Review: This movie is one of the best I've seen. It is very original and worth seeing. Screw what all the stupid critics, 8mm may be a little disturbing but it was damn good. It is right up their with Se7en.

Summary: Know what you are seeing
Review: I thought that this film had a really good plot, Nicholas Cage and Joaquin Pheonix were both great and the cinematography was fairly good. However, all of this is unfortunately shadowed out by the disguesting subject matter. I honestly had no idea what a snuff film was when I went into the theatre. When I left (I walked out about halfway) I had a very good idea, to put it lightly. I'm sure that if you a) enjoy this type of violent pornography, or b) are desensitized to this type of violent pornography, then this is probably a good film. Basically, know this before you see it, because this is one of those movies (actually there aren't many)that you see and think, damn, how in the hell did that get an R rating? I found myself wondering this to myself many times throughout the film.

Summary: One of the better films of the last years.
Review: I know I won't make myself popular with this, but I think thismovie was even better than Seven. While in Seven the killer has onehell of a motive, in this movie you get to see the real motivation of people who act out these haineous crimes... because they CAN. They have no reason to explain their actions.I think this is the real crux of the film : The main person starts out as a good man, but during his research he starts hating the criminals. I also feel that the real reason this film was so generally hated in the US, is that it deals with the problem at hand in the US. People don't appreciate life anymore, especially lifes of the people they don't know. Probably this offended a lot of people. This movie however doesn't promote pornography or murder, but condems it in the best way it can, by showing it to you and the effect it has on people. Nicholas Cage is the finest actor of his generation. He has played in some pretty mediocre films, but he sure can act.

Summary: 8 MM Falls Short...
Review: Mr. Cage is a good actor ( it's a great distance from his role in Valley Girl). However, please Mr. Cage, the part where his character is watching the "snuff" film for the first time--talk about overacting or reacting;I was waiting for him to grab or clasp the ends of a coffee table and drop to his knees and cry, " Why her ?!" True, this type of "snuff" pornography would make the average normal person flinch. The subject matter is disturbing and may hit close to home for a lot of families of real life victims of any type of criminal sexual abuse. Yet, the close-up of Cage's reactions were so "staged": I've seen better facial expressions on a high school drama student's face in their first year of theatre arts. As for the story- ehhh ! Could have been better planned out with more reason as to why Cage's character was more than disturbed by the acts committed in the story; He did have a family in the movie to worry about ( his baby). The soundtrack with the middle-eastern ambience music didn't help either. Were they going for an exotic and foreign feel to the pornographic matter ? There's nothing exotic about pornography. The real surprise was Joaquin Phoenix( awesome talent). Maybe what his late brother River might have accomplished had he lived longer can now be realized and brought to full potential through Joaquin... This film along with Cage had good intentions but poor execution ( maybe a lack of direction from director Joel Schumacher).

Review: I'm all for freedom in art but with that freedom should come some responsibility. Do we really need to see the darkest side of porn? There really is no positive value in this movie. This is the kind of movie that people in Hollywood need to really question promoting. It amazes me that this is rated only R. This is a prime example of how the ratings system is totally meaningless and obviously politically motivated.

Summary: Worth your time
Review: At this age of 15, movies are really fun to see. I had just read Maury Terrrys book THE ULTIMATE EVIL, which talks about Son of Sam and a possible snuff film made of the final victim. The premise of this film intrigued me and sounded good. On top of that, I like Nick Cage's acting. I wasn't prepared for this disturbing yet wondeful film. I urge anyone with maturity to watch this since it has many important themes: porn is vile and disgusting and also the theme of when you fight monsters, be careful not to become one yourself. Be prepared for this and you won't regret it. This film will easily please fans of Se7en and The Game, both of which had really good twist endings. This is definitely Worth your time.

Summary: Great acting & very realistic.
Review: The fact that Nicholas Cage was the lead actor made me want to see this movie. It was much better than "Snake Eyes" which disappointed me since I expected much more from Brian DePalma. It was refreshing to see a person knowingly risk his life for another person, especially a stranger--I guess his conscience wouldn't let him give up on the case. Funny how we sometimes don't know people as well as we think we do, especially those close to us. That is sort of the subtheme of the movie. I would definitely recommend this movie to almost anyone who would appreciate a good story, directing and acting.

Review: Thank you for given us such a honest movie about all the bad things happining to a lot of young hopeful people coming to hollywood to find fame and fortune! And thank you for making the commentary track on of the best I have heard so for(And I have heard alot of these)This is up there with seven and the game commentary from criterion laserdisc with David Fincher and co. See this movie. IT will have an effect on you!

Summary: GET THE DVD
Review: I thought this was a fine film if only for the techical aspects including the shocking sets that were made for it. It is quite disturbing but does depict, apparently honestly, a real part of the deepest underworld of pornography. No soft core here with beautiful people and simulated sex. I strongly urge the serious viewer get the DVD which has Shumacher's director's commentary on all aspects of the film, including his motivation for making it. By the way, he says his mother liked it!
