Rating: Summary: Great fun Review: I love this movie. Just love the whole atmosphere. I'll buy it sometime, too. It probably shouldnt be classified as a horror movie, since it is not scary, just creepy (dont worry, it was meant to be that way). The opening sets the mood for the rest of the movie, a surreal journey of awe and nightmares. The thing I especially like about this is when the horseman decapitates someone, its done tastefully (that may sound a little strange, but you'd have to see it to know what i mean). Theres no blood spurting hundreds of feet up in the air like a firehose, but the cool effects of a cut and dry head, without all the mess. The mystery element of this story is a little muddled, but if you understand it, it is kinda clever. And though you know exactly whats gonna happen in the end, you're not ready for the horseman chase through the burning windmill, the carriage chase on top of it, and the final showdown at the tree of death? is that its name? oh well. rent this movie, you artistic people. You shall enjoy.
Rating: Summary: Great as a Burton film. Not so good as a Sleepy Hollow film Review: The main reason I saw this is because I'm a Tim Burton fan. I'm also a little bit of a Johnny Depp fan. When they get together, they make a great team (hence Edward Scissorhands). This was a great movie because of these two guys and it was a creepier version of the classic tale. But one thing really got to me. The ending was dramatically changed. Remember the old stories where the Headless Horseman is deafeated when Ichabod tricks him into going over the bridge? In this movie he is defeated in a much different way. There are also other things that were changed, but they don't bother me. Also, I know a little bit about medical stuff (I took Health and my mom is a phlebotomist). So I know that it wasn't right when blood spurted out of the dead woman when Ichabod operated on her a couple of days after death.
Rating: Summary: Heads will Roll Review: Johnny Depp and Christina Ricci face supernatural forces in the marvelous fantasy thriller "Sleepy Hollow". In the turn of the 19th century, New York investigator Ichabod Crane (Depp) is assigned to investigate a series of gruesome murders in the mysterious town of Sleep Hollow. The townspeople believe that the murders were the work of a fierce phantom known as the Headless Horseman. Crane, who disbelieves in ghosts and ghouls, learns the terrible truth behind these unusual deaths. "Sleepy Hollow" is Tim Burton's stunning adaptation of Washington Irving's "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow." The movie is a powerful and visually amazing suspense mystery with a supernatural twist. Johnny Depp delivers an impressive and often comical performance as the cowardly Ichabod Crane. Christina Ricci is very enchanting as the beautiful Katrina. The film is presented in its theatrical widescreen format. Its picture quality is positively sharp and the 5.1 Dolby Digital sound is truly exceptional. Its special features include an audio commentary with director Tim Burton, a behind-the-scenes featurette and interviews with cast members and crew. "Sleepy Hollow" is a substantial improvement over previous Paramount DVDs and earns a "B+".
Rating: Summary: A good COMEDY movie Review: First of all I should say that I liked this movie. It was pretty good. I've been reading reviews of it and there are a lot of people who think of this film as a horror movie. I also would say it's a scary movie but there's one problem. IT'S NOT SCARY. If I had to classify this film I would say it's a comedy. Yes, some parts are gorry. Yes, some of it may seem unsetteling. But it isn't scary. Really some parts of the movie are lame. For example, in part of the movie Johnny Depp meets a woman who is wearing a vail. When she takes the vail off her face looks incredibly fake. Little things like that really annoy me. Let's just face the facts, horror movies aren't scary. Anyway, the movie had some good concepts. Like the four men and the conspiracy. Or the flashbacks about Crane's mother. I personally thought the best scene in the movie was when Depp was remembering his mother floating around in the woods. All in all this is a okay movie. I recomend it to anyone who likes comedy with a twist.
Rating: Summary: A tip for all of those about to watch this movie Review: Although a completely serious movie, the film has it's share of laughs. Note when Johnny Depp throws the horseman the skull the amazing through and the horseman's perfect one handed catch. My friends and I watched it over and over again. It rates up there with such poor lines as "Download your computer onto floppy" in Boiler Room, and "Another Winner...I'll take that peace pipe" in Fear.
Rating: Summary: Great Film Review: Despite the pacing being a little slow at first too me,this film really picks up steam&The Hacking Begins.Tim Burton&His Vision is Incredible.Real Strong Chemistry between Johnny Deep&Christina Ricci.Christopher Walken is Creepy as Usual&it works really well here.Very Strong Effects.
Rating: Summary: Tim Burton's finest Review: It's been a long time since Tim Burton has actually directed a film that was successful, with disasterous hits like Mars Attacks! and Ed Wood, I was suprised that Paramount would let him make a production with such a huge budget. Sleepy Hollow is an extremely well made film, the set pieces are hauntingly beautiful, good special effects, a film score by Danny Elfman, and a long list of first rate actors. It's one of those movies that takes you on an adventure(something that I havent experienced in a while, going to the movies)This is a very uncommon film; Extremely inventive, a work of art, and also has a good story. Johnny Depp plays a variation on Ichabod Crane, Christina Ricci plays young Katrina Van Tassel, along with Christopher Walken, Christopher Lee, Miranda Richardson, Ian McDiarmid, and Casper Van Dein. It has splashes of violence, dark humour, gore, drama, and suspence. What more can you ask in a film? Buy this movie and you wont be dissapointed. It's rated R for gore and a scene of sexuality, but nothing that should frighten the kids, I personally think it should have received a PG-13 rating due to the absence of profanity, nudity, or drug content. Besides it is a classic novel by Irving Washington this is an American Folk Tale that I think shouldn't of been taped with an R rating (such a harsh rating for a movie based on a fairy tale). It is rated PG-14 in canada though so dont let your teenagers miss out on this one.
Rating: Summary: Such grand and wondrous evil... Review: Tim Burton, Danny Elfman, Johnny Depp, Christina Ricci, Christopher Walken, Ray Park...how is it possible to go wrong here? :) One of the best movies ever--great plot, great characters, great villain, great SFX, great gore, great music, great everything else. If you are a fan of horror or fantasy, you'll kick yourself if you miss this.
Rating: Summary: GORY GORY GORY BUT FUNNY FUNNY FUNNY Review: Awesome. This movie is the best depiction of this urban legend (THE HEADLESS HORSEMEN). You might want to leave the kids in another room and keep a bowl by the couch but other than blood and gore this movie has potential. it is soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo funny it deservs to be bought for that reason alone, and if you love comic books you will definently love this movie, it is like watching the pages turn. buy it today.
Rating: Summary: Sleepy (and) Hollow Review: Tim Burton's Sleepy Hollow is a good film with great special effects and visuals, along with another terrific score by Danny Elfman. On the other side it's confusing at times (depending on how much you are willing to pay attention), and has less-than-convincing, out of this world characters. I'll admit both of those things can't be all that bad, but when put into a film about the Headless Horseman (the film's best performance by Christopher Walken), the substance doesn't measure up to its hype. Burton's films are always hit-or-miss, for example hits: Beetlejuice, Batman, Edward Scissorhands; to misses: Mars Attacks! and Batman Returns. But this film truly is a road less travelled and winds up in the middle of hit-and-miss, somewhat with a final outcome of mediocre. On a positive note, the film does have surprising scenes of humor, and on an even bigger upside, the beheadings in the film are more humorous than gory and violent. That part that is gory is the aftermath, and you'll know what I mean. Christina Ricci was good in this movie, both in her looks and performance. In the long run see it before you buy it, otherwise you may conclude that you spent twenty dollars on a film that is worth the price of rental.
