Summary: One of my favorites
Review: I have always been fascinated with the story of sleepy hollow and am a fan of Christina Ricci so I knew this was a must see for me. I bought the dvd before ever seeing it, anticipating it to be great. I was right. This movie is not only a spooky, horror story, it has beautiful cinematography and the clothes are beautiful. This movie just has it all, for people who don't like gross movies this really isn't, maybe a little in some parts but the rest of the movie makes up for it. It's not your average horror movie; it's a classic and highly recommended.

Summary: Tim Burton's masterpiece
Review: Tim Burton is the master of moody storytelling, and here he proves his worth as he retells the classic tale of Washingtion Irving's The Legend Of Sleepy Hollow. Johnny Depp plays Ichabod Crane, a detective from New York sent to Sleepy Hollow to investigate an apparent murder. Christina Ricci is fantastic as Katrina Van Tassel, daughter of the most powerful man in town, co-conspirator of something sinister that may be related to the headless horseman, the one behind the killings. What follows is a suspensful mystery, with excellent picture and sound. This DVD has a cast interview on it, as well as the trailer and cast bios. And the sets are fantastic, with lots of grays and dark-toned colors adding to the dark mood. this is one film that totally flat out rocks. Tim Burton does a great job here with a great cast and plenty of action.

Review: I'm not much into horror, and I only watched SLEEPY HOLLOW because my sister made me. To my surprise, I found myself enjoying the film. It was a bit gory and I did hide my eyes in a few parts, but it shouldn't bother most people too much, except for those who hate blood, like me. The story itself was fascinating - so fill of twists and turns that it had me guessing pretty much the whole way. I'm not a big fan of Christina Ricci's acting, but she did an impressive job, as did actors Christopher Lee, Miranda Richardson, and Ian McDiarmind. The characters were beautifully portrayed, and even though some had relatively little screen time, they certainly made an impression on me. All in all, the film was well-crafted and presented - a great story for anyone who enjoys a little suspense.

Summary: Another delicious nightmare from Tim Burton.
Review: When and if I go mad I can only hope the things dancing in front of my unblinking eyes resemble characters from Tim Burton movies. As surreal and nightmarish as 'Batman' and 'Edward Scissorhands' were, they can't hold a candle to 'Sleepy Hollow". The whole film oozes atmosphere. And the effects are simply amazing. There were times in 'Sleepy Hollow' that made my jaw drop. From the first decapitation to the first appearence of the Headless Horseman, emerging at full gallup from the heart of the Tree of the Dead, I was stunned. The storyline should be familiar to everyone, the only real difference is the change of Ichabod's occupation. No longer a school teacher he is now a Constable, sent to the remote town of Sleepy Hollow to investigate the rash of beheadings that plague the small town. Johnny Depp's portrayal of Ichabod is great, playing him as a frightened little girl trapped inside a man's body. Ichabod is also haunted by nightmares of his childhood which we experience through beautiful flashbacks. Once set upon the case he meets Katrina Van Tassel, played by the impossibly beautiful Christina Ricci, and a whole town of squabbling politicans and doctors. The supporting cast is pure vintage goods, featuring fine performances by Michael Gambon, Jeffery Jones, Miranda Richardson, Christopher Lee, Michael Gough, and Ian McDiarmand - some of which are old veterans of British horror, all of which are great. Given what little screen time these actors are given, it's testimony to their performances that we feel very comfortable with them and actually like them, no matter what dark secrets they might be harboring. The violence in the film is graphic, to say the least, but nonetheless very comic-booky. The blood looks like poster paint and every decapitation and impaling is so deftly shot that one doesn't have time to really dwell on the image, just enough time to be shocked. The film isn't very terrifying, not in the Friday The 13th sense of the word, anyway. What Tim Burton has done here instead is make a perfect fable, a bedtime story told extremely well by a man who has an uncanny knack for creating whole living, breathing worlds whose inhabitants and scenery are not only unforgettable but also wholey original. Burton's best film so far. Note to readers: see this film on DVD. VHS format simply doesn't contain enough clarity to fully appreciate the amazing set pieces and stunning special effects.

Summary: Look at me!!! I'm Tim Burton!! I'm CLEVER!!
Review: Well after the atrocity that is known in the english-speaking world as MARS ATTACKS! we get this return-to-form from the reigning MTV generation film dork. Does this guy read? No sense of any comprehension of early-American customs or style in this film other than the - look at me I'm witty syndrome - so prevalent in this filmaker who caters to the A.D.D. children of this beleagured era. You've just got to love the completely hambone Johhny Depp performance-- acting like he thinks people think he should act in his part. As usual with films post-1965, I find it exceeding difficult not to just blabber endlessly about my irritation-- so I decide to pick out the most salient pathetic-ness of any individual film. For this candidate, I choose the HEADLESS HORSEMAN AS PORTRAYED IN TIM BURTON'S FILM "SLEEPY HOLLOW." The Disney one is better. I felt like I was watching a Jim Henson creation in some scenes, and then in the others with Christopher Walken he looked like a vampire reject from Coppola's Dracula piece-of-garbage film. There is really no mystery to this character he is just a spook. Once again, READ THE BOOK you illiterate Hollywood sun-rotten bikini-drooling dim bulbs. Give me a Corman film any day of the week. It won't suffer from such profound disillusionment.

Summary: Headless Horsemen
Review: The story for "Sleepy Hollow" is said by many to be a classic tale of witchcraft and the supernatural. But, I wholeheartedly disagree. There isn't anything to it after you get past guys on horses without heads terrorizing everything. The movie has sooooo much head chopping that you couldn't see anything more disgusting no matter how hard you looked.

Summary: Wonderful gothic nightmare
Review: So many times, watching horror movies, I have thought to myself: They don't make them like they used to. I stand corrected! This is a film the like of which hasn't been seen in about 40 years. Waves of fog under a pale moon, the headless horseman, his innocent victims, none of which appear corny. And hearing this story as a child, I think anyone imagined the evil horseman emerging from the tree just the way it looks in this movie. A great hommage to the old Hammer Horror, a modern Classic in an old tradition.

Summary: The Legend of Sleepy Hollow Comes to Life!
Review: GREAT MOVIE! Anyone who grew up intrigued with the original Legend of Sleepy Hollow should find this movie fascinating! Although slightly different from the book, the story line consists of mystery, murder, conspiracy, and love - elements that pave the way for a great movie. Special effects are spectacular - heads really do roll! The cinematography is excellent/creepy - really puts you in the mood for a good 'ghost' story.

Summary: wECOME tO hELL
Review: Genius. The blood that cauterizes into something like wax to close the contract of dread with the seal of evil. Heads fall like guilt before the judge, and the terrible mechanical instruments of truth are born to divine the guilty from the innocent. Evil-doers are supported by those in power, while the clean spirited are burned and hurt and misused. That's just the first 5 minutes of the thing. Faces so pale, it may as well be in Black and White. Evil created by so "righteous" a crew, that one might as well forsake all that he has learned and give up to the truth. Abandoning everything that you've been taught by this society about good and evil and the givers and the perpetrators of them is the only way you'll understand this master work. Forget too the Edward Scissorhands, and the Nightmare Before Christmas, and that BeetleJuice. This story has to stand by it self! to be understood. If you have eyes and ears, use them, and enjoy what has to be one of the few masterpieces of this age.
