Summary: If you can't trust your friends, well what then?
Review: This is an excellent movie. If you liked The Usual Suspects, then you'll love this movie. I've had a copy of it on DVD for atleast 2 years (the cover is different though). In any event, this is a GRADE "A" movie well worth the price. END

Summary: Lightweight but tons of fun to watch
Review: Scottish Yuppies? Ewan McGregor in lingerie and makeup? Like the attic of the gorgeous apartment inhabited by this crazy trio, the plot's full of holes, but it's illuminated by scattered rays of brilliance. More style than substance, this film is anchored by hilarious and spontaneous performances and you don't really mind that the suspense doesn't work and the ending is predictable. Director Boyle has given us a lovely piece of visual film art - something meant to be seen and enjoyed and not thought about too much

Summary: Boring, Lethargic, Unconvincing, Over-Hyped Rubbish
Review: I absolutely hated this film. I can see what all the fuss was about though. When a film brands itself "contraversial", "hip" and "different" it is bound to be popular even without proper scrutiny. For a start the plot is predictable and slow (McGregor, Fox and Eccleston spend ages interviewing and intimidating prospective new flatmates which is just unbelievably tedious) and all the characters in this film are deeply unpleasent, vicious people for whom I felt no sympathy. Add that to poor storyline development, an unconvincing and irritating affair between Fox's character and both male leads and you have a complete hour and a half of garbage.

Summary: Very, very shallow
Review: Director Danny Boyle and screenwriter John Hodge have proved that they make a great team on their others films like "A Life Less Ordinary" and "The Beach".

But, this first film of theirs -- a moody thriller about greed and mistrust -- completely misses the mark. I never found myself caring about any of the three main characters and I was quickly hoping that they would kill each other and end the movie.

Danny Boyle shows off his brilliant camerawork in this debut film, but the unfocused story seems to enjoy showing us just how gloomy the weather in Scotland is.

The camerawork and editing shows, once again, that director Boyle works well with restrictions and a small budget. But, this story is so poorly written that the film is difficult to enjoy.

Avoid this film, and check out the filmmakers other, better films.

Summary: Hitchcock-Bound
Review: 'Shallow Grave,' with Ewan McGregor, is the movie Danny Boyle made before he made 'Trainspotting.' This movie is nothing like 'Trainspotting.' Not even close. It's like Hitchcock. It's like 'Bound.' Actually, it's a lot like 'Bound.' No lesbians, though. It's about three British kids (two male, one female; the female played by the delicious Kerry Fox) who split the rent on an almost unbelievably spacious apartment and are looking for someone to make it a four-way split. Considering how they verbally abuse and torment everyone who comes to their door to interview for the room, it's obvious they're not really looking all that hard. Eventually, though, they do find the perfect 'flat-mate.' He moves in, locks himself in his room, and then... Well, that would be giving too much away. Highly recommended.

Summary: Interesting! Good!
Review: To bad we haven't heard much about this movie. I happened to see it on the Dutch television (am not sure if it was broadcast by the BBC or not, my mom had recorded it). This is one of those simply made, great solid movies. The setting is wonderful (I fell in love with the flat, great ambiance) and the story, ah well you should see for yourself (many other reviewers have already described much of the story). Watch this one!

Summary: Intense, Dark & Funny
Review: I found "Shallow Grave" much more palatable than "Trainspotting," which was made by the same folks. This movie really draws from the darker side of the human psyche to show how greed can make you do things you would never do otherwise. A good comparison would be "A Simple Plan," which had the same basic theme. The humor in this film helps to break up the tension, but the suspense keeps a grip on you until the very end. Though not completely original, I found it highly entertaining.

Summary: Pretty Good
Review: This movie was really dark and intense, and very well done. It had an interesting premise.

The only problems I had with it was that I didn't get the whole 'roomate-in-the-attic' deal, and although the end had a plot twist, I knew it would.

Summary: Twists and Turns
Review: Shallow Grave is a deceptively simple Scottish dark comedy. A gruesome murder yarn about paranoia spinning out of control, it takes its cue from the host of similarly plotted vehicles that run nightly on late-night television, but in this case it's good writing and stylish performances that save the day.

With Shallow Grave it's hard to see what's coming next, which is just as it should be. The laughs we get are nervous, stiffled. Director Danny Boyle keeps us anticipating but never quite guessing his next move. It's an odd little export, perfectly controlled and charged with edgy, homicidal vibrations.

Summary: What are you waiting for!!
Review: The story of three roommates whos lives are thrown into the situation we all dread. What would it take for a human to kill. This movie proves that greed is an overwhelming force in today's society. Buy this movie and be prepared to see how far three people will go to see who comes out on top. Fantastic plot with characters one can truly loath and love at the same time. I highly recommend this movie!!!
