Summary: A chilling tale of obsession and terror!
Review: Writer Paul Sheldon receives injuries in a car accident, but is soon rescued by his claimed No.1 fan, Annie Wilkes. Taking him under her care, Annie's caring nature suddenly turns into violent rage when she demands that he write his latest book according to her wishes. The intensity rises and rises as Sheldon tries desperately to find a way out of his situation, as well as the fact that investigators are wondering where he has disappeared to so suddenly. First and foremost, the movie must be commended on one thing: its striking resemblance to the plot of the novel. The film has captured all the intensity and suspense King wished to convey and so much more. Another commendable aspect of the movie are its two lead actors. Caan gives a very notable performance, but it is Bates who fills the screen with the true terror of the film, and her performance won a much-deserved Oscar. The suspense of this film never stops moving, and one will soon find themself totally immersed in the plot from beginning to end. Not to be missed, Misery will chill you on a cold night in the dark.

Summary: CLASSIC THRILLER!
Review: Based on the darkly humorous thriller novel by Stephen King,this film is succesfully adapted to the screen, thanks mainly to the powerful and often frightening performance by KATHY BATES (who incidentally won an oscar for Best Actress for her role in this) as the psychotic and obsessed fan of novelist, Paul sheldon who is equally brilliantly played by JAMES CAAN. The film has many edge-of-the-seat moments... Thrillers don't come much better than this and this now is a fine classic. Lauren Bacall is also seen here in a brief cameo role as Sheldons' agent.

Review: I saw this film recently and loved it. The acting is great and the plot is suspenseful and often chilling. Kathy Bates gives a convincing performance as the obsessed fan of writer James Caans romantic novels. She rescues him from a car accident and looks after him. But when he tells her he plans to kill off his fictional character 'Misery', Bates changes from caring nurse to complete "crazy bitch". One of Stephen Kings more successful adaptations.

Review: Kathy Bates carried this whole movie through. It is not your best movie as far as horrifying is concerned. But the suspense is high!!!Pros: 1. Kathy Bates acting ability at it's best. 2. Scenery of the movie. 3. Plot is excellent. 4. The suspense. Cons: 1. None.

Summary: Terror as only King can deliver!
Review: Who'd have thought director Rob Reiner could scare the living daylights out of an audience? Thanks to Stephen King's brilliant writing and performances by Kathy Bates and James Caan that will rip you out of your seat, this film is a horrific adventure into the mind of a psycho literary fan! It's all too real to see the adoration Annie shows Paul; after all, she is "his number one fan" and then watch how her "love" turns to control, manipulation, terror, and ultimately, tragic violence. Kathy Bates was not a well-known actress before this film was released, but her portrayal here won her an Academy Award and put her on the A-List of leading ladies, and quite deservedly so. Her face can evoke both tender sympathy and vile disgust at the same time, a skill that not many one-dimensional actors can pull off these days! James Caan is superb no matter what he does, so this film is a perfect fit for ALL the talents involved, from King and Reiner to the talented co-stars. This is one for your video library!

Summary: I AM KATHY BATES' #1 FAN!
Review: I became KATHY BATES' #1 FAN back in December of 1991 when I saw Misery for the first time on Showtime. I can just kick myself for not going to see it on the "big screen"! I was watching on Oscar night in 1991 and saw her get her award for Best Actress. I had never seen her before and really loved her speech. So I made it a point to be sure and watch Misery as soon as it hit cable. During that month I watched it several times. Kathy's performance is what I liked best about the movie. I really loved the dark humor, the silly words Annie Wilkes said such as "oogie" and "cockadoodie" and the mood swings from happy to mad, mad to happy and the line "Did I do good?" And telling him that she loved him after she hobbled him with the sledgehammer. Kathy's character had many faces too. She looked different as the scenes changed. For example, the difference in her look when Annie and Paul had dinner together and then later on when it was raining and Annie was in her robe at Paul's door. Boy, what a change! Misery will always be my favorite Kathy Bates' movie. Of course, with any movie she is in, the more scenes she has, the better I like the movie. Most of the posters I have of Kathy are video prints I took of Misery and studio shots that Castlerock gave me. My favorite ones are the video prints of the close up of Annie holding the sledgehammer up to her face before she does "her thing" (and have also used the same picture on my holiday greeting cards that say "Peace On Earth" "Love, Kathy Bates' #1 Fan") and the close up of her where she tells him, "If I die, you die!" and the close up of Annie as she is showing Paul the stuff she got him to write his new Misery book with where she says smiling "Did I do good?" and the close up when Paul mentions about the paper smudging where she's not smiling anymore. I always laugh at that part especially when she slams the ream of paper on his legs when she calls him "Mr. Man!" And as a previous review had stated which I definitely agree with is that KATHY BATES WAS BORN TO PLAY THE PART OF ANNIE WILKES! A part that was well deserving of a Golden Globe and an Oscar! And as long as I live, I will ALWAYS BE KATHY BATES' #1 FAN..........

Summary: Excellent Movie
Review: This is one of the best movies I have seen in my life. It is very intense and for anyone who likes Drama movies THIS ONE IS FOR YOU. Kathy Bates plays Annie Wilks and meets her favorite Author who was in a wreck and she saved his life and brought him to her home. He gets better each day and finally Annie decides she wants him to stay. I highly recommend this movie for mature viewers and once you finally see this Masterpiece you might understand what I mean when I say "She wants him to stay".

Review: "Misery" is an all-out edge-of-your-seat suspense rollercoaster. In this classic adaption of the Stephen King bestseller, we come across Paul Sheldon, a famed writer of romance novels. Paul's most famous character, Misery Chastain, is one that he sincerely hates. He is tired of writing the Misery novels, and in the eight one, he decides to kill her off. After finishing his new untitled novel at a Colorado lodge, he heads out on the winding Colorado road that will soon take him to New York. While unable to see through the thick blanket of snow on the front of his car, his Ford Mustang spins off the road, sending Paul to his presumed death. However, a middle-aged woman named Annie Wilkes sees Paul's car on the side of the road and brings him back to her farm. But little does Paul know that the fate ahead of him may be worse than death... Kathy Bates gives the performance of a lifetime as the unforgettable Annie Wilkes, and James Cahn gives an equally strong performance. One of the best Stephen King adaptions to date, "Misery" is a film that you will not soon forget. Highly recommended!

Review: Brilliant. Great screenplay by William Goldman. And of course KATHY BATES gives a terrific performance! I don't think there's any other actress out there that would have done a better job as the 'number-one-fan,' Annie Wilkes. And I prefer the movie ending to the book's -- much more effective. I recommend both the movie and the book -- they're both fantastic.
