Summary: A great Russell Crowe performance in a weird film
Review: The only reason to see this film is the brilliant performance by Russell Crowe as Colin, an unemployed mechanic, who lets his decency get in the way of his survival instincts. The best moments are between Colin and his father, perhaps the only other person in the film with any acting skill at all. These moments show what the film could have been, and are well worth the price of the film.

The film itself goes from a weird bank caper to a weird chase/road film. The lead "actress" is truly irritating, with a voice that resembles nails on a blackboard. She is unable to project any personality or make you care about her, but exists merely to put Colin at risk. Crowe, however, is enthralling.

Summary: Russell Crowe and Australia - Need I say more?
Review: The person who thought this movie couldn't decide what genre it wanted to be simply has not watched many Australian movies. That IS it's genre! I happened on to this on HBO and couldn't take my eyes off of it. Yes, it's quirky and it works. Russell Crowe is intense and the love scene focused on his face was incredible. I added it to my movie collection as soon as it was available.

Summary: Crowe sharpening acting skills
Review: This early movie of Russell Crowe's displays his abilities as an actor that lead up to "Gladiator." In this low-budget Aussie movie, a free-spirited Japanese girl on her honeymoon in Austrailia "throws in" with a basicly good but risk-taking local boy. It's a wild ride from there. If you like Crowe's work and want to see this actor evolve, this is a must have for your collection.

Summary: For die hard Crowe fans only
Review: This is for fans of Crowe who are interested in seeing all of his movies. Don't get your hopes up though, he really isn't in the thing THAT much, little dialogue and few close ups. The actress he is teamed up with is not good and the plot is slight. It just didn't work for me!

Summary: Great love scenes
Review: This is not the best Russell Crowe movie I've seen, but it's definitely not the worst! A "Mad Max" type of movie, but for the women that love Russell Crowe, I thought the love scene was unbelievably hot! I watched it over and over. And the scene at the ball when they are dancing is heart-rending. Worth sitting through the whole movie. Girls, buy it!

Summary: Only for die-hard Crowe fans, otherwise - TV stuff!
Review: This movie belongs to the type "chase'em up, kill them all!": after Colin (a rookie bank-robber out of need) saves Midori (a newlywed, obviously unhappy), they engage on a rollercoaster ride, heading to the ocean coast (must be some migration instinct with Australians, to always head to the ocean coast, especially in the movies e.g. see Romper Stomper), chased by Afghan butchers' clan, crazy Midori's husband (Japanese should sue the director for showing them in such unflattering light) and police, of course.

I've seen this movie on TV and that's where it belongs: it has a couple of "on-the-edge-of-the-seat" moments, a couple of fights, a couple of touching scenes (Crowe's character in love always touches a woman's heart), a couple of funny moments (mostly when portraying Australia being full of weird inhabitants)tha tare unevenly distributed over the usual B-type road-movie. Colin and Midori exchange maybe two dozens sentences during the whole movie, and it has pathetic Romeo&Juliette-style ending that had affected me in the way contrary to the intended.

Crowe must be a patriot of his country and in strong need of cash to participate in the film. 2-star stuff, but I'd add one more star for Crowe's ability to grow sideburns and wear overalls and still look terrific!

Summary: Why I didn't care for this movie
Review: What's the point of all this killing and violence in a movie? It slurs Japanese and Arabs. People are murdered like popping corn, one after another continuously. Last I checked violent injury is pretty unpleasant, yet in this movie it is treated like candy, kill this one then that one pop pop pop. An utterly pointless movie and a waste of film. Next to Caddy Shack 2, this is the stupidest film ever. They talk about karma, but I would hate to have the karma of having made Heaven's Burning.
