Rating: Summary: Entertaining movie Review: In this movie, Denzel Washington plays the police chief on one of the small Florida Keys. He is in the process of a divorce and is having an affair with the wife of an ex-football star. His paramour finds out that she is dying of cancer and decides to change the beneficiary of her insurance policy from her husband to Denzel. When her body is found inside her burned house, suspicion turns to Washington. To complicate matters, the detective who is investigating the case is none other than his estranged wife. If this isn't complicated enough, there are a couple of other twists and turns along the way. The best performance in the film is undoubtedly that of John Billingsley who is hysterically funny as the usually tipsy medical examiner. This is a slickly-produced film and its fast pace makes it an entertaining one.
Rating: Summary: SMASHING STUFF !!!! Review: Even with it's flaws, I just loved this film and so did everybody else that watched it with me. Denzel is perfect as the harrassed/tainted detective [shades of "Training Day"] and Eva Mendes is also spot on. Carl Franklin's direction keeps the film moving at a crackerjack pace after a meandering start. The acting, the cinematography, the editing is also first class. The score by Graeme Revell is excellent. If one overlooks the few flaws, as I have, you'll have a great time. Kudos to everyone associated with the film.
Rating: Summary: Kept me on the edge of my bed Review: I loved this movie. One of the best movies I've seen all year. I'm a big fan of Sanaa Lathan, and Denzel Washington, and it was great seeing them play in a movie together. But to watch Denzel Washington sweat ... everytime he thought he was caught, had to be the best, cause he's always playing a character that's tough or the handsome save me guy. But this time, he was into something that was too much for him. I loved it.
Rating: Summary: Film Noir in Banyan Bay. Review: The only reason to even bother with this predictable film is Denzel Washington, who gives another strong performance. I found myself rooting for his character to pull off his elaborate escape, but all the coincidences were just unbelievable. The timing that other characters had getting informantion exactly at the moment Denzel walks in or comes across a bit of useful information of his own that could possibly further his plans for setting things aright, got to be a little ridiculous. Besides, this is just a rehash of other films of the same genre, and it is predictable for anyone who has seen them. I was also disappointed in the performance of Eva Mendes, who is more eye-candy than detective. However, kudos go out to the makers of this movie for pulling it off in a professional manner. Not great, but a decent rental.
Rating: Summary: Almost a cinemax straight to video movie... Review: I saw Out Of Time this weekend. It was ok, not great, but ok. I was kind of disapointed when not too far into the movie I pretty much figured out what was going on, and I was like great, I figured this out and the doofus in the movie still hasn't figured it out, but he does figure it out pretty quick after that and the rest of the movie was about how he tries to fix things and how to stay one step ahead of the bad guys AND the good guys, which was kind of interesting in places, but also kind of yeah right in places too. I was worried it would take longer for him to "get it", but it actually didn't and after the first 15-20 minutes the movie actually moved along fairly well and stayed pretty interesting. However, without Denzel, this could have easily been confused with a low-budget straight-to-video cinemax film. A good renter, but would have been a disapointing theater show.

Rating: Summary: Alright, but not Denzel's best Review: This movie was alright, there was really nothing special about it. A lot of you were right, it was way too predictable. I guess I was expecting more since Denzel was in it, but this goes to show you that every great actor has a less than great movie every once and a while. This movie really didn't bring out the best in Denzel, or the supporting cast for that matter. Let me get started on Eva Mendes, she was mediocre at best in the role she played basically because she didn't have any chemistry with Denzel. She seemed more like his little sister than his estranged wife, and because of that, the movie was kind of ruined for me in the end when they got back together. I think the character would have been better if someone like Angela Bassett or somebody closer to Denzel's age would have played his wife. I've only seen Eva in this movie and 2 Fast 2 Furious and so far she hasn't really impressed me, maybe she just needs some better roles. Dean Cain was alright in his role, he played off of Denzel pretty good in the few scenes they had together. Sanaa Lanthan did pretty good, but I would have liked to see her be a little more manupulative and evil, but I guess I have to blame that on the script. I thought she actually had chemistry with Denzel and were a lot more convincing than Denzel and Eva. But what ruined it for me was when they said they were supposed to be high school sweethearts, again they were stretching it because of the obvious age difference between the two actors. Well like I've said in the beginning it was alright, not what I expected at all. I would only recommend this to hard core Denzel fans, but even they may be a little disappointed with this movie.
Rating: Summary: More like "Waste of Time" Review: A great-looking tropical setting can't save this pedestrian stinker that would have been just so-so as a tv movie. With an absurd plot and characters this one barely hobbles to a finish. Everthing thats wrong with movies today. UGH!
Rating: Summary: 'Must've been a HUGE carrot dangling in front of him! Review: It is obvious that Denzel was offered a pretty decent paycheck to participate in this "thriller". Playing a William Hurt-like character (Think "Body Heat"), Washington falls victim to the oldest con job in history: a "hottie" with an abusive husband and a terminal illness. Seems as though, Washington's police chief "Whitlock" would've seen this one coming a mile away. Too many plot devices are thrown in and Washington miraculously manages to avoid what should be his fate. Perhaps, because it is the two-time Academy Award winner assaying the role, the moviemakers decided to opt against logic and, instead, allowed the "hero" to escape the inevitable in this mostly forgettable film.
