Rating: Summary: If I could give this film zero stars I would... Review: Save your money and more importantly your time. Perhaps the worst dialogue I have ever heard -- I actually thought that the movie was a parody at one point (i.e., Laura San Giacomo as the indebted prostitute, huh?). Incredibly contrived (yet strangely convoluted) and a script that is riddled with holes. The use of the flashbacks and non-linear storytelling were truly offensive to those directors who actually know how to effectively use such techniques. I think the guy who did the soundtrack (and editing) was shooting weddings prior to this gig. And every single character (or caricature) was so poorly drawn that you secretly wished they would all be shot dead. Let's not even mention the embarrassing interplay between Leary and his 'goomba' sidekick ...The only redeeming thing about this entire movie was the opening roll of credits...
Rating: Summary: Suicide Kings is excellent! Review: Well, first of all I think Christopher Walken was excellent as he is in everything that he does. I think the small part that Dennis Leary played was perfect. And the idea and the character interactions where great. As for the other reviewers comments about the alternate endings being overshadowed by the directors comments. All you have to do is set it to the second audio setting to not have his comments.
Rating: Summary: One of the best optioned DVD I have ever seen... Review: This was the first DVD disc that I have ever purchased. "Suicide Kings" is one of my favorite movies. It has already become my favorite DVD of all time. I was most pleased with it. I have seen quite a few DVD's with the title of Special Edition accross the top of it and came to the conclusion that "Suicide kings" was one of the best not because of the quantity of the material but the quality. If you look at the options you get 2 alternate endings that live up to their pomise. It isn't one of those [weak] alternate endings where it is just shot from a different angles, it is a completley different ending. The film includes a directors commentary which tells you all of the about the film that is very interesting. Other feachers include: Alternate angles,a TV spot,2 trailers with different points of views trailer A promotes the movie from a dramatic side and trailer B is promoting it as a comedy. plus there are many more fun options to look at. The only thing I would have loved to have on the disc would be a Featurette. All I am saying is that this DVD Rocks!
Rating: Summary: Derivative....minor genre entry Review: Chris Walken, an American cinematic treasure, wrote the book on combining edginess with a quality of understatement suggesting a coiled spring, barely contained, about to explode. When graced with solid writing, a good cast, and strong production values, there exists no better genre actor (re his roles in "The Deer Hunter" and "Pulp Fiction"). Unfortunately, to parody the DVD cover, the concept was perfect, but the exection was not. This film suffered from being a derivative, watered down, pseudo-Tarantino-esque knock off. The other players were competent, but not nearly in Walken's class. The writing especially suffered, falling into cliche after cliche. I suspect that the movie might have been salvagable with a better script, and without the obvious cinematic stylistic nods to better films (e.g. the opening sequence with Dennis Leary and his partner engaged in much the same kind of patter....here about shoes.....in which Samuel L. Jackson and John Travolta engaged so effectively in "Pulp Fiction"). The differnce lay in the charcters and the script - Jackson and Travolta captured our interest - the Leary character and his partner seemed to be echoing a writer's composite of what these people should sound like, and every note sounded false. The best films of this genre all have literate scripts. The original "The Big Sleep" was written by William Faulkner. Tarrantino too is attuned to the nuances and rhythms of his character's speech. So see "The Big Sleep," "Pulp Fiction," "The Maltese Falcon," and "The Usual Suspects," and enjoy! One last point re an earlier review: when watching the alternative endings, be sure to use the audio button on the remote to turn off the commentary if you want to watch the scene without the director's comments.
Rating: Summary: The Right Suite is Played in Suicide Kings Review: Suicide Kings is a very dark comedy. Some aspects are very mind-boggling, and the plot twists keep you in suspense. Some say the plot is rather dismal. I, however, beg to differ. The plot may not be as detailed as those of big time movies, yet it manages too capture one's attention in a good way. In the movie, a group of 20 somethings kidnap a mob boss in order to find information about a girl. It is well acted and well directed. Its no big time movie, but its one of my favorites. I recommend a purchase - It is DEFINETLY worth it!
Rating: Summary: Movie is OK, but I'll tell you what I'm upset about Review: Movie was OK. Better ones out there. It's definiately more of a rental than a purchase unless you love it. There is one thing that ticked me off. Under the special featuures they feature alternate endings. Instead of letting us see and HEAR the ending, they have the stupid director TALK really loud through the whole thing, and basically mute the other people. You can't hear a single word they are saying! What is the point of showing an alternate ending if you aren't going to let us hear it? How stupid.
Rating: Summary: A surprise hit! Review: I picked up this DVD on a whim, not having seen nor heard any information on the title. I relied on the strength of the cast to not let me down. I was glad I followed my hunch. This is without a doubt one of the best dark comedies I have ever seen. The cast works together well, and the script is well written. Sure, parts are a little predictable, but there are still sufficient twists and turns to keep you interested until the film's conclusion. The DVD is packed full of extras too that make it a worthwhile purchase.
Rating: Summary: Bad Movie Review: This has to be one of the worst movies ever made, Despite the cast wich I expected more from. This was a really bad movie. The plot seemed like a good idea but the story never came together.
Rating: Summary: Walken is the King Review: I love Christopher Walken and this movie only pushed him over the edge of excellence his acting is superb and extremely convicing. He has much respect from me as an actor and he is the only actor who I feel that way about, and watching this movie will only show you what I mean.
