hard to find a suspense film that actully keeps you on the edge of your seat. One film that always gets me to the edge of my seat was the suspense filled "The Good Son". There was no suspense film I saw ever since I first saw that which kept me at the edge of my seat. "Breakdown" opened May 2, 1997. I was able to see it on April 26, 1997, one week before it opened at a special sneak preview. I did not think it would be anything special. Was I mistaken! Definately the best movie of 1997, one of my favorites of all time! The movie stars Kurt Russell as a man from Massachussetts who is driving to California with his wife (Kathleen Quinlan), in their brand new $26,000 dollar Jeep Grand Cherokee. While in Arizona, he stops at a gas station and goes into the minimart. While he is in there, a vicious looking man loosens an electrical wire underneath the car, so further along the road it will eventully slip off. Kurt Russell drives off, and just as expected, the wire falls off and the cars' entire electrical system shuts itself down. Russell cannot find the problem, thats when a trucker named Warren (the disgusting J.T. Walsh) appears on the deserted road and offers to take his wife to a place down the road called Belle's Diner to call for help. His wife goes with Warren, (because he is putting up a nice guy act, has a plastic Jesus on his dashboard, when he is really a psychotic lunatic with no soul) and Russell waits with the car. A little while after they leave, Russell sees the electrical cable that has slipped off, and slips it back on, which causes the cars' power to automatically go back on again. Russell drives to the diner, which turns about to be a very seedy place, somewhere you're not likely to call for reservations or throw a suprise party for someone. No one has seen his wife, and no one will talk. Russell soon finds out his wife has been kidnapped by the psychotic Warren (who goes by the fake name "Red Barr", complete with fake drivers license and everything) and Warrens three partners, the vicious man at the gas station, a decieving twentysomething kid, and a fat slob with a bad set of teeth. No one will help Russell, because he is in a deserted area, and the local sherriff is completely ignorant. I actully found myself yelling obscenities at the screen because I have never hated any movie villian as much as these four guys, especially Walsh. Just eight months after this movie came out, Walsh died in real life of a heart attack. It may seem cruel, but after you see him in this the image sticks in your mind too much, making you feel glad about it. I know, many people will disagree, but you cannot forget the disgust you feel for this guy Warren, and it is hard to forget. THAT is how hateful these villians are, nothing I have ever felt for any movies' villians before. Opinions vary, and some think the movies' last scene is guilty of overkill, but I applaud every single time at the end. You do not want to miss this movie under any circumstances-- Kurt Russell's best ever!

Summary: UNDERRATED
Review: This movie was one of the most suspenseful thrillers I have seen, yet it failed to win the praise of many movie goers. I hope Breakdown gets much publicity in the near future, because it still stumps me why I haven't heard of it before its HBO premiere.

Summary: A tense and suspenseful masterpiece!
Review: This is a tense and suspenseful thriller with a superb acting performance by Kurt Russell.

Summary: Russell's best movie and destined to be a classic.
Review: The best attributes of this movie are what is lacking in just about every other movie. It has a simple plot that is easy to follow (many believe that confusing plots make better movies), believable performances, and what I enjoyed most of all, the action relied on car chases and nail biting suspense sequences instead of a bodycount. J.t Walsh's character doesn't kill anyone throughout the entire movie, but he is one of the most loathesome villain's I have ever seen. Face/Off's villain left a trail of bodies behind him through the whole movie, and I didn't hate him as much as I did the scriptwriters. But in this, you actually cheer when the bad guys get their's. Russell's performance is his best yet as a completely believable everyday-man. The film opens with him getting into a bit of road rage with a nasty redneck. If the movie starred Clint Eastwood, Steven Segal, or Mel Gibson, the hero would have belted the living suitcase out of the redneck. But Russell just takes it in his stride and tries to avoid a fight. You know that he is scared. One review I read said that the final truck chase was a bit of a let down as it would have been better if they solved the mystery instead of getting into a Duel-inspired chase. I agree, but I don't care. The final chase is one of the most thrilling chase sequences I have ever seen. The only let down is the movie slows a bit in the middle, but the final chase more than makes up for it!

Summary: Gripping
Review: I was lucky enough to see this film at the cinema. It did not do too well, perhaps because it was better than your average gung-ho action flicks which tend to dominate.

Instead, "Breakdown", has a good story which builds up at a fair pace. Before long the film accelerates into top gear. The pace and the tension ensure that this film rises above the usual thrillers. A well written script also ensures that it rarely becomes predictable. This is still a highly watchable film and the tension never lets up.

The principal cast - Russell and Walsh are excellent and make for a wonderful combination.

This is also a good quality DVD, an excellent transfer - good picture and sound.

If you like thrillers with action, tension, pace and a cracking good script then buy this one.

Summary: Who can you trust in the middle of nowhere?
Review: Kurt Russell is excellent in this high octane thriller as Jeff Taylor, a man whose wife mysteriously vanishes. Even more suspicious is the unwillingness of the locals to aid in anyway. The scene at the bank was the part that really had me on the edge of my seat. After seeing this movie, it's a scary thought to be stranded on a desolate highway, having to rely on the "generosity" of a "kind" stranger. Kurt Russell has been great in practically every film he has starred in, and this one is no disappointment!
