Summary: When you gaze into the abyss...
Review: Those who panned the film should ask themselves whether they are capable of reading the info on the cover of the DVD. It definetly doesn't read "nice little film for a romantic evening with your loved ones at home" 8mm shows how a P.I. gets deeper and deeper involved in a case of so called "snuff" pornography. The whole thing becomes a 'tour de force' for his own conscience, a process which is excellently developed throughout the film. It is not some "Death Wish" like avenger flick for people with extremely low IQ's. The only thing one could criticize here is the way the whole Porn industry is portrayed in the film. Black latex, leather masks, punks and freaks.Talk about the worst cliches ever here as well as Hollywood puritanism. Besides that, extremely disturbing film you will end up watching again and again.

Review: Ok here's the quick word on this horror making > The story starts with a rich old woman in a big old house she hires one man {Nicholas Cage} to view film of what looks like a snuff film {horrible murder butcher man killing the girl} so the old woman want Nichols Cage to do two things .

1- find out if the movie is really 2- find the girl if she's alive

believ me the movie is interesting and I think what the writer was trying to express was the banality of true horror that people who do horrible things are seldom impressive just sick little maggots but if that was the point it really doesn't come through well. So, check it out for yourself and let me know what you think

Summary: more than just a rival to SE7EN
Review: An Unbelievably disturbing movie that takes a while to get out of your head. It reveals a sickness in people u never imagined. The soundtrack is as effective as the movie itself getting into your mind making it hard to ever come back out. Although I did expect more of an emphasis on how Nick Cage's character was effected with what he sees but it is truly satisfying enuf. If u liked se7en , u will love this. It will give u a different perspective on life and the people around us living it. As some other reviewer pointed out, if this film doesnt get u disturbed, shocked or even sick then there is probably something really perverse wrong with u.

Summary: In My "10 MOVIES THAT I HATE" List
Review: This is probably the most grotesque movie I have ever seen, Joel Schumacher after destroying the Batman franchise with both of his installments came and destroyed my stomach with this thing. It's even worst and more grotesque than The Cell. Really, really bad, stay away.

Summary: Unsettling, but painfully honest
Review: Yes, I was deeply disturbed by "8mm," but, as one reviewer pointed out, that's the point! If you are not uncomfortable watching this movie, maybe you need to either examine your own mental state, or pay closer attention. Nicholas Cage (always impressive) plays a detective hired by a wealthy widow to investigate whether or not a "snuff" film found in her late husband's safe is fake, or "the real thing." His investigation takes him deep into the dark underbelly of society...a world filled with perverts, sickos, and possibly the most degenerate villain ever to grace the screen. A most vile fellow called "Machine," who kills because he "enjoys it." The only real disappointment in this film is that, although Machine meets a deserved end, it's almost too easy...he should have gotten much, much worse. Actually, to me, the most frightening aspect of this movie is how the man behind the mask is revealed to have a perfectly normal, unassuming, almost innocent face. "Were you expecting a monster?" He asks Nick Cage...Well, yeah! "8mm" is not for everyone, but don't assume that this is a blood-and-gore movie...there is very little blood, and the snuff film in question is barely visible to the viewer...Cage watches and wrenches for us. Rather, it is a very interesting and suspenseful psychological thriller...what you don't see is much more unnerving than what you do see. Had Hitchcock lived, he might have made this movie...with a bit more finesse, perhaps, but the master's influence is clear. You'll hate yourself for it, but you'll want to see it more than once.

Summary: tienes peliculas de snuff?
Review: this may be the worst movie i have ever been subjected to. its only positive function is to serve as a fine starting point whenever one compiles a list of the all time worst. while many people deride its "unsavory subject matter", i simply found said subjects boring. while no one can doubt the ferocity of nick cages awfulness his agents usually have the foresight to surround him with somewhat passable actors. for instance, in con air, that atrocity of a movie script was saved by interesting roles played by buscemi and malkovich, and they alone made it into the marginally acceptable offering that it is/was. could the supporting cast have been worse in this film? aside from a somewhat believeable joquian fenix, this cast was an affront to all learned beings. roughly half way through nick cages "emotional and dramatic" conversation with the snuffed girls mom, my parrot, who was in the room, opened the door to its cage and plummeted 8 feet to the tile floor. i completely understood its motivations, while not condoning its actions. while i was momentarily saddened by its untimely suicide, when that guy started tongueing the pistol at the end of the movie i realized the bird was in a better place. i do suggest to you rent this movie however so that you can once and for all realize how shockingly bad Cage is, then maybe people will quit supporting his movies and he will go back to working for UPS.

Summary: Great,great movie.
Review: This movie is deffinitely in my top ten of all time.Nicolas Cage is hired to investigate the making of a porn video but it just turns into so much more. The characters all just seem so real and believable, special effects are excellent, and has the most gripping story line in a movie since The Crow.I cant talk a lot about the storyline without giving something away, so i wont try to, but trust me its excellent and if you buy this movie you wont be dissapointed, efinitely watchable more than once.Action, suspense, you name it 8mm has it, and thsi is the best Cage has been in a movie i think.

Summary: "I know disturbed, I mean look at me"
Review: Although it's true that I watch this movie just for Joaquin Phoenix *His whole 5 scenes or so*, I thought the whole movie was cool. Nicolas Cage did a wonderful job, and the best part of his in the movie is when he comes home crying and saying "Save me", it showed how Max was finally right and it got to him, the way he was living... Joaquin did one of his best jobs in this movie, as the poor guy who works in a porno store... He sacrificed himself for a guy he hardly knew now thats cool!
