Summary: The music is Excellent!
Review: I recently saw this film on a movie channel, and although the film is pretty decent, the music makes it great! I found out that the composer is Christopher Young (who also did the score for 'HELLRAISER') and his haunting melodies are proof of how important the soundtrack is, in making or breaking a film!

Summary: Give the movie the chance it deserves...
Review: Just finish reading the book *Flowers in the Attic* and that book litterally blew me away! And even if i never saw the movie *but ordered it on DVD* i can't wait to see it and i know that it will not be as perfect as the Novel but again it is based on the Book so in my eyes it wont be anything less but good!

Summary: A movie that will make you think
Review: This movie was really great although I liked the book better. Makes you wonder how a mother could do something so cruel to her children for money. Louise Fletcher is great as the grandmother, a really creepy woman. And Kristy Swanson is wonderful as Cathy, a strong willed teenager. I like the ending to the movie better than the book. You could say the mother gets what is coming to her, a well deserved end.

Summary: dissapointing
Review: i am a massive fan of the flowers in the attic book, but i guess that's why the film was such a disappointment for me. i had read a few good reviews but mainly bad reviews, but i decided to buy it as it wasn't that expensive and see for myself.
the film doesn't last that long and i appreciate that they could not film it how the book was written word for word. i don't think any film could go into that sort of depth, and make you feel exactly what the characters are going through.

when i read the book i could feel every emotion that the children up in the attic went through, but when i saw the film, i just did not feel anything. what got to me the most is the ending. i'm not going to give it away, but they couldn't film a sequel even if they wanted to! i don't know why it ended the way it did, so totally different to the book, and cathy and chris falling in love is such a main part of the book, but the film just did not emphasise this.

i would not reccommend this film, but if you're curious then by all means, rent it out or something, but if you are a massive fan of the book, then you will probably be dissapointed.

Summary: An insult to the book - Skip it
Review: This movie was so far from the book, it should have had a different title altogether.

The best parts of the book were left out: the fact that Chris and Cathy became the true parents of the twins (Movie Carrie continued to believe in her mother until the end while Book Carrie and Cory come to see Cathy as their mother). Chris and Cathy's romance is essential as a theme of the book because it parallels the 'evil breeds evil' theme that the grandmother believes in and what the children come to realize later: what *true* evil is.

If the movie was going to be made, the filmmakers should have at least had the courage to do it accurately. People like the book for a reason. The ending was understandable (there had to be closure to the movie; they weren't making a mini-series) but ridiculously executed. It fit with the rest of this ho-hum movie perfectly.

Summary: DVD quality
Review: My first DVD copy of this movie was flawed. Near the end the picture would freeze. I sent it back and got another copy and it does the same thing. I tried both copies on several DVD players and it did the same thing. So I am thinking that maybe all of the copies of this movie are flawed. It starts freezing about 8 minutes before the end of the movie. So if you get the DVD version be sure to check it out as soon as you get it to make sure you got a good copy. I did not do this so I can not return my 2nd flawed copy.

Summary: If you enjoyed the book....dont watch the movie.....
Review: After I read the book Flowers in the Attic, I was very excited to see the movie because I liked the book so much. But I'll tell you this: the movie was hardly anything at all like the book. I mean, I fully understand that they can't make a movie exactly like the book because if they did, the movie would be hours long...but still, they can atleast put in a few of the main parts that actually hapened in the book. I dont mean to spoil it, but the ending was totally [different from my expectations]. You cant just change the ending completely and expect people to like it. Basically, I was just thourally discusted with the movie. When I first started watching it, I didnt even want to finish it and I was only 30 minutes into it.
If you've never read the book and you watch the movie, you will probably like the movie alot, but if you read the book first, its a different stroy. Mainly, what I didnt like about it is how they changed basically EVERYTHING. From the incestuous love between Chris and Cathy, to the way the children lived lived throughout the period of time they were in the attic, to what they were going to do with the children after their attic stay... If you enjoyed the book, don't go on to the movie, go on to the next book:Petals on the Wind. It is a much better choice.

Summary: Not nearly as good as the book! ( I give the book 5 stars!)
Review: In my point of view, if you want to know the real story, read the book! I read the book before I saw the movie and I was VERY disappointed. The movie leaves out all of the feelings and losses of the characters, which is what makes the book amazing.

The story is about four beautiful children (Chris, Cathy, Carrie, and Cory), who are locked away in a room by thier selfish mother, with a filthy attic as their playground. Their cruel heartless Grandmother brainwashes the small children, Cory and Carrie, into thinking that they are "devil's spawn", and they are painfully malnourished. They live each day as if it were a year, sadly awaiting the truths that are to come from their greedy mother.

This book will capture the tears from your eyes, as you feel the trials and triumphs of four helpless children, locked away without care.

I recommend the rest of the dollanganger series from V.C. Andrews, from the escape from the attic; to the return; and thier lives still haunted by the house; and a Pre-quel.
-Petals on the Wind,
-If there be Thorns,
-Seeds of Yesterday,
-and finally, Garden of Shadows.

Summary: Flowers in the Attic~ Louise Fletcher
Review: This is one of my favorite films and one of the first I had to get in my DVD collection. The casting for this movie was done really well. The mother plays her cryptic "evil or love" part so well I wonder if she might be crazy in real life. The grandmother is played by Louise Fletcher who is my favorite actress of all time. She does a wonderful job of stirring your inner emotions that you almost want to reach through the screen and give her a good "smackdown". My rating is based on the film itself and not the book adaptation, so if you read the book you may be dissapointed. Book fans in most cases have already developed a movie in their mind, so this might come up short for you, but for the average thriller fan who hasnt read the book this film is a real treasure.

on the downside, this DVD comes up very short with its extra features. I was dissapointed that there wasnt any at all, but I still had to get it for my DVD collection. The DVD chapter selection feature that comes with all DVDs helps out when you want to skip to those favorite scenes

Summary: To all of those questioning the film's score:
Review: This mellow dry movie was a must to my DVD collection. If you love this movie I highly reccomend "People under the stairs" by Wes Craven.
To all of those consumers and reviewers wondeirng about the film's score, it is composed by the talented artist "Christopher Young." He also composed such scores as Sweet November, Spy Game and many hororr movies. The best way to get the music is to download it from a music sight.(Kazza) Many of times it will not show up, but if your patient I promise you will find it. One last thing, I also reccomend the extremely talented artist "Danny Elfman." His work is extremely similar. He has composed themes for Edward Scissorhands, Sleepy Hollow, and Dolores Claiborne. Some other songs you would enjoy is the theme to "Cider House Rules," "Unfaithful" and lastly "plastic bag theme" to the American Beauty Soundtrack.
