Summary: I'm having an old friend for dinner.....
Review: I can not help but laugh at that line. Hopkins did a brilliant job a portraying that cannabalistic yet lovable psycho for the ages, "Hannibal the Cannibal" Lecter. Foster also made brilliant work of her role as Clarice Starling, the overachieving and brilliant FBI agent assigned to attempt to have Lecter vouchsafe clues as to the whereabouts of a like-minded killer. Although a little overacted, that fact merely adds to the absurd humor in this rather perverse film. The pure chemistry between Foster and Hopkins add to the twist in which Starling begins to befriend a psychotic murderer. The scene in which Lecter so cleverly escapes leads us to almost admire and inwardly clap for him (who can say that they were hoping Lecter would not escape as he beat the guard with his own nightstick?). The final scene in which Lecter sits calmly at bar on a Carribean island and follows his "old friend" and plans to make dinner of him is both comical and chilling at the same time as it laeves many items unfinished. A brilliant film at once satirical and humorous and dark and chilling.

Review: IT'S DETAILS THAT MAKE GREAT MOVIES AND THE DETAIL THAT STRUCK ME AS A SUMMATION OF THE PERVERSE NATURE OF THIS FILM WAS THE SCENE WHEN CLARICE WAS GOING THROUGH THE VICTIMS MUSIC BOX.

Summary: Weak and bland
Review: Let me count the faults of this movie: - Overacting - especially by the laughable Hopkins, but also by Foster (and that "accent" of hers...!) - Underacting - on Glenn's side: he's as vivid as the Vice President. - No originality - sticking to the novel even when it's unnecessary, without any creativity on Demme's side. - All new points are ridiculous: the silly ending, the cheesy lines ("fava beans"), and Hopkins' ludicrous "jumps" (his hiss, especially). - No style - especially when compared to the talent of Michael Mann who managed to turn Red Dragon into the wonderfully atmospheric Manhunter.Anyone who prefers this mess over the superb "Manhunter" is simply an average viewer, of our time - possibly not too bright and not experienced in the genre... as the comments show. O tempora, o mores!

Summary: One of the best films to date
Review: Sure, the plot is unpredictable at times and maybe the acting is a little overdone, but no one can claim that this isn't an incredibly original, wonderful,and frighting story. About the complaints with its unplausible plot: Movies are made to provide escape from everyday life. If you want believability, stay home and watch PBS or History Channel documentaries. And Hopkins' portrayal of Hannibal is his best ever and well-deserving of his Oscar. I'm looking forward to the sequel.

Summary: The greastest mainstream suspense film ever
Review: Let me get this over with, "Manhunter" stunk big time to the general public. I personally fell asleep during it and it made barely any money in its theatrical run and it won no awards. "Silence" swept the oscars and made a fortune. The movie is brilliant to the common movie goer, and I feel that it has been given a bad rap on this page. So many people are saying they like it but are then giving it two stars. The movie is entertaining, who cares if the plot isn't 100% realistic, I know that I wanted to see a fun movie, not a lecture on FBI procedures. So for those of you that somehow haven't seen the movie, get it immediately.

Review: This is a brilliant film from the mind of Thomas Harris. The screenplay, which is based on his book, is terrific. Anthony Hopkins gives the best performance of his career. This film deserves every Academy Award it won, and more.

Review: As a student, Agent Starling is sent to an asylum to interview Doctor Hannibal Lecter, locked-away forever for being a psychiatrist who enjoys psychopathic cannibalism. "Buffalo Bill" another serial killer just snagged a senator's daughter and Lecter is Starlings only link to getting Buffalo Bill. FANTASTIC, ON THE EDGE, GET IT!

Summary: An absolutely superb release of the best film of all time
Review: The Criterion Collection release of Silence of the Lambs on DVD is an absolute must own film. Not only do the visuals and sounds shine like never before in this version, but the inclusion of countless extras such as deleted scenes, original storyboards, two commentary audio tracks, and exerpts from the FBI handbook and serial killer interviews make this the definitive release of an all-time clasic film.

Summary: Great Movie, Terrible Video Transfer
Review: Did anyone else notice how awful the picture quality was? There were white and black specks visible here and there throughout the film. Is this the best they could do for the criterion collection? The other version on dvd is supposedly much cleaner. Trust me, the extras on this version are not worth the step down in picture quality that also comes with it(unless you want an extra 30 second scene and about two minutes of extra dialogue from existing scenes). Buy the other version for less money...
