Summary: LEAVES YOU COLD
Review: Two more intense and talented actors there scarcely are in cinema today-Anthony Hopkins as the diabolical and positively frightening Hannibal Lecter and Jodie Foster as the FBI agent Clarice Starling. Both are at their best, and this film would be worth seeing just to see the two of them in action. However, the film itself is haunting and at times disgusting and disturbing. Americans love this sort of thing, so if you want to see gore, you may as well see it in the best of hands.

Summary: WOW This was a classic
Review: If you want to see one of the most thrilling mind games that takes your head for a spin you may just need alot of popcorn and soda for this one... well maybe you wont want to eat because of the topic... but what ever you do it is a classic and you will love it on the edge of your seat.

Summary: The best suspense/thriller ever made.
Review: I know that sounds like an atypical comment, but it's true. The Silence of the Lambs is a tour-de-force of plot and suspense, culminating to the point where some scenes become unbearably nerve racking. The film is bolstered even more by two brilliant performances from Anthony Hopkins and Jodie Foster. The sight of Hopkins and his performance is far scarier than any monster or demon you'll ever see. Foster is equally as memorable, creating a character that is easy to empathize with. This is definitely a must if you have not yet seen it.

Summary: Great DVD of a modern classic
Review: Anthony Hopkins' character Hannibal Lecter will go down in history as one of the most memorable and one of the most creepy characters in film history. His performance chills you to the bone yet you can't help but laugh at some of the things he says. The movie is also fantastic. Instead of just being a straight forward serial killer thriller the movie became a classic with it's intense psychological aspect between the detectice Clarice Starling, played by Jodie Foster, and Dr. Lecter. The directing is very straight forward, sometimes almost documentary style and never gets in the way of the movie. With a story this strong flashy camera effects would've only distracted. With solid directing, great acting, and a good story this film is worthy of being called a modern classic.

As for the DVD it contains some great extra features. The Commentary is great although the person who introduces the actors everytime they speak is a bit annoying. There are also some interesting deleted scenes and the quotes from serial killers will chill you to the bone. If you can get your hands on a copy of this now out of print DVD grab it and buy it as fast as you can.

Summary: Ruined a really good movie!
Review: I've been looking forward to the release of "HANNIBAL". In anticipation, bought the Criterion version of "SILENCE OF THE LAMBS" to watch before seeing the sequel.

The movie was ruined for me due to POOR picture quailty. I buy DVDs for the great picture and sound, this version is really disappointing.

If you are looking to buy the Criterion version instead of the regular release, save the extra money unless you want it just for the "collectability" of it. I have the Criterion version of "ROBBOCOP" and thought the picture from that movie was just bad, now I think the Criterion versions are just bad.

I'm going to buy the orginal version, don't know what I'll do with the Criterion version?!

Summary: A movie that lives up to the book!
Review: The Silence of the Lambs was one of the greatest films ever made. The thing that is so great about it is that it lives up to the wonderful novel by Thomas Harris. Jodie Foster did a great job as Clarice Starling and Anthony Hopkins was the only right man to play Dr. Hannibal Lecter.

After FBI agent Jack Crawford calls Clarice Starling, an FBI trainee, to go and interview Dr. Lecter, she learns information about the serial killer named Bufallo Bill that the FBI is trying to catch. This gives Clarice a big name for herself.

I won't give away anymore information involving the plot of this wonderful film. This movie has a great cast of characters and a wonderful story that only Thomas Harris would be able to come up with. Go ahead and see this movie, but I reccomend that you read the novel first!

Happy Viewing!

Summary: Excellent Picture...
Review: The Silence of the Lambs is an excellent psychological thriller, which follows Thomas Harris' novel almost word for word. Anthony Hopkins, in the roll of the sociopathic killer Dr. Hannibal Lecter, creates an aura of suspense throughout the entire film, even though he only appears in a small number of scenes. Jodie Foster's portrayal of Clarice Starling, is very believable, and follows the the character description provided by the novel very well. Through outstanding acting, a fabulous screenplay, and excellent cinematography, this film is definitely worth the 5 academy awards its name has earned.

Summary: Criterion selection
Review: Loved this movie, looked at the deleted scenes that the Criterion selection offers over the regular version, and I don't know if it is worth the extra cost. The deleted scenes were not influential in the movie. The picture on this is awesome, and the sound quality is great. The difference between the criterion and regular dvd of Silence of the Lambs was only [a little bit], I still think it was worth it for the "extras", but otherwise, if you only want the movie, you could probably go with the basic Silence of the Lambs DVD. Although I don't know if the picture quality is as good as this one.

Summary: Classic movie-- Terrible DVD!
Review: I happen to own several other Criterion Collection DVD's, all of which are magnificent-- excellent video transfers, superior audio, and a huge assortment of extras. The extras on this DVD are really quite good-- the commentary is fabulous, and the deleted scenes (despite being rough edits) are interesting. However, the video transfer and audio leave a lot to be desired. I couldn't believe how poor the video was-- lots of graininess and debris-- it was almost like watching a bad film print with a dirty-lensed projector! Terrible! I love this movie, but I'm incredibly disappointed with Criterion on this one!

Summary: Chilling
Review: "Silence of the Lambs" is the only movie that truly scares the living daylights out of me. Anthony Hopkins' performance as Hannibal Lector is simply spine-tingling and compelling. I can't fathom anyone else playing the role of our favorite cannibal. I get goosebumps when mentions about eating fava beans with a glass of chianti. I still get creeped out when Hannibal escapes from that makeshift jail. That scene outgrosses any scene in any given modern day horror movie. In fact I can't really watch the moment Hannibal escapes without covering my eyes. Jodie Foster is awesome in her portray of Clarice Sterling. I like how her character handles herself while amidst a group of male cops at a funeral. You rarely see a female role in movies where she doesn't take any kind of (nonsense)from male authority. Clarice Sterling is one of those rare characters. In conclusion, there isn't a movie like "Silence of the Lambs" that can stand the test of time and remain one of the scariest and intense films.
