Summary: Another good mother-daughter movie
Review: A daughter runs away from the horrible small town life she led and, in the process, runs away from her mother not realizing that her mother made sacrifices for her. I went to the movie because I thought King did a great job portraying a woman's voice and told a great human story without the gore. Bates is great as a blue collar, small town wife. In fact she always does well as just regular folk (see her in Titanic as a "regular folk" turned rich). Some films are not only well acted but visually stunning. This is one of them. You won't be disappointed. Surprising coming from the master of horror. It proves that King is really the king of storytelling.

Summary: DOLORES CLAIBORNE ROXX!!!!!!!
Review: What a great film this is! It is one of my favs and i am a proud owner of it as well. The acting in this film is beyond brilliant! Top notch performances from Kathy Bates (best actress in the world!) Jennifer Jason Leigh, and the actress who played Vera. Why was this film not mentioned during oscar time?

Dolores Claiborne is a haunting story of a woman unjustly accused of murder the second time around. Well actually the first time she was accused........no, I won't ruin it for you. The way it is filmed is dark with runny patches of colorful, bursting skyscapes during the eclipse. The spell it casts on you during this sequence is amazing. A definate classic of a movie, totally worth owning. And don't even go there with comparing it to the book. We all know you book readers are gonna fuss and pout everytime you read a book and run out and see the movie later. Have you all not learned your lessons?!? Stop reading and just watch movies! Duh!?!

Summary: Predictable and un-enjoyable
Review: I have seen this movie several times, and each time, I find it to be more un-enjoyable, and poorly developed. It does no justice to the book.

Summary: Excellent plot/acting
Review: I have seen this movie a few times and every time I see it I learn to appreciate something new each time. Selena as a child and adult are very convincing. Kathy Bates does an great job in this movie. The suspense and irony is great.

Summary: An outstanding DVD--Director's comments were great
Review: I had already seen this great movie and agree with all the comments on acting, writing, etc. I would like to comment on Taylor Hackford's comments. One of the main reasons I have a DVD player is to take advantage of all the extra features on them and the audio commentary from the director is the best feature. I think every director that is planning to do one (and I wish more of them would), should listen to this one. Taylor Hackford was great. This is exactly what we want to hear. We don't want them to retell the story. We can watch the movie for that. I won't go into everything he said, but I felt like I was on location with them going through all the problems and joys that must go into making a movie. The only other one that matched this was Kevin Costner and Jim Wilson on Dances With Wolves. If you appreciate the director's comments, I'd highly recommend these two DVD's.

Summary: exceptional story one of the better King movies
Review: I am not a fan of Stephen King but I found this movie to exceptional. This was an oscar performance by Kathy Bates.

Summary: Yet another Masterpiece from Stephen King
Review: This movie has so much feeling in it, and Oscar winner Kathy Bates is perfect as Dolores Claiborne, a misfit in her community because the townspeople believe that she is a killer. Is she? 'Dolores Claiborne' takes you on that journey to see what really happened in the incident that has become legend in her town. Is Dolores a good guy or a bad guy? You don't know until the end, and by that time, you're dying to know.

Summary: Something of an Unsung Masterpiece
Review: Until sitting down this weekend with the DVD of Dolores Claiborne, I hadn't paid much mind to the film. Yet after seeing this pristine 2.35 print and listening to Taylor Hackford's commentary, this film is clearly an unsung gem. I don't know whether Hackford is a angel or a terror to work with, but I can't recall a better director's commentary. I've gotten so tired of all of these so-called commentaries where a group of people (the director, some actors, various flunkies) sit around and make witless jokes, meander wildly and say very little about the artistic process of making the film in question. Hackford, here, is all alone, and he talks nonstop through the commentary, giving his co-workers enormous credit and giving the viewer/listening a direct and perceptive discourse on the process of making a film. You'll understand more about Magritte, the differences between Kodak and Fuji film, Nova Scotia and so much more by the end. Hackford's commentary is so heartfelt and persuasive, that you'll want to rewatch the film again to appreciate the subtleties of his incredible actors Bates and Leigh and of the film itself. My only quibble is that Hackford thinks that those blue screen shots towards the end look real, when they look as weird as those Michael Mann blue screens in Heat. The weirdness of the blue shots are fine for the film, but don't kid yourself that they actually look like the real world. Otherwise, a very high recommendation for this film!
