Summary: best movie ever
Review: i dont understand why this movie wasnt publicized better. none of my friends had heard about it and werent even willing to see it because they hadnt seen the preview. this is unfurtunate because they have missed a great experience.

superbly acted by guy pearce (l.a. confidential) and carrie-anne moss (the matrix). it's a triumph in direction (the guy's a genius). the movie goes backward through time scene by scene, and as the film progresses, the main character knows less, but the viewer knows more. that's the only way the plot could work.

After watching the movie, i wanted to do two things: discuss the ending and the character's motives and see it again! i went to bed thinking about it. i sill havent seen it a second time but i really should. solid five stars.

Summary: A refreshingly undumbed film
Review: I can't really add anything to the other 5 star reviews for this film. I was told to watch this film by a number of friends and FINALLY got it out on DVD without looking at the cover notes and I am glad. It took me about 7 minutes for the concept to click and from there I was hooked. The sheer joy of watching this film unfold made not knowing ANYTHING about it worth it. I can only assume that anyone who gave this film a low star rating did not get the concept of the movie or was not in the right mood. You do need to have your brain switched on so choose your viewing day with this in mind. Guy Pearce(Neighbours soap opera actor) is an actor who has proved he is not 'under-rated' via LA Confidential so why isn't he in the high-profile films that his Confidential co-star Russel Crowe is in. Pearce has far more depth of character than Crowe. It is refreshing that films which actually need you to think are still being made. And not one special effect in sight. A suggestion to the producers - would it be possible to re-cut the film so that it goes FORWARD on a DVD edition as a comparison to the backward version?

Summary: Mementous?
Review: Imagine one film which will make about one in ten people never forget it and think it should immortalised in history while the other nine people say "what was that? i don't get it so i will bag it" and you will have memento. immortality is a song by pearl jam and this is what memento should have. from the beginnning to the end you will think you know what will happened and then it will change and in the end you will say it got me and you will want more. this film will never bore me shall it bore any true film lover. it is a fantastic movie as long as you are willing to think and willing to be stooped. how anyone can walk out the cinema and say it wasn't an awe inspiring film mistifies me beyond belief. i laugh at all those people who do because they are the ones who don't understand films and wouldn't be able to put two sentences together. go out and watch this and if you love it we have something incommon if not go enjoy your silly little backstreet boys music and your yuppie lifestyle. if you disagree or want to bag me go on and write to... i love constructive criticsm and will chat about memento! i'll leave you with one thing "remember sammy jankis"?

Summary: "Momento" is a Courageous and Challenging Masterpiece
Review: Guy Pearce deserves an Academy Award nomination for portraying a man no sane person should ever envy. An Academy Award nomination is also warranted for Joe Pantoliano in his supporting role of Teddy. The character Leonard is permanently brain damaged by a criminal during the latter's sexual assault attack upon his wife. A blow on the head leaves Leonard with total short term memory loss. Leonard searches for those responsible to bring them to justice and also provide meaning to his life.

The action is fast paced and riveting. We observe Leonard trying to hopelessly unravel the mystery by writing down copious notes, taking countless Poloroid snap shots, and even having tattoos concerning supposed evidence placed all over his body. Who can he trust? Is the mysterious Teddy a friend or foe? Leonard succumbs to the charms and pleas of the bartender played by Carrie-Anne Moss. We see her as mean and manipulative, but Leonard is nonetheless beguiled by her pretended well meaning earnestness. Yet, is she truly despicable or merely hiding a warm heart behind a cold exterior? The highly talented character actor Stephen Tobolowsky brings much depth to his role of Sammy Jankis. Leonard is riddled with guilt for his earlier handling of Sammy's insurance claim. Is this guilt justified, or is Sammy truly a con man? Director Christopher Nolen splendidly uses flash backs to help us follow the plot. The screen writing is simply fantastic. Rarely has so little been accomplished with such a small budget. Nolen is also to be congratulated for not selling out to the Hollywood financial establishment by changing the story line to attract a wider audience. We leave the theater somewhat frustrated wondering how to distinguish between fact and fantasy. How do we make sense of what we just saw? A real life Leonard, though, is doomed to never realizing the significance of his most recent actions. Nolen makes us suffer the same fate.

The director is not indulging in silly decontructionist existential claptrap like Sean Penn's absurdly awful "The Pledge." This is not a brain dead pretentious film that dares us to declare that the emperor is wearing no clothes. Nolen is instead inviting us to consider how a human being might adjust in real life to a horrifying predicament that thankfully few of us will ever have to endure. I have absolutely no hesitation in giving this great film 5 stars.

Summary: watch it all. i mean watch it all.
Review: This is truly a fantastic movie. It is fresh and exhilirating to watch. The best film I have ever saw ? , probably, although I will watch it a 2nd time to confirm, and boy do i want to see it again. I could not take my eyes away from the screen nor my ears away from the speakers. If you enjoy discussing film with friends then this is a movie that will provide hours of debate after watching it. Get your friends round ,have a drink, not too many, and enjoy this treat. I am not going to bore you with the details as plenty before me have gave you the jist of the story. All i will say is that the story begins with an act of violence which is the end result of a mans quest for retribution. The who and the why ?. Watch it make and up your own mind. You will not be disappointed.

Summary: EVEN THE BRITISH LIKED THIS FILM...
Review: MOMENTO is an awsome film whos greatest charm is that it works in reverse. Confusing to begin with but rewarding by the end, this thriller film is a real must see twice. If you're into simply relaxing and sinking into the sofa for an evening, then this isnt for you. But if your mind thirsts refreshment and enjoys guessing the bad guy, i couldn't recommend it more! great stuff.

Summary: Interesting film deserves a second viewing
Review: If Leonard(Guy Pearce) can't remember anything after his wife dies, then how does he know that he has short term memory loss? I choose to believe that every 15 minutes or so, he wakes up as if waking up in the morning, and realizes that he cannot remember anything after his wife dying. He may do this very quickly, but he does this nonetheless. "Memento" starts at the end and works its way to the beginning. The first scene which begins with a polaroid photograph fading is in a backward motion, but every scene afterwards plays with time running forward with flashbacks holding the film together. The use of starting the film with the end and ending at the beginning is used as a device to make us as confused as Leonard is. When something new comes into play, we have to think of everything that had previously happened to fully understand its significance. All Leonard has to rely on is photographs that have his writing on it. He has to trust his own handwriting. He doesn't remember writing the messages, but he will do whatever they say, using them as a form of memory. The film follows him putting together the puzzle of who killed his wife, the mysterious John G. "Memento" is full of characters who may not be what they seem, including Natalie(Carrie-Ann Moss) and Teddy(Joe Pantoliano). The flashbacks focus on a man named Sammy, who may have the same type of memory loss that Leonard has and has relevence to Leonard's own situation. Leonard keeps on meeting the same people for the first time and always explaining that "He has a condition". The end of the film changes everything about what we have come to learn and it would not be possible to show this film with all of the scenes in chronological order. "Memento" is an indie hit but did not do as well as it should have(Its highest box office slot was number 10). When Leonard is asked why he is pursuing this because even if he succeeds he will not remember it, he answers "If I close my eyes the world doesn't disappear does it? What difference does it make if I know about it?"

Summary: Memento
Review: The story of Memento may be very hard to follow, but that could be the point of the movie; to test the audience's short term memory. In the movie, the main character, Lenny, suffers from anterrograde amnesia, a.k.a. short term memory loss, and is on a mission to try and find the man who raped and murdered his wife and hit him on the head which caused an injury to his hippocampus, hence the anterrograde amnesia. The main problem Lenny faces in his detection is obviously his "condition", but to throw in another kink he isn't quite sure who he can trust. There's the gorgeous Natalie who is helping him and the mysterious Teddy. Starring: Guy Pearce, Carrie- Anne Moss, and Joe Pantoliano, in my opinion the latter two give oscar- worthy performances. Memento is a thought provoking masterpiece that absolutely should not be missed.

Summary: Riveting entertainment that keeps you guessing.
Review: The most amazing thing about this film is that someone had the creativity and genius to come up with such an evocative idea, and put it together with such style. The film takes the viewer from the "present," an enigma itself, and craftily moves backwards in a convoluted presentation of events that manifest a feeling of having the same condition as Leonard, a former insurance investigator with brain damage that has left him with short-term memory loss:he can recall events up to the time of an accident, but throughout the film only remembers events for 15 minutes or so.

In an effort to organize information, and stay alive, Lenny constantly photographs people, places, and things, jots down info, and etches the most important information into his own skin.

This fast-paced film joins some of my other favorites: The Usual Suspects, No Way Out, and others that I enjoy seeing again and again.
