Summary: Criterion edition a good DVD for a great movie
Review: The Criterion edition of the DVD has many added extras that make the extra cost well worth it. A very interesting commentary is included with Hopkins, Foster and a couple other people. They provide more incite into what went into making the movie, and their own perspecives on various aspects of the film.Some extended scenes are provided, although they are not exactly 'deleted scenes' like the cover says. Plus the 'voices of death' part is text taken from some book about serial killers. It is pretty interesting but also disturbing. Even though the copy is out of print now, you should try to get a copy if you get a chance. You'll like the added features thare aren't present on the other edition of the DVD. Highly recommended.

Summary: Thrill ride from start to finish! An absoulte classic!
Review: Silence Of The Lambs is an excellent film. Fueled by powerful stars and Demme's direction. Clarice Starling(Jodie Foster) is an FBI agent in training. She is recruited to help out with a major case. A serial killer, Buffalo Bill is killing young women all over the country. Starling is asked to question another killer in custody, Hannibal Lector(Anthony Hopkins) for clues on the case. The film has a great plot and is an excellent film. Jodie Foster and Anthony Hopkins, especially are in top form. All the oscars this won, it deserved. No doubt A MUST SEE! I highly anticpate Hannibal, its sequel due out next month. I would like to get the criterion dvd someday. The song I know a lot of people want to know as did I is called Goodbye Horses by Q. Lazzarus. This of course is the song that plays when Buffalo Bill dances with himself in front of the camera. A great song that sets the mood for that terrific scene. Also Tom Petty's American Girl is heard while Katherine is driving in Memphis. Rated R for violence, gore, nudity, and profanity.

Review: JODIE FOSTER AND ANTHONY HOPKINS ARE BOTH GREAT IN THIS MOVIE. ANTHONY HOPKINS IS BOTH SCARY AND FUNNY. HE TAKES YOU OFF GUARD. IN ONE MOMENT YOU FELL THAT HE FEELS SORRY FOR JODIE FOSTERS CHARACTER AND THEN IN THE NEXT SECOND YOU FEEL THAT IF HE HAD THE CHANCE HE WOULD KILL HER TOO. IT IS NONE STOP ACTION, AND SUSPENSE. IT KEEPS YOU INVOLVED IN THE STORY AND YOU FIND YOURSELF TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHO DID IT WITH JODIE FOSTER. THE ENDING IS GREAT. CAN'T WAIT UNTIL THE SEQUEL, TITLED HANIBAL COMES OUT.

Summary: The silence of the Lambs - the criterion version DVD
Review: THE STORY --- Well almost everybody has seen this movie I suppose, but for the people who doesnt i shall tell you the story in short. Clarice Starling (Jodie Foster) is a unexperienced FBI agent who's being put on a serial killer case. Because psychopath kills at random and they have no clue on them Clarice Starling is being told to visit Hannibal Lecter. Mr. Lector was a psychiatrist but also a very smart and evil serial killer. He helps Clarice Starling with the case in his own way. CONCLUSION --- The movie is great no doubt about that. But dont expect a huge picure and audio quality. If you have trouble selection the criterion or the normal edition, the criterion edition has extra's on it but not more than that.

Summary: A Well-Crafted Thriller.
Review: The Silence of the Lambs is the best thriller I've ever seen. It rightfully earned every Oscar it won. The story is fantastic and original, although it does include some objectional material. The casting is terrific. I've never seen a performance better then the one given by Anthony Hopkins in this film. He brings a whole life and mysterious awe to the character of Hannibal Lecter. Jodie Foster is also to be commended for her superb acting job. Ted Levine does a wonderful job as the sick and twisted "Buffalo Bill." The music is good and very haunting. Jonathan Demme's direction is pretty good. The picture quality on this DVD is great. The commentary track is pretty informative and the deleted scenes are ok. If you aren't squimish and you haven't seen The Silence fo the Lambs, I would suggest you check it out.

Summary: A "gravely" disappointing DVD
Review: Only three stars for this marvelous film? Heavens, no. The problem is the DVD. (Please note that there are currently two DVD versions available on the market. The one I am reviewing here is the regular Widescreen DVD edition, ASIN 6305073333. There is also a widescreen "Criterion Collection" DVD of this film available that I haven't seen.) I consider "Silence of the Lambs" among the finest thrillers ever made. It's also a rare example of a superb film adaptation of a superb book (by Thomas Harris). I'm not going to waste bandwidth repeating all the marvelous attributes of this film stated in other reviews here. But such an outstanding film deserves a better DVD than it got in this edition. The film only displays in 1.85:1 widescreen, and the audio is only Dolby Digital two-channel Surround. There are no extra features, language tracks, subtitles, or other options. The quality of the video and audio transfers is okay, but no better than what one would get from a good VHS tape. The only reason to buy this edition rather than a tape is if you want widescreen, and if media durability or DVD searchability is a high priority. Five stars for the film, two for the DVD, and not a good value compared to other DVDs available.

Summary: The Exorcist? The Sixth Sense? Why bother?
Review: I recently saw The Exorcist in theaters. Scariest movie of all time my foot. Which of these keeps you awake at night: a little girl in green makeup, or a tongue-devouring, muzzle-clad Anthony Hopkins? This is the only movie that has even come close to freaking me out. Hopkins held me in a trance with his big, penetrating eyes... Foster delivered the best performance of her career... the intensity and visual style of the whole thing made it unforgettable. The psychological thriller to end all psychological thrillers and subtly frightening enough to gain itself the position of the scariest movie ever made. NOTE: If The Exorcist, The Sixth Sense, The Haunting, or any other such "scary movie" gave you the creeps, never watch The Silence of the Lambs if you hope to sleep again. Then again, that's a small price to pay for an experience such as this.

Summary: Please, one is enough
Review: This is a classic, and as such, there should be only one made (can you imagine a sequel to "Casablanca"?) In some ways this movie reminds me of "Eraserhead": it's just too intense and too nightmarish to watch very often. Strangely, Lecter and the transvestite killer verge on being too cartoonish to be that frightening, yet the mood and atmosphere of the film makes them truly scary. This movie is very manipulative; you want Clarice to expose her psyche to Lecter (you actually believe he can--and wants--to help her.) Probably most bizarre of all, you're manipulated into rooting for Lecter at the end of the film, knowing full well he's a serial killer who eats people!
