Summary: Excessive heads popping off
Review: This movie really wasn't that scary. If anything, the music being played and the sound effects made you jump. I thought it was more funny and cheesy than anything else. Seemed like someone was losing their head every few minutes, and the way it was done was kind of lame. This movie is a rental, not a buy.

Summary: Burton's Best
Review: Director Tim Burton has directed many a fantastical lyrical fantasy, among his best are "Batman," "Edward Scissorhands," "Vincent," and "Mars Attacks!" "Sleepy Hollow," however, outclasses these all in heart, pacing, character development (excluding Christina Ricci's passable but utterly forgettable female lead, that is), spirit, mood, and something called (in these days of overly-glossy melodrama like "Star Wars Episode 1," "Tarzan," and, sadly, "The World is Not Enough"--Bond 19) movie magic. This is a film for the ages. Considering the critical and box office responses (netting over $200 million), expect a sequel to this heartfelt masterpiece!

Summary: One of Burton's best
Review: Unquestionably one of Tim Burton's best films to date. Burton is, of course, the greatest living film director, and Sleepy Hollow lives up to his standard of beautiful film making. If you havn't seen this film, you have no business watching movies. Burton is the God of film making.

Summary: Heads off
Review: The darkness of a Tim Burton movie always appeals to me. As does the darkness of any Christopher Walken character. My favorite part of the movie is when the headless horseman would leap out of the tree. As for Johnny Depp well, he fits sad and questioning characters and I like to see him work with Christopher Walken and in Tim Burton movies, it just fits.

Summary: STYLISH
Review: Tim Burton never disappoints when it comes to visual power - he gets that spooky place in your heart and mind precisely the way you want it. Though major - and sometimes crazy - liberties are taken with the original legend, this movie surely delivers a rush of spooky delights, and Johnny Depp, in a mannered and winning performances, is delightful. The charging horses through the fog of an impossibly scary/beautiful forest make your heart pound, though the movie is not as memorable as some other Burton creations (Nightmare/Christmas; Edward Scissorhands). Definitely not for the faint of heart, and certainly not for the youngsters -- the gore is in your face; and given the storyline, there are many, many beheadings, all done with the amplified sound effects of a sharp blade slashing through the base of one's skull.

Summary: Tim Burton is my idol!
Review: This is a pure Tim Burton movie. Everything you come to expect from him & more.

The first thing I noticed when I saw this in theatres was the BEAUtiful cinamatography. Every frame of every scene was P-E-R-F-E-C-Tly composed. From the beginning the movie starts off thrilling, then it gets even more interesting. I was a tiny bit dissapointed in the end - the story just basically tries to explain itself in a few minutes. I love the muted look of the whole movie with red being the strong color enhancing all that blood :)

The soundtrack is OK for a Danny Elfman score. I didn't notice a very strong theme throughout the movie (but buy the soundtrack anyway).

I wished there were a few things different for this movie though: Natalie Portman should have played the love interest, Christina Rici does a fine job but she just doesn't look right for the part. The DVD cover - horrible! Well, not that great. I wished they had used the Teaser Poster (the one with the Horseman against a Moon with the Tree of the Dead in the background) It's a good thing that poster already hangs on my walls, and I can look at it anytime.

I highly recommend this DVD! Plus ALL of Tim Burton's movies.

Summary: Rich In Art, Great Storytelling.
Review: "Sleepy Hollow" could be called the best film by Tim Burton, it shows him moving up in the world from the "Batman," "Mars Attacks!" stuff which was good, but this is better. "Sleepy Hollow" is visually hypnotic and frighteningly fun. It works best as an art film, filled with so much richness in set design, costume design and cinematography. Burton takes us into his own little world here, and it's a great experience. The screenplay by Andrew Kevin Walker (Seven, 8MM) is in the tradition of great storytelling, filled with entertaining characters and ridiculous situations of gothic fantasy that never keep us from being entertained or from having a good time. I do not condone it's R rating and would take a kid to see this movie. It's great, visual storytelling that at some points has the feeling of classic cinema. "Sleepy Hollow" is a rich, dazzling work of the imagination. A great blend of creativity with storytelling. Burton's true masterpiece in atmosphere and art.

Summary: Beautiful and Haunting but flawed
Review: This film was very very cool. It was a completley immersive movie that put you in Sleepy Hollow, and gave you haunting scenery to enjoy. Tim Burton is thankfully at the top of his game, for the first time since Batman Returns, and showcasing fine actors. Johnny Depp is funny and completley lovable as Ichabod, and Christinia Ricci is hypnotic as Katrina Van Tassel. The film suffers however from two things, a sometimes weak screenplay that sometimes does not stick to the original story where it should (those who've seen the picture and read the story know what we were expecting at the end), and Tim Burtons egotistic desire to put his girlfriend (Lisa Marie) in the movie for ten minutes too long in a completley tangential role revealing nothing about characters or plot or motives. Beside those two points (which after watching the engrossing film, one tends to forget about) you will find Sleepy hollow to be a remarkable experience.

Summary: Corny, Boring, and Laughable
Review: How is it possible that all these people consider this to be a good movie? Me and my friends spent most of the movie laughing at the pitful plot line or special effects. It created a decent atmosphere, but the unrealistic events (exploding windmill, one handed severed head catch, etc) made this flick just plain stupid.

Summary: Once Again, Tim Burton Delivers An Imaginative Masterpiece!
Review: I just got done watching my DVD copy of this film, not having seen it at all when it was in theaters, and I must say, this was, by far, one of Tim Burton's best films since Edward Scissorhands. How ironic that it would have the same star, Johnny Depp. Depp was excellent in the role of Ichabod Crane. You never would have guessed that he could carry comedy as well as drama and horror in the same film. Tim Burton is a master at this type of film. I hope he does more collaborations in the future with Depp and the enchanting, Miss Ricci. She is absolutely stunning in this film. She makes this film worth seeing over and over again. Do yourself a favor...give it a rental at your local video/DVD store and I promise you'll enjoy it. Word of caution: this film is not for the squeamish. Don't watch it after eating pasta or something, though it is worth watching with popcorn. I know, it seems strange that I would say not to eat one thing, but instead another. You'll understand when you start watching it. Have fun!
