Summary: Dark, fantastical and entralling
Review: Sleepy Hollow is an awesome movie. Its dark and yet it seems to have a hidden humor about it (mostly thanks to the talented Johnny Depp) Johnny Depp, as in all of his work, protrays his part perfectly. The is not only scary, but also magical and a little romantic. And the costumes are beautiful! Especially the Stripped dress shown in the last scene!

Summary: My Favorite Horror Movie
Review: "Sleepy Hollow" is without a doubt one of the best pieces of work Tim Burton has contributed to American Cinema. No horror fans should miss it. Burton takes scary movies to a whole new level, weaving his own morsels of fantasy, detail, and mystery into the story.
His movie is based upon Washington Irving's classic tale, "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow." I cannot go without voicing the undeniable statement that Burton butchers the original story as many times as the the villain, the Headless Horseman, chops off his victims' heads. But that's alright. Irving's story, while considered a classic by some, is too short and too childish to be made into a full-length horror film.
The only thing that stays the same between the book and the movie is the setting, which is the small village of Sleepy Hollow during the late 1790's, and the characters. There is Ichabod Crane (Johnny Depp), a New York City constable who is sent to Sleepy Hollow to investigate three murders with his new scientific detection processes. While in Sleepy Hollow, he resides as a guest in the home of Baltus Van Tassel (Michael Gambon), the richest and most poular man in the village, now that one of his wealthy relatives is among the three deceased.
Also living in the house is Lady Van Tassel, played wonderfully by Miranda Richardson, and Baltus's beautiful daughter, Katrina (Christina Ricci).
It is not very long before Ichabod realizes mysterious things about Sleepy Hollow, which all happen to be Burton's superb additions to the story, my favorite of which being the Tree of the Dead, which has vibrantly red blood in place of sap. He also notices Katrina's secret practice of magic, which he is accustomed to because of past events revolving around his mother and father. He also begins to realize, with us by his side, that the things the town has told him about the Headless Horseman are true, and that another villain, with much more power than the Horseman, could be lurking amonst the villagers.
I do have to mention the gore factor in this movie. The second time I saw it, I numbered the body count, and I found about 18 deaths, not counting a flashback centering around a war-like situation in which others are killed but are shadowed or hidden behind other people. Out of those 18 deaths, 15 of them resulted in beheading, and we either see the heads being chopped off, rolling away, or the inside of the person's neck for 13 or 14 of those characters. However, if you do not like gore, you can still watch. I'm not trying to be inhumane, but the simple fact runs that once you see the first two decapitations, you get used to the sight and it doesn't bother you anymore after that. The gore isn't there to scare like it is in most films; it's only there because it has to be.
If you ever get an opportunity to watch this movie, make sure you do so. Better yet, buy it. It is definitely worth your time and money. Even if you don't like scary movies, close your eyes when you want and watch the rest just to see the beautiful scenery, because this is the most gorgeous eye-candy to be made yet. It is one of my favorite horror films, even better that "Rosemary's Baby," "Final Destination," and "The Exorcist."
You will not be disapointed.

Summary: Heads,Laughs, and Jumps
Review: Sleepy Hollow was a delightful version by Tim Burton. Johnny Depp is Incabob Crane, and i must say a very funny version of him. I didnt find the movie to be terrible scary, more of a movie to enjoy for the little jumps and humor, along with the handsome Johnny! In the movie the the story is a little different, such as how the headless horseman came to be and that he can go anywhere not just staying on the one side of the bridge. I highly recommend the movie for ATLEAST a one time viewing!
I ALSO RECOMMEND EDWARD SCISSORHANDS!!

Summary: Sleepy Hollow
Review: "Sleepy Hollow" is a throw back to the old Hammer Studio gothic horror movies. It is erie, very atmospheric (man, those woods looks haunted and spooky), with an intellegent mystery at it's core. Based loosly on Washington Irving's "Legend of Sleepy Hollow", Icabob Vrane (Johnny Depp) is a NYC police officer, (cira 1799 AD) and is sent to a small town in upper state New York to investigate some murders. He quickly falls in love with Christina Ricci. Then the Headsman (cool Christopher Walken) then begins gunnign for Crane. This movie is so cool, and for it's subject matter, the violence isn't as gory as you might think. You will like this, if horror is your thing.

Summary: one of my favorites...
Review: One of my favorite horror movies, and I strongly reccomend purchasing it.

Ichabod (Johnny Depp) is a New York City detective whose unorthodox techniques and penchant for gadgets make him unpopular with is colleagues. He is sent to the remote town of Sleepy Hollow to investigate a series of bizarre murders, in which a number of people have been found dead in the woods, with their heads cut off. Local legend has it that a Hessian ghost rides through the woods on horseback, lopping off the heads of the unsuspecting and unbelieving. Ichabod refuses to believe in this legend, convinced that there must be a logical explanation for the murders. In time, Ichabod becomes smitten with a local lass, Katrina Van Tassel (Christina Ricci), who is the sweetheart of the burly Brom Bones (Casper Van Dien), and he becomes determined to capture the murderer to prove his bravery and win her heart. Christopher Walken, Jeffrey Jones, and Christopher Lee highlight the supporting cast; Lee's appearance is particularly apt, since Burton has cited the Hammer films of the 1960s as a major influence in making this film. Andrew Kevin Walker and Tom Stoppard contributed to the screenplay.

Summary: Burton Puts His Own, Unique Stamp on The Classic Legend
Review: As he did with Batman and Planet of the Apes (and is reportedly doing with Charlie and the Chocolate Factory) Tim Burton has taken a classic story and placed his own unique stamp on it. The atmosphere and sets are classic Burton, especially the gnarled and nightmarish trees that surround and define an important part of the collective psyche of Sleepy Hollow.

Johnny Depp (as Constable Ichabod Crane) displays his skill at portraying a character who is both humorous and earnest in this adaptation, applying Burton's concept of 19th century forensic equipment to the task of uncovering the origin of the mysterious circumstances that are causing people to lose their heads in the small village...literally.

For the most part, the supporting cast is also marvelous, from the voluptuous Christina Ricci to Miranda Richardson to Christopher Lee and Ian McDiarmid, just to name a few.

The only person who seems miscast in this Burton fable is Christopher Walken as the Hessian Horseman. Come on, Mr. Burton, just because you have given Walken pointy prosthetic teeth and the ability to ride his supernatural steed out of a gnarled old tree, are we supposed to be frightened? The only thing frightening about Walken is his general lack of acting ability. Then again, Mr. Burton has always approached macabre subject matter with a dark sense of humor, so perhaps this casting is intended to be as tongue-in-cheek as the "scientific instruments" that Depp's Ichabod uses to practice his detective work.

If one went into the film not knowing that it was a Burton creation, one might come out of the film scratching one's head over the visual treatment of the story. Since Burton has trained the viewer to expect a slightly exaggerated and off-beat style, however, the look and feel of the film should not come as a great surprise to anyone who is familiar with Burton's previous work. In fact, for the most part, Burton shows great restraint in crafting most of the characters to be unusual, but not as over-the-top as, for example, his characters in Mars Attacks!

Best watched around Halloween, Sleepy Hollow is an entertaining ride through a "nightmare" with a distinctly Burton-esque feel.

Summary: Excellent movie!
Review: Set in 1799, an investigator named " Ichabod Crane" ( Johnny Depp) heads from New York City to a town called "Sleepy Hollow" to investigate bizarre murders conducted by a mysterious foe. During his stay, he falls in love with the beautiful Katrina ( Christina Ricci) and finds out the murders have been conducted by the Headless Horseman.
A brilliant re-creation of Washington Irving's classic fable all thanks to the talent of Tim Burton. The supporting cast was great as well with Casper Van Dien ( from "Starship Troopers"), Christopher Lee, Christopher Walken, Jeffery Jones from " Beetlejuice", and Michael Gambon from " Harry Potter". The music score is quite enchating by Danny Elfman and the settings are visually stunning including the gore by Kevin Yaghner.
I highly recommend this movie for anyone who needs a good entertaining scare.

Summary: NOT A SLEEPER
Review: This wonderful movie has then perfect cast and plot. Johnny Depp is brilliant as the main character, the scenes are beautiful and even the heads getting cut off are somewhat artistic. Tim Burton has perfect timing. The music by Danny Elfman goes perfectly with the dark scenery. The movie is about a man who is sentenced to go to Sleepy Hollow, where there is a mass-murderer without a head, who chops people's heads off and stores them in a tree. A must-see!
Rated R (Gory, bloody violence, suspense)

Summary: Excellent Readaptation
Review: In 1799, New York City Constable Ichabod Crane (Johnny Depp) is sent to Sleepy Hollow to solve the decapitation murders of three of its residents. Crane uses methods of scientific detection scoffed at by his superiors. Sending him to Sleepy Hollow is a way of getting him out of their hair. He takes on an apprentice, Masbeth the son of one of the murdered men and falls in love with his employer's daughter Katrina Van Tassel (Christina Ricci). He soon discovers that the murder is a Hessian soldier (Christopher Walken) killed in 1779 during the Revolutionary War, who has been resurrected by a witch who controls him because she possesses his skull.

Sleepy Hollow was filmed with the look of an old black and white horror movie with muted colors and shading. The effect really sets a terrifying mood. Tim Burton is a master! The acting is top notch. Christopher Walken gives a tour de force performance as the headless horseman, using his body in a dramatically physical way to convey his emotions. Johnny Depp has some great facial reactions bringing the character of the cowardly constable into the full color of life. Christina Ricci is wonderful in her role as the lord of the manor's daughter. Martin Landau (Peter Van Garrett) of Space 1999 fame makes a cameo appearance.

The one criticism I have is that the Hessian should been wearing a German uniform instead of that stylized boggyman get-up, at least in the scene where he is hunted down by American troops.

This is an excellent readaptation of the classic Washington Irving tale definitely add it to your film library!
