Summary: Horrific Fun
Review: A decade after the original SILENCE OF THE LAMBS, Anthony Hopkins is back as one of the most memorable characters to ever grace a movie or televison screen, the cannibalistic Hannibal Lecter. It's too bad that most of the original's sophistication and style didn't come back with him. Uber hack Ridley Scott manages to add all the gore and guts that Jonathon Demme only hinted to in the first film--this is not for the squeamish. Hopkins is typically brilliant, going just short of over-the-top, and also manages far more screen time than the half hour or so he took up last time. Julianne Moore does a fair job as FBI agent Clarice Starling--it is admittedly a little jarring at first thinking of anyone but Jodie Foster in the role, but as the movie progresses(and you realize that this in no way measures up to the original on any level), then you sort of just go with it. In the end, what you have is A-list actors stuck in a big budget, B-level horror flick.

Summary: Jody Was Right
Review: Jody Foster was right in choosing to skip this misguided sequel to "Silence of the Lambs" "Hannibal" is Anthony Hopkins show and he remains delighfully twisted as the ultimate cannibal serial killer- but the plot is just an excuse for grotesque set pieces. In orde for us to sympathise which such a demented psycho we are given a more monstreous villain- a hediously disfigured child molestor who is obssessed with getting his revenge on the good Doctor Lecter- but this revenge is elaboratly preposterous-the entire film seems to be an attempt at classy Grand Guinol-but the results are gorgeously revolting- the final shocking dinner scene is simply silly.

Summary: Why change things?
Review: I first read the book - excellent. I was anxious to see the movie! It followed the book pretty well, but the ending is so totally different! Why change the endings like that? I much preferred the ending in the book. Other than that, it was overall a good movie. Don't plan on eating while you watch it! If you don't have a weak stomach, I'd recommend this movie.

Summary: Craniotomy Before Dinner
Review: "Hannibal" as several characteristics that set it apart from "Silence of the Lambs." The plot is weak and fairly predictable. Scene transitions are poorly developed. It is gross simply for the sake of being gross. Anthony Hopkins was true to the "Hannibal" form but, Julianne Moore as Agent Starling was no Jodie Foster. She looked the part but no other personality traits carried over. Casting would have been improved had Ms Moore played a different agent. Finally, the movie was fairly well photographed and the DTS 5.1 sound was OK. But, overall, the film alternates between being sick and sicker. No wonder it was a box office flop.

Summary: Gotta be worth five stars
Review: Well as DVDs go this one is pretty reasonable value for money. I think that there is over 300 minutes of footage on the two DVDs. There is an alternate ending and the usual deleted scenes. I would have liked some of the great trailers, but they are lacking on this edition.

As far as the movie goes: It's great, very well done all round. Some die hard fans of the first movie may not like it. At the end of the day this is a quality movie, which stands alone. I enjoyed it.

Summary: Interesting: Not as gruesome as expected
Review: I almost did not watch this film because of the reviews and gore factor. However, I did not find it as gruesome as expected, and I watched it twice in 24 hours. During the second viewing there were a couple of scenes I chose not to watch again. I found this film quite riveting, although for different reasons than "Silence of the Lambs". In "Silence of the Lambs" I found Dr. Lector to be more of a monster whom indiscriminately killed his victims. However, the story line was unpredictable and challenging at times. However, in "Hannibal" Dr. Lector's own psychology is made clearer, his contempt for the rude and corruptible, and his respect for the incorruptible. I found myself actually liking Dr. Lecter, although still a monster. And the people he killed were rather unpleasant individuals and, surprisingly (shamefully), I found myself not bothered by their demise. Which demonstrates the magnetising effect Anthony Hopkins has in this role. I felt Clarice's character was quite realistic following her experiences in the FBI, and I found myself understanding her plight and respecting her incorruptibility. The story line was not really challenging, but the film was interesting and entertaining.

Summary: FUN!
Review: Surprisingly warm and sentimental sequel to "Silence of the Lambs" finds everyone's favourite serial killer setting up shop as the curator of a posh European art museum, while simultaneously falling in love with FBI agent Starling from the earlier film! Nicely complemented by some of Celine Dion's prettiest songs, this bullseye sequel is sure to rekindle magical memories of first love. Hopkins is compelling as the museum curator.

Summary: More gore doesn't make for a better movie...
Review: Overall, this movie was worse than "Silence of the Lambs." It has more gore and goes to explain some of the occurences in the first movie, but it still leaves you with questions (giving room for a sequal). The orginial movie was mostly about the psychological aspect of the killers complete with an engrossing plot. Both movies have very good acting (Anthony Hopkins is perfect for the role as Hannibal Lector), but the story is lacking in the sequel. Hannibal takes a while to get into the actual action of the movie, and it's not as exciting. But even so, it still manages to be somewhat entertaining despite the odd twists in the plot.

Review: Everybody who has seen Silence of the Lambs is entitled to consider it one of the best thrillers of all time, because there is no denying the fact that it is true. However, I believe strongly that everybody who was bashing Hannibal, which is a tremendous film, was simply blinded by these thoughts. A few words of wisdom: STOP COMPARING THE TWO MOVIES! Silence of the Lambs was no better than Hannibal is, it is just different. They are both equally tremendous works of art and I'm so sorry if Hannibal was just too intense and violent for some of you whiny crybabies out there! GET OVER IT! If you can't take the heat, stay out of the fire, that's my motto. Also, if the plot was too hard to follow for some of you out there, I'm only 15, and I was still able to understand it after viewing it only once! Here's an idea: why don't you actually try and make an attempt to PAY ATTENTION TO DETAIL! So, what I suggest any readers of this review do is buy or rent the film, and base your own opinions on it. You won't be sorry.
