Summary: Better than expected
Review: This just looked like it was going to be a bad, cheapie flick, as it had no MPAA rating (indicating that it probably was straight-to-video), no flattering critics reviews to be found, etc. However, I found it to be a very tasteful production of a very tasteless subject. There is not a lot of gore here, but the storyline makes up for that, especially when you consider this is a true story. I have never studied up on Ed Gein, so I can't really say how accurate this portrayal is, but I get the feeling that it is fairly close because the performances and staging are so muted and never over-the-top. Railsback does a pretty good, creepy job of playing the title psycho.

Summary: Alright but could have been better
Review: This is one of those movies that doesn't completely reck of boredom but is right up there. I would call this movie "much (Freddy) ado aboot nothing" The playa that played Gein lookes like the crazy man but its just pretty stupid. I mean Ed what do you need that bloody anti-freeze for anyways. Better than Dahmer but worse than Gacy. Try to avoid this jobber of a movie unless your AD CL or JMa

Summary: Are You Afraid of the Dark...After Hours
Review: What do I mean by this? Well the movie is like a "kid friendly" version of the real gore and story. The movie overall was pretty good for a low budget flick. I guess if you can find this movie late night on HBO, Cinemax or Showtime, I would suggest checking it out there because it's not worth the price of admission.

Summary: CREPPY AND UNDERPLAYED
Review: I think ED GEIN was a good movie. for the most part accurate. but a little under played not by the actors or actresses but by the writers. it is creppy but i really think there could have been a little more well a lot more insite in the life of ed gein they could of put a little gore in it but i really think they are trying not to offend people or realitives that this happened too because i know i would not want to watch a movie where my mom is getting hacked up by a physco. that is why they should have wated a little longer to make a movie about him. not saying that this movie isnt good just saying that if made life 5 years from now it could have been great..

Summary: WEIRD MOVIE
Review: I came from this area of Wisconsin. Gein dug up graves from a graveyard 3 miles from my childhood home. I don't know why a person would make a movie about Gein. He was a sick person and did alot of terrible things to people. He's not somebody to be glorified!

Summary: Pretty good movie.
Review: Hey, I love Ed Gein as much as the next freak.....and I find this a pretty accurate depiction of "Cousin Ed's" career, if we can call it that.

Worth the price of admission. Does not blatantly contradict the facts.

Summary: If you know anything about Ed...
Review: Don't watch this movie expecting to learn much about Ed Gein. I'm not saying that this movie was bad or anything. But if you want to learn about Ed Gein it' best to stick with books. I watched it after reading Deviant. There are a few things I wanted to comment on. Augusta Gein (Ed's mother) did not love her children or show any emotion towards them. She felt that having children was just part of being married and that it was in God's plan for her. In the movie there were a few parts were Augusta actually cared for her children. I had to wonder about that. Also, Augusta was a intimitading person and was feared by her family. The part where Ed's father hit Augusta doesn't sound right. Ed's father was also an alcholic and very weak (influenced by Augusta). Also it seemed like Ed knew what he was doing. But my assumption of Ed after reading Deviant was that he did not know what he was doing was wrong. This is what I've read. The setting is in Wisconsin. It's too bad they couldn't film in a town where there is snow on the ground. The end does take place in November during deer hunting season. It would've helped this film out a little. This movie is alright if you just want entertainment. But if you want the real good information on Ed Gein it's best to stick with books. If you know anything about Ed Gein this movie will be a little disappointing. You don't get the real effect of what he was really like.

Summary: A competent retelling of a serial killer life!
Review: Accurate and gritting retelling of the life of famous serial killer, Ed Gein, an apparently quiet and simple minded guy of Wisconsin. The movie goes deeper in his perturbated mind, his tormented relationship with his mother and father and brings out a crude but real portrait of the madness and profound infelicity of this mad criminal.
Steve Railsback gives a impressive performance and when someone see this one maybe the question comes up: why Mr. Railsback is not a Hollywood favourite? I'm waiting for a reasonable answer.

Summary: Weird, good, and will chill you to the bone.
Review: Railsback delivers an outstanding performance as the American Serial Killer to launch 1,000 stories. (Psycho, Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Silence of the Lambs are just a few of the works inspired by or borrowing from some of this true life tale)

Gein is a quiet loner who harbors an unimaginably psychotic mind. (And that is putting it mildly!) His townsfolk recognize him as a nice, if slighty odd man. While his public eccentricity isn't enough to arouse suspicion, watching 'Ed Gein' will make you look twice at quiet loner's in your area.

While the overall story would benefit a little more from understanding his childhood homelife, (The film does cover it, briefly, but overall, I felt there could have been a little more backstory) it's hard to imagine a homelife that could spawn such a monstrosity of humanity. Railsback's triumph in the performance is also his ability to make this animal a sympathetic character!

Definitely not a disappointment!

Summary: Excellent & Disturbing Portrayal of the Infamous Ed Gein
Review: Personally, I thought this film was a thoroughly enjoyable ride. As mnay people know already, Ed Gein (Americas first well known serial killer) was the inspiration for such horror classics as The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Psycho, and Deranged. With such a monumental impact on the horror genre, it was due time for the real story of Ed Gein. One note is the contrast of Ed's public life, with that of his macabre personal life. We are shown an Ed that everyone in town knows and trusts- his dark life known only to the audience until the final moments of the film .I also feel that Steve Railsback did na excellent job playing Gein. A fesh twist on a familiar and influencial character, I give this film four stars out of five.
