Summary: Most inventive storytelling since Pulp Fiction....a MUST see
Review: I deliberately avoided plot summaries in every review I read before going to see Christopher Nolan's brilliant "Memento", and I'm very glad I did. Without spoiling the film by summarizing any of the plot for you, I will simply say that this is the most interesting WAY to tell a story through the camera since Quentin Tarantino's 1994 breakthrough "Pulp Fiction". Think you're good at out-guessing the direction of a plot? This one will confound you. Every time you think you know what's happening and why, the next scene erases everything you thought you'd figured out. And prepare yourself for the deliberately un-tidy ending. This is not a film that wraps things up neatly and ties it in bow for you at the end. If ten people saw this film together, they would walk out with ten different (and all seemingly valid) opinions about what really happened.This film isn't just a must-see. It is a must-see-several-times. And for me, it is a must-own. Ignore the chidings of old-farty critics like Roger Ebert (once one of my favorites). This is a film made for a younger, edgier audience with new ideas about the world. And it seems that, much like the brilliant "Fight Club," the older critics just don't get it. Guy Pearce has never been better, and Carrie Ann Moss will definitely surprise you. GO SEE THIS MOVIE!

Summary: Clever, original, smart, VERY different from whats out there
Review: This movie is a much needed breath of fresh air in a time when "cookie cutter" formula films continue to pacify the populace. Let me clarify what has been stated before, the movie does not start at the "end" then take a point in time and progress forward, rather it shows the "end" and literally works its way backward in 5-10 minute sets, so that you don't completely understand what you have just seen until the next scene is shown, whereupon you don't fully understand THAT until the next scene, etc. Sounds confusing, but its done VERY well. You never get lost. There are some scenes that are genuinely funny. There is nothing like hearing the audience crack up laughing at something that happened in the last scene when the joke is "set up" in the next scene you see! The actors are great, this movie shows that there are still people out there who are truly original! PS...This movie is even better the second time you see it !

Review: I loved this movie. I saw it two times in the theater, and I NEVER go to see a movie twice in the theater. Like The Sixth Sense, this is the type of movie where the less you know going in, the better off you are, so don't read too much about it. Just go see it, what are you waiting for? And don't miss the beginning!

Summary: An immersive experience
Review: Guy Pearce's character Leonard has a strange neurological condition where he can't form new memories. The last thing he remembers is someone attacking him and his wife and his wife's death. The accident left him unable to remember any new experiences. Obsessed with catching his wife's killer, he stumbles day to day, not remembering the people he met yesterday, trying to keep a "system" that he can review and keep himself up to date. He has dozens of Polaroids stuffed into his pockets... he'll pull one out labelled "my car", "My hotel" etc... The immersive experience of this movie is in the way it's edited. It's told in reverse in short, 4 to 10 minute segments that go back in time. Just like Leonard, you don't know the past. Because there are so many scenes, you'd need an excellent memory to keep them all straight and things only come into sharp focus at precise moments. This is just like Leonard's life. I loved the movie, it's original, well constructed with excellent acting and directing. I've never seen a movie like this before, and rarely seen one so fresh and immersive. The last movie that was this immersive was probably "The Sixth Sense" with Bruce Willis. If the movie had been told going forward in time, it would have been a run of the mill murder mystery with Leonard's condition being a bit of a sick joke. Told the way the film makers decided to film it, Leonard's life is a poinant tradgedy and the movie is the best movie in years.

Review: this movie took me on a total trip through so many different emotions, and even in the end i left completely confused. i actually felt like i was in his place for the hour and a half that the movie ran.

Review: If you're trying to decide which movie to see tonight, look no further. Memento is the movie for you. Most movies these days are forgettable (like Pearl Harbor), but Memento stays with you. The day after I saw this, I kept analyzing the character's and their actions - the telltale sign of a good movie. Also, it was fun to discuss the movie with my friends and unravel the motives in the movie. Unforgettable characters, an enthralling puzzle, and a fresh approach to filming (telling the story backwards) make this a winner.

Summary: wintersleeper
Review: Sorry, wintersleeper has nothing to do with this film, but it's the same principal idea. Wintersleeper is the title of a german film (original: 'Winterschläfer'; Director: Tom Tykwer, who also made the movie: '23') in which the main-theme is also this short-memory-loss-stuff. So, the 5 stars are rated to my extraordinary curiosity about memento, because the story is really fascinating. Hopefully awaiting this movie coming out in europe.

Summary: Quasi-Wonderful Movie
Review: This film is one that is best seen with little prior knowledge of the story. There are just too many interpretations of what the movie is about and how things happen. So, go see it and form your own opinion then listen to the other "experts." I found the movie to be extremely interesting and compelling for the first hour and 30 minutes. Then it started to run out of steam and became predictable. If you like a movie that is all neat and tidy that ties up all the loose ends, this movie is not for you. But it you like a movie that will spark conversations and debates, then see Memento ASAP.

Summary: Memento - It certainly did make me think...
Review: Why do people watch a whodunnit? They want to know who did it! After watching Memento, most people do not have a clue about who did it, I am sure! Who raped and murdered Leonard's wife, and made him lose his short term memory? Is he really a tragic victim, manipulated by those who seem willing to help him, or is he faking it? I did not know. My wife, who is even smarter than I am, didn't have an inkling either. She even missed the two second scene right before the end in which you see Leonard in bed with his wife (not raped? not murdered?) with the words "I've done it" tattooed on the designated spot, his heart. Was this truth or fantasy? The opening is great, I admit. You do not realize that the fading Polaroid of a murder is actually developing. You feel great: the story is presented in reverse order, and you get it! Not a completely original idea (Seinfeld, Martin Amis), but flawlessly executed. The present is in black-and-white, the past in colour. You sympathize with Leonard, getting by with his Polaroids and memos, but how short is his memory? Some scenes seem to last longer than the two minutes he told us. It gets harder when a second series of black-and white scenes is woven into the story. Still you hang on, it's the introduction to the flashbacks in colour. But in the end things just go too fast. Why was Lenny's wife killed? Who did it? Did he do it himself? Why does he need a second "John G."? The director, Christopher Nolan, has made form prevail over content. I always feel cheated when a character concludes the film with a philosophical statement about the unknowability of reality, of past and present . Sure, but let us sit back and meditate then. Movies should create order, while still presenting that same message. It is no coincidence that many reviewers compare this movie with another overrated movie of great incomprehensibility, The Usual Suspect. Audiences like to be baffled, that seems obvious. Memento is more interesting, because more intellectually challenging, than The Usual Suspect. It does indeed make you think. Pity that the thinking is at a much more basic level than the director might have intended: who on earth did it?

Summary: movie that will be talked about
Review: This movie made me write my first review for amazon.com. Being a fan of movie that have interesting stories, I just fell in love with this. This is the movie that would just keep you at the edge of your seat. This definitely is not an overrated movie. It is right up with movies like usual suspects and fight club, that become more enjoyable at the second viewing(in the days of price hike in movie tickets you have to careful what you watch). The geek from LA confidential(guy pearce) plays a insurance investigator looking for the killer of his wife. "I have this condition". He is incapable of making any memories but he remembers what happened before the death of his wife. To help him remember he photograph all the new people he meets. He has all these permanant tattoes on his body. The visuals are great. The movie grabs you right at the first scene when the bullet flies out of the body back in the gun. Joe pontaliano is a great actor, I have liked him since "bound". He was also in "Matrix". Carrie Ann Moss is perfect as the femme fatale. In the summer where most movies are coming out just to earn money,(that doesn't mean all of them are brainless), this is the movie you don't mant to miss if you enjoy using your brain while watching a movie.
