Summary: The Cell
Review: Well what can I say this film is bad. Totally unoriginal, with very little shocks and a predictable screenplay. Jennifer Lopez seems very miss-cast here and makes what she can with the self-conscious dialogue, although there's nothing wrong with her acting but I found it really hard to believe her in this role. Vince Vaughan is good playing an FBI man and is well cast, but I feel that his character as well as Lopez's never really develop fully, although the killer Carl Stargher (Vincent D'Onofrio) is well thought out and is shown as three different characters, this is quite ingenious, but it won't save the film. On the visual side of things, the film excels with elaborate dreamscapes and costumes and good production design, but once again this won't save the film from being just another Hollywood hack film.

Summary: SKIP THIS MOVIE . . .
Review: It's a horribly acted, underdeveloped story masked by some of the most interesting and charged visuals. Need I say more?Besides being pretty, Ms. Lopez has no redeeming qualities as an actress. She's a deadfish on screen with no depth beyond the layer of makeup she wears . . . And Vincent D'Onofrio, dressed in a miriad of shocking costumes, chewed any bit of scenery in his path. At one time, he was a wonderful actor but it seems he has moved into the John Malcovich school of acting: THE BIGGER THE BETTER. Where are the textured performance of the past? I'll give some credit to Vince Vaughn who attempted to breathe some life into his thinly written character (he was far better than what this movie deserved). Enough is enough . . . if you insist on watching this movie, turn off your brain. You're in for a less than wild, sporadic ride.

Summary: Tarsem and J. Lo rule.
Review: Tarsem Singh the director of The Cell shows that he knows exactly what he's doing when he is behind the camera. This serial killer film is one of the best films of 2000. The plot of this movie has a great hook. The entering of a persons mind by a second person. Jennifer Lopez's character has to enter the mind of a serial killer in order to figure out where a missing girl is before she drowns in his sick trap. The plot isn't all though. The stellar direction courtesy of Tarsem, using a combination of computer effects and elaborate sets, he creates the inner recesses of the mind with a very distinct visual flair. From the disturbing mind of Carl which encompasses a rather surprising setpiece involving a horse, to the serene desert of a little boys mind, the sheer staggering beauty of the images is hard to describe. But on top of this, Tarsem shows an exceptional talent for storytelling also. He cuts between the search for the missing girl, and "J.Lo" searching the mind of Carl with absolute precision. The suspense is excellent, i was unable to turn away from the screen. The acting is rather good in this movie also. Jennifer Lopez is a great actress, she gives a very good performance, juggling multiple incarnations of her character, from a sullen therapist to a leather clad uber-warrior wielding a crossbow. Vince Vaughn is given a typical FBI agent character, and is very convincing in his role. And then there is Vincent D'Onofrio, probably the most underrated actor in hollywood, he has always been great. This is just another example, he is just disturbing, a complete sociopath. Vincent plays him perfectly. This visionary, ultra-entertaining film, strays from the norm and pays for it. People hate it, because they like their serial killers charismatic like Hannibal, not to be completely indecipherable like Carl, that's a real shame. Because this movie has a lot to offer, if given the chance.

Summary: One of the worst.....
Review: By far one of the worst movies of all time. The Cell rates right down there with "Howard the Duck" and "Stigmata", which are perhaps the two worst movies in the history of mankind. The story... stinks, the acting is borderline bearable (I'm a Vince Vaughn fan, and although I can't say anything bad about him, this movie was tough to swallow), and the movie seemed to be generally without direction. I was very anxious to see this film and was sorely disappointed. The effects were good. But unfortunately, this is just a miserable mess of a movie.

Review: Real dumb. I really don't know how to describe this mevie. I was really looking forward to seeing it! Boy what a disapointment. The movie just doesn't make any sense. It plods along with one bazzar scene after another. Then at the end the climax really has nothing to do with the rest of the movie. What a bore.

Summary: Ever have a nightmare? Now you can watch one!
Review: I think this movie vividly reflects some of the nightmarish realms that exist in our subconsious, and if you appreciate surrealism, you will definitely enjoy this film. The cinematography plays with a range of styles and the imagery only goes from bizarre to MORE bizarre! The first time I saw it, I left the theater simply saying to myself, "What the hell did I just see?" but as I saw it again and again, I've grown to love it more each time.

Summary: The rape of Salvador Dali...
Review: This movie is nothing more than a complete and utter mind FUnK! THe story line is nothing original...a sci-fi psychological, mind of a killer, thriller?! Hmmm...yes, I'll admit this film has some heavy special effects involved and is pretty amazing when viewed for the first time, but it's nothing new. It could of easily been a movie based upon the paintings of Salvador Dali...slap in a corny storyline and it IS. So basically, you just have to view a few paintings of Salvador, do some acid, and use a worn out storyline. WARNING: Do not view this film under the influence of any heavy mind altering drug...I can't even imagine what that would be like. To sum it up, visually amazing, but the story bites. Go ahead and read "The Secret Life of Salvador Dali," you'll find more satisfactoin.

Summary: A breakthrough in Horror films
Review: I will not be exaggerating if I were to say that this movie does to horror films what Jurassic Park did to "creature" films. The visual power of this movie is extremeley strong, and the horror levels are really going to scare you. Get a good sound system, turn off the lights, and venture into a mind which is so sick, it's fascinating.

Summary: Breath taking art and effects
Review: I had heard all the hype for The Cell and I really was not interested in 2 hours of Jennifer Lopez having costume changes. I am not a big fan of hers. Until a friend of mine in Canada told me he was part of one (of many) of the visual effects teams for the film, I had not been willing to sit thru it. So I decided to give it a watch and I was amazed. The acting was terrific. Jennifer Lopez must have had nightmares for months after completing this film. With such amazing effects it would be easy to lose a grasp on reality. Entering the mind of a killer, well the plot wasn't fantastic. But it is worth it alone for the art and visual effects and the immensley beautiful costumes. The movie itself was very horrific and intense, and not due to an outlandish plot but the effects. The storyline isn't as good as Seven, but the effects outshine anything I have seen to this day. Don't watch this movie expecting anything like the Matrix but more like NIN Closer To God (uncensored) video meets (the movie) Legend (costume/make-up effects) - but in this new age of technology and digital design. Any Graphic Designer, Story Board Artist or Illustrator (Digital) really MUST take the time to watch this film. Also the quality is amazing, everything is very crisp and clear. I will watch this movie again (and again?) just to catch what I had not noticed before. Really, amazing effects.
