Summary: a real thrill!
Review: a tight, taunt, deliciously acted movie, The Silence of the Lambs is a real thrill to watch. beautifully acted, this movie made Sir Anthony Hopkins a star and Jodie Foster, in my opinion, a Hollywood legend. the closing scenes of which we see through the killers' goggle aided eyes were heart wrenching. the way her eyes were wide open trying desperately to see, to allow light to enter her eyes. the way her gun shook from fear. you could hear the bullets clattering in the chamber. just beautiful. ms. Foster's performance was duly noted by the Academy, as was mr. Hopkin's. i believe this was the last movie to sweep the Academys' top five categories: picture; director; actor; actress; screenplay [ from another medium ]. there is also an original screenplay category for which this movie did not qualify.
this film, however, definitely qualifies as an american movie classic about an almost totally american phenomenon, serial killers.

Summary: Superb!!!!
Review: It would be a total waste if I didn't buy this special edition DVD. The interviews with Foster & Hopkins (plus a whole bunch of deleted scenes) really enhanced what I consider the best suspense/thriller ever made. Since so many reviews have been written on this movie, I just want to add one little comment: Jodie Foster was quite right when she chose not to reappear in the sequel "Hannibal". In doing so, she actually proved to be as smart as Claridge Starling herself. Too bad Anthony Hopkins couldn't resist the temptation. So Hollywood lost the second battle but still won the war: "Silence of the Lambs" remains the best. Let's pray they don't make a sequel to "The Sixth Sense".

Review: This great Thriller became one of the most influential Horror and suspense films of all time, this is the second in the Hannibal Lector Trilogy ( with Manhunter and Hannibal). Can't tell you what it is all about cause you've proberly seen this movie, a must see for thrill-seekers.

The DVD from MGM has an Digitally Remastered Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound, also in Anamorphic Widescreen with an Documentary, more Deleted Scenes (Never Seen from the Criterion Collection), Outtakes and More. Based on the Second Series of Novels by Thomas Harris and Written by Ted Tally, who did win for Best Adapated Screenplay for this. Also a Winner for Best Picture, it`s was also Nominated for Best Film Editing and Best Sound. This is One of the Best Film of 1991. Watch for filmmakers:Roger Corman, George A. Review: Everybody knows the story, so I'll just give a brief re-cap: Serial Killer "Buffalo Bill" is on the loose; he's kidnapped another girl, and within a few days she'll be dead if The F.B.I. can't catch him. Trainee Clarice Starling is sent to parley with the notorious Dr. Hannibal "The Cannibal" Lecter, hoping that the brilliant Lecter may be able to give them some insight that will lead to Bill's arrest. And we're off.... Lambs is a brilliant, chilling film, fueled by a great source novel (by Thomas Harris), great acting and great directing. I love the movie, the DVD transfer looks and sounds great, so lets concern ourselves with the extras, OK? The DVD comes with 20+ minutes of deleted scenes, most of which add absolutely nothing, but a few are quite interesting, particularly Jack crawford's verbal sparring with a Johns-Hopkin's Doctor over the release of patient files, and a few more scenes of F.B.I. Agent Krendler, before he became dinner in Hannibal. There are a few minutes of funny outtakes, a large picture gallery, the 1991 "Making-of", and a brand-new hour-long documentary, that unfortunately doesn't feature Jodie Foster or Johnathan Demme. It is very interesting, and provided a lot of new information on the early goings-on, such as Gene Hackman being slated to Direct and Star in the film. Another cool goodie is a message from Anthony Hopkins, in character as Hannibal, that you can put on your answering machine. All in all, a nice package. My only beef is the lack of a commentary track on the movie. Oh well....

Summary: Great movie but... Don't buy this DVD!
Review: I am not going to discuss the movie itself because I agree with most of you that this movie is so GREAT. But this "Criterion Collection" is an expensive DVD that should at least satisfy us! Well guess what, it is not DTS, it is not 5.1 channels, IT IS 2.0 CHANNELS!Not only that, there is no subtitles and the deleted scenes are so worthless! The best thing I liked about this DVD was the Voices of Death & FBI Crime Files, which are so great but can never justify the high price or the "Criterion Collection" title!

Summary: The Silence of the Lambs (Widescreen Special Edition) DVD
Review: The Silence of the Lambs remains one of the all time greatest horror movies, that goes beyond anything that slasher horror flicks can do. Little has been left unsaid about this classic movie, but I would like to say that the reason that I love this film is becuase of it's two lead actors. Anthony Hopkins and Jodie Foster work of each others talents when they are both onscreen to give the audience real frights, by just having a conversation! That is true cinematic genius, which Jonathan Demme was able to capture. The Collector's Edition DVD has great material into the making of the film, with some insightful interviews with Foster and Hopkins. The deleted scenes are great to watch, but for most you can tell, that it was for the best not to have them in the film. The only minus was that the great audio commentary from a previous "Lambs" release was unable to be included becuase of legal issues. Oh, well...can't have it all...

Review: The movie is for lack of a better word, perfect. The performances and the chemistry between Anthony Hopkins and Jodie Foster are perfect. Buffalo Bill scared the hell out of me. But what I most grateful for is the new DVD version. The Criterion collection for me was too expensive, with not interesting special fetures and awful sound and image, like the original VHS tape only with the same 10 years of wear and tear. But this DVD gave me a new experience, I had only seen the film on TV and on a extremely bad and old VHS tape I rented, but nevertheless, I though it was great. But when I saw DVD, I could not have been more amazed, the sound is impecable, the image is very good taking account the age of this film and the use it has got, but the image is great, just some few tiny scratches on the opening title. And the especial fetures are great also. The deleted scenes, although the have awful image, they are still great. The phone message of Hannibal, I mean Anthony Hopkins is hilarious, but the best is the new documentary, I have seen it many times and every time I find it interesting. The thing I loved also and found strage is that although it has a lot of special fetures, it is only one disc, thanks MGM for that favour. To sum up, if you want to buy a scary DVD for Halloween, buy this shilling movie, you won't regreat it, and if you do, "I will eat your liver with some fava beans and a nice chianti.....shshshshshhs".

Summary: Call Hannibal, No More Manhunting! Silence Is Back On DVD!
Review: Okay, a lot has already been said about the 1991 multi-awardwinning masterpiece, The Silence Of The Lambs. And to most, the Criterion Edition, which is no longer in print, is the must-own version of this classic on DVD.....or is it? I bought this edition recently & I got to tell you, I like it better by MGM! First of all, the Criterion wasn't in 5.1 audio while this one is! To audiophiles, that 5.1 is a must. Second, the picture is much brighter & more colorful compared to the Crit. And third, it has more extras than the Crit version (sure, it doesn't have the "Serial Killers" biography, but does that really pertain to this film directly?). This one has the original 1991 "Making-Of" featurette, but it also has the NEW reflective "Inside The Labyrinth" documentary with new interviews & for you "Serial" fans, it contains many photos from that missing unrelated biography mentioned earlier. Also, it has a neat little feature "The Anthony Hopkins' Phone Message", which sounds great on anybody's answering machine, trust me. It also contains many features that the Crit had too, like the 20 minutes of deleted scenes, film photo gallery, all the teasers and trailers (including one for "Hannibal"-Crit didn't have that one!), and a very eerie menu totally different from the Crit as well. I guess what I'm saying is, "Why go to an on-line auction website and pay over a hundred dollars for an out-of-date version of the film, when you can get a just-as-good version for under thirty?". It makes sense to me to buy the latter, unless of course you're an obsessed DVD collector or must own every DVD version of a certain film (I can't talk though, I personally own BOTH versions of "This Is Spinal Tap", but the extras are greatly different on both versions). Save your money and get your Lambs at Chickens prices!
Oh yeah, one more thing: You might notice this review is for the "FULLSCREEN" Special Edition, rather than the also availble "Widescreen" version. Yes, I did buy the fullscreen one. The reason why I did is because I currently own about 120 DVD's & maybe five of them is fullscreen, so why not a change of pace? And it really shows off the colors on this Pan & Scan version too! Don't worry though, all of the supplement features completely match on both MGM Lambs versions. And it seems that more copies of the "Wide" are being made than the "Full", hmmm could that mean that the "Full" could become the collectors version in the future? We'll see.
So enjoy one of the greatest suspense films of the 90's with a nice Chianti and remember, nothing is ever louder than Silence!
