Summary: John Woo's worst
Review: I agree with red salmon that this movie had a great trailer and not much of anything else. Acting and cinematography were mediocre at best. The main problem was that Woo was forced to make a PG-13 movie, which really limits his skills. The plot was basic, and played out like a bad James Bond flick (the Roger Moore variety). Nobody was truely awful, except for the villian and the tokened chick Thandie Newton (which was expected. If you want great action movie check out John Woo's Hard Boiled and The Killer. M:I2 lacked a lot of action, especially compared to those two.

Summary: Outrageously fantastic
Review: Being an avid John Woo fan i'd have to say this ranks among one of his best. Next to The Killer of course. Not only is it one of my favorite Woo movies, it also ranks as one my favorite movies of all time. I can't see it enough. It has a perfect blend of action and romance. Some people complain that there is too much action. What? Too much action? If your a fan of John Woo movies then there is NEVER too much action. Even if you dislike some of the other John Woo movies you still gotta see this.

Summary: Entertaining Over The Top Action Film!!!
Review: This film was written by legendary screenwriter Robert Towne (Chinatown), he does add some interesting plot elements but it seems he wrote the story 'around' Woo and Cruise's Action sequences. The essence of the script and the S&M relationship between Cruise and Thandie Newton pay homage to Hitchcock's 'Notorious'. Cruise is in top form and his Ethan Hunt is rapidly becoming and American Icon, just as James Bond was 35 years ago. Thandie Newton is a very promising talent, but his relationship with Cruise seems one-dimensional and was handled wrongly. The film really shifts into full gear once the final action sequence begins, Woo uses his masterful skills for creating gun fights that heighten the movie to a level that makes the rest of the film expendable. The film does succeed on many levels, but it is also flawed and some of the action is too over the top. Overall a fun film and a nice collaboration between Cruise and Woo. From a scale of 1-10 I give this film a 6!

Review: What a great sequel! It's better than the original. It has lots of action in it and the motorcycle chase is sweet! This is a must see movie! Even that new song from Metallica is awesome! GO SEE IT!

Summary: "Isn't this movie going to be over soon?"
Review: As a fan of MI-1, and the catalog of Bond flicks, as well as many other espionage-flavored thrillers, I was eager to catch this film as soon it opened. Cruise had never been better in his latest thriumphs, Eyes Wide Shut and Magnolia. I just knew I was in for a high-quality, brilliant, Spy-vs-Spy, thrill ride. What I received was a plotless, over-cooked, empty, explosion-packed music video. There was nothing new to see in this film, and the "borrowed from MI-1" action sequences were far too "impossible" to begin to be believed. This new supermodel-turned-actress, Thandie Newton?? Did she have an actual role in this film or was she making a video-version of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue. Come on, pick a clue! The fact that most Americans will rave over this film and call it the best thing they have watched this year, does frighten me. Can you get the MI-2 "collectors" plastic cup at a fast-food joint yet?? I can hardly wait to get mine!

Summary: Fun, but...
Review: Nice mindless entertainment with some good action sequences, but-waaay too much use of slow motion,a slow middle third of the movie, a love interest who starts out strong but almost disappears,and, the point that bothered me the most,absolutely ludicrous use of the "mask" gimmick several times in key plot areas, which almost made me groan out loud in the theater. Still, an OK summer entertainment.

Summary: Great mix of plot and action in a classic John Woo style
Review: When the first Mission Impossible came out in 1996 it was not only a box office smash, raking in over 180+ dollars domestic alone, but it was also a complex and very well produced spy/espionage/conspiracy film. The downside was with its constant plot twists, double-crosses, and lack of action sequences, watching MI was more like solving a logic puzzle. By the end of the movie, one wasn't sure what happened or who was responsible. And usually the movie required that you watch it 2 or 3 more times in order to understand everything that was going on. However, the new MI 2, Directed by the master of action John Woo, staring Tom Cruise (who acted in and co-produced MI 2), Ving Rhames, and Thandie Newton, has the best parts of the first movie mixed with the great John Woo style action scenes. In the movie Ethan Hunt (Cruise) is called in to investigate an all too unlikely plane crash. In addition he is order to make contact with a civilian jewel thief named Nyah Nordoff-Hall (Thandie Newton) and recruit her for this mission. The particulars of the mission aren't revealed Hunt has contacted Nyah and met with his new boss, Swanbeck (Sir Anthony Hopkins). Before meeting with his boss, a relationship between Nyah and Hunt begins to grow (rather rapidly in fact) and when Hunt finally learns what her part of the mission is, he regrets having taken his work to a personal level. According to INTEL reports, Nyah was the former love interest of ex-IMF agent, Sean Ambrose (Dougray Scott) who has been deemed the primary suspect involved in the crash. Her mission is to infiltrate Ambrose's house, play the sweet love interest role, and find out any information on either the crash or the virus that the doctor, who left a message for Hunt, was carrying. What she ends up finding discovering was the the doctor was transporting a super Influenza virus, Chimera, named after the Greek mythological beast, as well as the only antidote, Bellerophon, the slayer of Chimera, which is only effective up to 20 hours after initial contact with the virus. Ambrose plans to release the virus in Australia and give the antidote to a single pharmaceutical company. In return, Ambrose will take control of more than half of the company's stock options and make billions off of the sales of the antidote. What follows is a battle against time in order to save Nyah and the world from Ambrose's Apocalyptic plan that is full of car chases, classic Woo style gunfights, large martial arts scenes, and fast paced action. And on top of that, a romantic sub-plot that allows the movie to take on a warmer characteristic that was nonexistent in the first movie. MI 2, the joint project of Cruise (who co-produced it) and Woo, has ended up doing what most action sequels usually fail miserably at. Not only does it meet the quality of the first movie, but it surpasses it, not only elaborating on the things that made it great but adding things to MI 2 that were never seen before in the first movie. In addition, John Woo has proven himself to be a master of his trade, able to take any type of movie and add his great point of view and experience to the set. Not only did he come up with most of the ideas for the action sequences and the choreography for the fight sequences, he was also able to keep the combination of action quantity and acting/plot quality at equal levels (so as not to have one overpower the other). This by any standards is a difficult task and a grand achievement. Also, Tom Cruse and Thandie Newton shine together. In each of their scenes together they have very good chemistry and their relationship never seems cheesy in conjunction with the plot. It really brings out a side of Ethan's character that, to this point, has not been seen. And of course the movie wouldn't be complete without Ving Rhames, whose return appearance in MI 2 as Stickell, the IMF computer whiz, has him playing a role of someone with both intelligence and wittiness about him. And it would not be right to leave out Sir Anthony Hopkins, whose role, although comparable in size to that of "M" in most Bond films, has much more life to it than that of Jon Voight's role of "Head of IMF" in the first Mission Impossible film. Mr. Hopkins also has one of the best lines in the film. "It's not Mission: Difficult, Mr. Hunt; it's Mission: Impossible. Difficult should be a walk in the park for you." Basically, this movie has got it all, action, suspense, drama, romance, comedy, and everything that some of the recent bond films have been lacking...the ability to keep you guessing. Unlike the first one, whose plot was terribly confusing, MI 2's plot has been written so that it is complex enough to be surprising while not being overly complex to the point where it is impossible to keep up with what's going on during the film. All in all they found the right formula and I hope to god they carry it on to MI 3 (which is predicted although not yet confirmed). Summary: Great movie, stop crying...
Review: i think this movie is just great. has some plot, has some action and to sum up, just what a man/woman needs to get off the pressures of everyday's life. it is annoying that people cry about how the movie and the first one doesnt have the same idea as the MI TV series, but isnt it true that when a theatre movie is like a chapter from the TV series, everyone says it is not worth watching cause it is like "a double chapter from TV". movies like "star trek-generations" for example was sliced by reviewers all over the world because of its similarity to its TV chapter. so i think MI2 (and MI too) has it all to be a theatre movie and doesnt lack a thing. think about it. john.

Summary: Better than the first: Not as good as The Matrix
Review: Most of us have seen Mission: Impossible, or have seen parts of it. And we know that you need to be focused on the movie to understand what's going on. At times, you forget this, get up and get something to eat, come back, and you're lost. That's Mission: Impossible for you! When they made this movie, I think they had that thought in mind, and decided to avoid it as much as possible. Mission: Successful. M:I-2 was much easier to follow than the first, and the action was better too. I saw the previews for this film and thought: Matrix! Yes! Not only was there rock music while they fought, they flipped and spun and the movie actually moved into slow motion. Hmmmm, was there another movie that did that? Mission: Impossible 2 was easily better than the first. There was more action, which was better, but less spy scenes, something I enjoyed. When it comes down to it, M:I-2 isn't quite as good as The Matrix, but as close as you can get. If you like James Bond movies, or The Matrix, you'll like Mission: Impossible 2. If you like the first, and you don't think anything could be better, you may be disappointed.

Summary: Mission : Dougray Scott
Review: I really don't care for action movies, but this one was quite different. For one thing, one of the most gifted actors was in it..Dougray Scott( Ever after, Twin Town).He plays a wonderful villian, a very far ranged actor. Tom Cruse was good,,grinning like an idot every fifteen mintues though. I did however like the stunts,,especialy the motorcycle chase, and the music was pretty cool as well.Well..I will definatley buy this video too add to my collection of movies with Dougray Scott :)
