Summary: Sinister and hilarious
Review: Sleepy Hollow is yet another chapter in Tim Burton's now overlong book of gothic films. While Sleepy Hollow does not exactly break any new ground for Burton it is less heavy handed and more sadistically funny than anything he's ever done.

Depp plays Ichobod Crane, a New York City investigator who's sent to the quiet town of Sleepy Hollow to discover why so many people are having their heads cut off. As the film unfolds Depp unravels a convoluded (and silly) plot that implacates some of the town's elite citizens with the headless horseman, the gentleman cutting off the heads, played by a constantly snarling Christopher Walken.

When you look back at this film a lot of it seems unoriginal and cliched. However there is an awful lot that is really great about this film which makes it hugely entertaining despite some of its obvious short-comings.

Sleepy Hollow is certainly one of the funniest movies of the year. Like the Fight Club it does not seem to care who it will offend and Tim Burton goes all out on the gory decapitation scenes. A lot of the jokes involve dead bodies including one hilarious scene where Depp does an autopsy and fumbles with the corpse. Depp's performance is also slyly excellent. He manages to play a character who is both an idiot and a genius at the same time and also someone the audience can laugh at and applaude in equal proportions. Christina Ricci is given a part that is small and forgettable but does a really good job with the material she is given.

As usual it is the cinematography and visuals that shine through, like in all of Burton's films. Right from the start the viewer is bombarded with beautiful, twisted gothic imagery that never lets up until the end. The best sequence of the whole film occurs at the very beginning where Depp travels from NY to Sleepy Hollow. As he travels you notice that the stunning countryside shots become more and more bleak with each moment.

Overall this is a very silly film. It is very entertaining and there are a lot of things to be praised about Sleepy Hollow. It certainly won't change your life but you will have a great time watching it.

Summary: Be Careful!
Review: Before you watch this movie, please have a heatry meal! After the show you won't be able to touch food for a week or so. I liked Miranda Richardson, but she could've done without that wig. The cast is excellent. The faces are most unusual.

Summary: WIDE AWAKE FOR SLEEPY HOLLOW
Review: King Burton has done it again! Sleepy Hollow is a tremendous eclectation of what today's special effects can accompish, and what Tim Burton's (one brick shy of a building) brain can concieve. Together with the greatest movie composer of all time Danny Elfman (credits include: Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands, and even the Simpsons theme to name a few) they create a haunting visual that, for a lack of a better vocab, is just creepy. And for the action lovers the headless horseman does not dissapoint. Displaying magnificant stunt work from Darth Maul himself. Yes Ricci's character could have used some tweeking, and around the end it gets a tad slow, but when the credits role I guarantee you will leave all that behind. The translation from theatre might lose some egde unless your home surrond sound system is up to code. When you hear the clop, clop, clop of the horseman pierce that eerie music it's nothing short of chilling. Washington Irving himself would have been proud to see how his brainchild has been brought up. An excellent choice.AND THAT'S OFFICIAL...

Summary: TIM BURTON'S DARK MASTERPEACE
Review: Dark as hell and trueley spellbounding peace of cinema, this film captovates it's whatcher's to the very end. Icubod Crain is played very well by Depp playing a detective way over his head in unnormal goings on in the small town he visits. Christina Ricci is also grate as Depp's' love intrest. But the person who realy steels the screen is the headless hourseman played by a truley ugly looking Christopher Walken whith a hair cut strait from hell itself. All suporting cast are grate and the costumes and sets are out of this world, this is truley one of Burtons best to date. Can't wait to get the DVD and see whats next from Tim.

Summary: Burton strikes again!
Review: After a several year absence from movie theaters, Tim Burton struck gold with his adaptation with Sleepy Hollow. Not only did it include fantastic music by master Danny Elfman, but it also provided spectacular imagery.

Burton's adaptation of the Washington Irving tale is an instant haunting masterpiece. It provides suspense, a little bit of humor, and a few shocks along the way. It takes viewers into the little burg of Sleepy Hollow, where a headless horseman seems to be on the rampage. Ichabod Crane (this is where the story-line really deviates from Irving's tale) is dispatched from New York City to investigate the murders. Burton's creative mixing of science and classic American literature is phenomenal.

Furthermore, Depp is astounding as Ichabod Crane. He brings a "spookiness" to the role, while still retaining the overall timidness of the character. Ricci too brings an edge to her role that is desperately needed to make the concept work on film. Not to mention a delightful appearance by horror film veteran Christopher Lee.

The dark scenes, the haunting music, and the driving story line make Sleepy Hollow a movie worth seeing and owning.

Summary: Not your classic horror movie...
Review: I'm not a huge horror movie fan. I'm not even a fan of movies satirizing horror movies (i.e. The Scream series was probably one of the biggest wastes of film resources), but I must say, Sleepy Hollow was scary in a funny way. This movie isn't SUPPOSED to be scary at all. Yes, the idea of a "horseman...without a head" is supposed to be a little spooky, but that is not the intended purpose of the film. IF you want the scary version, watch the animated Sleepy Hollow by Disney. Burton does an AMAZING job with the visual and sound effects. Johnny has come a long way since 21 Jumpstreet (not that he was bad then, either). I think he did a superb job interpreting Ichabod Crane (a regular wimp trying to impress a girl is always one of the funniest things to observe. I know because people tell me I look funny when I try to impress the ladies...) Don't get me wrong, the movie has it's points that will make you jump and cringe, but not enough to earn--and I'm glad it didn't--a seat in the horror movie section. I'd love to see it either in the suspense or comedy sections. The movie is one of the best movies Burton has come out with since Beatlejuice and Batman. Burton is back, and he's kicking some butt and "taking some heads!" Now if he would come back to Batman and fix the mess Schumacher created...
