Summary: Visually appealing but let down somewhere in the line
Review: Well first of all the art direction of this film is marvellous.there's not a single ray of sunlight in the movie ..every scene has a dark & cloudy look which just adds to the excitement .and a good story on which this film has been based upon .the only flaw seems to be the ending which has been rushed into its conclusion . the secret is revealed in a matter of fact way .and the reason for the witchcraft seems cliched .maybe some kind of a flashback scene would have helped .
but overall a fine movie with good performances by johnny depp & the boy .

Summary: The headless horseman rides again
Review: Director Tim Burton does justice to the "Legend of Sleepy Hollow" novel by Washington Irving. Johnny Depp plays Icabod Crane, who is asked to investigate a series of brutal murders, reluctantly he goes to the town of Sleepy Hollow to solve the crimes. Once he arrives, he is confronted by a town filled with secrets, lies, and treachery. There are fine performances from Christina Ricci and Miranda Richardson. Whenever Depp is being directed by Burton, he always does some of his best.work. Burton, given the right material is a true creative force, the film has many Burton touches and unique imagery. I think this movie is better than his "reimagined" version of the PLANET OF THE APES, which suffers from a bad script and miscasting, that was a real downer for me. The only complaint I have about this film, is the fact that it all but ignores the triangle between, Crane, Katrina (Ricci), and Braum (Casper Van Dien) The other aspects, sets, music, costumes, and minimal use of special effects are blended together to create a good film that should have been better received by the masses

The DVD edition has a good commentary track from Burton, a behind the scenes featurette, and a photo gallery. All of this is pretty average stuff. I think the DVD should have had a better presentation too. Having said that, the film itself is still the disc's best feature. An underated gem.

Summary: Excellent movie and DVD!
Review: This was a really cool flick! It actually was kind of creepy. The acting by Depp,Walken,Jones, Ricci was all great, and of course Burton's unique style of directing made for a visually stunning film as well. The DVD had all the cool extras that I like, such as the making of the film, which incedentally I found mindblowing to learn that they actually designed each tree that you see in the western woods individually. Ths story is obviously about the headless horseman. It shows his origens, I won't give away the ending, just see it for yourself!

Summary: VERY BEAUTIFUL MOVIE
Review: THIS MOVIE IS BEAUTIFUL! IT IS A "HORROR" MOVIE, BUT IT IS STUNNINGLY BEAUTIFUL. THE DIRECTION IS GREAT AND MOST OF THE ACTORS DO A GREAT JOB (SORRY, NOT RICCI'S BEST WORK). DEPP SHINES IN THE ROLE, AS USUAL. IT IS NOT TERRIBLY GORY BUT SUSPENSEFUL NONETHELESS. BURTON ROCKS. IT IS JUST THAT SIMPLE. THE DVD IS GREAT, AND I ESPECIALLY ENJOYED THE BEHIND THE SCENES LEGEND FEATURETTE.

Summary: Heads WILL roll!
Review: I gave this four stars because it's not perfect, but is enjoyable. I've seen this movie many times and it's kind of loosing it's charm but my sister doesn't seem to grow tired of it so I decided to give it four stars. The atmospere sure is murky, which is expected with Tim Burton as the director, but fits in with the whole headless horesman thing. This movie can be creepy for younger audiences. For example, numerous times you will see heads being severed and then roll across the screen or Johnny Depp hacking at a tree with blood and decaying heads hidden within. But give it a look. If you like it I reccommend purchasing the DVD for the special features which include: 2 theatrical trailers, exclusive cast and crew interviews, exclusive "Behind the Legend" featurette, Commentary with director Tim Burton, selected cast biographies, and photo gallery. Overall this is an enjoyable and mysterious movie with an eerie atmosphere to add flavor!

Summary: great sleepy hollow movie [4.5]
Review: I really enjoyed this movie. Johnny Depp does a wonderful job, as always. Tim burton's genius and the music by Danny Elfman, [both of which did the nightmare before christmas movie], brings the story to life. the gore, i thought was preatty cool. And the plot line between the characters was creative, although sometimes confusing. I recommend this movie very much. And for those people who say that the french credits were the best part, you should get a life, because obviously you don't know a good movie, from a stupid one. Tim Burton is wonderful as are the characters, and, if I'm not mistaken, I don't see you making or acting in movies. Although, this is only my opinion.

Summary: Great!
Review: I loved the fantastic worlds that Tim Burton creates and this DVD allows us to see how he creates them. Great film, great DVD.

Summary: highlight of the movie is the copyright notice in French
Review: Trash film usurps title. People that like this film seem to come from a group that have only seen ersatz films such as the new Mummy have nothing of real movie value to compare them to. This must also be a group that has never seen a live play or an old German film.

The filmmakers attempted to capture a cross between Nosfaratu. It may have worked in 1920 however the film is to clear and sharp. It comes off looking more like a cross between a cartoon and a graphics ad.

The actors outweighed the characters and looked like they were reading the script. I could swear that some were watching the teleprompter. And who's idea was it to cut up a three day old corps to get covered in blood that if was any, had lone ago coagulated? I could go on with quite a few examples. But you get the idea. This should be helpful even if you liked the movie.

If you are driving by a place that rents this DVD, stay in the car!

Summary: Lame
Review: Christopher Walken is good but everything else (except the cinematography) (is bad). Ricci seems to serve no purpose except to hold up her wig. The screenplay is disjointed and pointless.

Summary: It's not just the heads on a roll!
Review: "I made this movie for 12-year olds, because these are the kinds of movies I used to love when I was twelve," says Director Tim Burton.

To get started- this film took me in a completely different direction than I'd assumed I'd be going. Then it struck me; this is Tim Burton! He's as unique and stylish as directors get. Along the film, I noticed the color was off as if the movie were black and white, but having shades of color. It wasn't my TV. He sets the tone for a darkened classic-feeling mystery thriller. Alfred Hitchcock (if he were still alive) would be amazed. A director who seems so opposite in filmmaking is Steven Spielberg. Spielberg wants to build suspense before jumping into the big bagje- like in JAWS or E.T. He builds up our excitment to see the big effect. Tim Burton on the other hand- is genius. He doesn't want his audience saying "Come on! Hurry up! Let's get going!" He jumps right on the wagon with the Headless Horseman. Heads start rolling immediately. It's just his style. In BATMAN, he opened the movie with Batman taking out the trash immediately. Take Spielberg and SAVING PRIVATE RYAN. He took ten through fifteen minutes of elderly Ryan sitting at Hanks' gravestone and staring at the flag before we got to the war. Burton wants you to get a slice of dessert before you get the meal deal. It's interesting when you look at similar directors who start off with the big boom and get the audiences' blood running instead of dragging out this whole process of building their anticipation. (George Lucas "Star Wars", James Cameron "Terminator 2", "True Lies")

At one point in the opening scene of SLEEPY HOLLOW, I questioned whether Barry Soneifeld and Burton collided for a similar sequence in the beginning of both their '99 films (Barry's being WILD WILD WEST). Two old guys going along their way, and all of a sudden they're running for their lives, but the blade ends up catching up with them and off goes the head. Though the films are entirely different in story and genre, it is interesting how similar their opening scenes are. (Except it is a flying disk in WILD WILD WEST that cuts the man's head off)

Johnny Depp plays an interesting murder investigator for the recent kills in Sleepy Hollow. His name is Ichabod Crane, a man who's determined to piece together the logical pieces of the everyday crime saga that lurks his world of work. To him, it's just like figuring out how to break a pencil. Yet, he soon learns that these head choppings are done by a force more evil than a psycho. He may have come from hell. He may just be the Headless Horseman. Crane teams with a young boy in hope of solving the crime before the final target of the Horseman is taken out.

Christopher Walken, Christina Ricci and Casper Van Dien co-star. Francis Ford Coppola also produces the film.

What is so fun about this movie is that is carries every aspect of film you need. Whether in the movie you want good visuals, frightening sequences, interesting plot, strong performances, excellent art direction, comedy, action, suspense, drama, horror, and mystery- you have it one way or another. When painting a picture that's going to stand out among other bright colored pieces- you'd probably want to use all the colors you can. SLEEPY HOLLOW does it all.

This "astonishing film" is fun and freakily mysterious. It is toned specifically for a unique ride. Tim Burton is a master of originality. Everything works in the film. Though Tim Burton wanted 12-year olds to enjoy this movie, I doubt that this "R" rated movie will reach too many adolescent eyes, while instead it will be rocking the worlds of every other viewer watching it. Take my word for it: "everything is on a roll for this film". SLEEPY HOLLOW is definetely the perfect film for a fun night.
