Summary: Could Have Been Better...
Review: First and Foremost: READ THE BOOK!
The movie is good...but not GREAT! The Casting was brilliant all around. The Script Story left out Major Plot-lines from the book...like the fact that Cathy and Chris end up falling in love with each other!

I own this on DVD and enjoy watching it even though the Script is Weak...there's just something extra creepy about living in an attic. Creepy and kind of cool at the same time. It's like living on a deserted Island...I guess.

This is the ULTIMATE in FAMILY DISFUNCTION!!!!
Go ahead and See It...

Summary: Leaves you with that fun creeped-out feeling
Review: Any fan of V.C. Andrews will appreciate this movie because it stays with the book's intentions. Based on a true story, this shocking movie is worth seeing. It is one of the creepiest movies I have ever seen. After the death of her husband, a mother takes her children to live in the gothic house belonging to their grandmother. The kids are kept in the attic, and the movie gets stranger from there. The characters are cast with the thought and originality that went into the book. Victoria Tennant is convincing as the mother of 4 doomed children left in the fate of their evil grandmother, played by the fantastic Louise Fletcher. And some people will recognize a young Kristy Swanson, from "The Chase" and the TV show "Grapevine". The movie moves quickly, but slow enough to build up fright and tension. You will be on the edge of your seat as the movie becomes more and more disturbing. The nice thing about this movie is that, like the book, it is tastefully disturbing without the guts and gore of traditional horror. I would recommend this movie to any fan of dark movies, and especially anyone who liked the book. And if you haven't read the book, this movie will even be more of a surprise. Now all we have to do is get this movie back in production!

Summary: Very Disappointing!!!
Review: I read the book and loved it. Couldn't wait for the movie to come out. At that time I usually didn't go to the movies. I would wait for it on video. I couldn't wait for this one. Was there on opening night and boy, was I disappointed. It barely touched what the book had. It didn't have the depth and sadness that is brought out in the book. Maybe if I didn't read the book, I could of enjoyed the movie. But I did read it and I was disappointed!

Summary: grandmother's house
Review: for the millions of us who loved v.c. andrews classic novel or the series, here is the adaptation that literally divides all fans. bottom line: either you loved it or hated it. i, for one, loved the film & it gets better with every viewing. first of all, the cast is perfect as they understood the story in it's entirety & what was required to pull it off on screen. secondly, flowers has the most beautiful yet eerie & haunting soundtrack i've ever heard. needless to say, this is probably one of the most underrated films in the eighties which never really got the credit it deserved. louise fletcher was completely wretched in the best performance of her career as an evil grandmother who keeps four innocent children locked away in her mansion. the children aren't allowed to leave their designated wing nor cry & scream or run about. she provides food & shelter but never any love or kindness for she feels it's impossible to feel anything but disgust for what is not wholesome. anyone who has read the book will understand the bigotry behind the grandmother's thinking or why the children must never leave the attic & moviegoers will constantly wish the grandmother or grandfather's death even though the film offers very little hope for the beautiful siblings who try to hold themselves together for as long as they can in the darkness of the attic while going without food & being subjected to much abuse from the evil grandmother. with promises of riches & owning all they could ever hope for, the children take the unnecessary & cruel punishment from the grandmother in hopes they will one day live normal lives again when their mother inherits foxworth hall at the reading of a will. anyone remotely familiar with this book or film knows that all dreams are shattered & that riches come at such a high cost. flowers in the attic challenges us in our beliefs while forcing us to understand or examine the meaning of having our freedom taken away from us with promises that can never be fulfilled by others who are only here for their own selfish gain. as many will tell you, the ending here doesn't allow for any sequels sad to say. i would've been delighted to have seen new world pictures make sequels out of all the books in the dollanganger series but that will never happen. i had read somewhere that wqes craven at one time in the early eighties had pinned the project but evidentally jeffrey bloom had beaten him to the punch. although the ending here is quite creative & should satisfy most film fans, i seem to wonder sometimes if wes craven's version would've allowed sequels. we'll never know, right? as touching a film as it's sad, i can't begin to fathom why so many hated this film? i cry everytime i see it & it's also easy for me to get choked up when i think about the story although i've watched flowers many times. i'm disturbed, frightened, & touched by the events that take place in this film so i dare someone with an open heart/ mind to give this film a chance. although the film deals with some mature subject matter & has a few scenes of violence, it was given a PG-13 by the mpaa rating system.

Summary: Great for a Drinkin party
Review: This movie is SO HIDEOUS that it's good. The acting in this flick is appalling. In fact, it should be given cult status. I can see people inviting their friends over and having cocktails watching this piece of trash and laughing their asses off. It's that bad.

If you approach this film as a normal film, you will be disappointed, but if you approach it as a hilarious cult film, you will be totally entertained.

Laugh at the movie, not with it. If you get serious you will criticize it as a poor film, yet if you let it flow you will enjoy every minute of the bad acting. Poor Louise Fletcher. A good actor in a bad movie. So bad it's actually good. Kudos.

Summary: READ THE BOOK!
Review: If you went to the theater and saw this movie without having read the book, it is a pretty good story line, and fairly well cast.... on the other hand, if you read the book first, WOW what a disappointment it was for me to waste my money and my time on the film. I realize that book versions of anything, are usually better, but when you change a great deal of the story time-line, you have just invented something new, and should then re-name it.

Summary: Good Casting!
Review: I haven't read the book but after the reviews I am thinking of checking it out. The movie was very good in my opinion. The music was freaky and the casting was good. I thought that the mansion choice was good and that woman playing the mother played her part to perfection. I wanted to slap her. I need to stop saying the word good...hmmm.. Maybe it could of been a little more poignant if they had a less ennoying seletion for Cory. He had the most obnoxious little voice. Oh well..Swanson was good :)What are you people ratting about? I couldn't find anything humorous in the acting. Was the book that good, that you feel you need to rate this movie so poorly?

Summary: Great Movie
Review: I really enjoyed this movie the acting was great and the plot was believable. Iwas truly disturbed by the fact the mother could do that to her kids. Anyway I Recommend this movie it is classic and you do not get good movies like this anymore.

Summary: I liked it!
Review: Ya,
this DVD is worth the money. If you have read the book then, yes, you probably hated the movie, but with a book "YOU" are able to create what you want out of each character and mold them. With movies, it is all done for you, so ya I am sure you were disappointed if you read the book first. I enjoyed the movie, it is rather dark, but it is a good movie, for the 80's
I'd buy it again if I had to ;o)

Summary: Don't waste your money - rent it.
Review: I rented this movie recently because I was so enthralled with the book, I thought this might be enjoyable as well. I am very thankful I didn't buy it, because I was very disappointed. First of all, the cast is weak. When there should be emotion, there isn't and when it is shown, it is over-dramatic. The only character I thought seemed interesting was the grandmother. It seems like the script, the characters, just the whole movie was put together too sloppily and quickly.

My other problem with this movie is that it is not like the book at all. I was expecting a visual version of the book, but what I got was a movie based on the book with the same characters, basic plot, etc. They took some of the ideas from the book and changed them into something else. The ending was so twisted and different that it left me with a completely different feeling than reaching the end of the book left. I was extremely disappointed, to say the least. I won't go into details about the major differences because I know some people haven't read the book and I don't want to spoil this. Just let me say this - the book is so much better. You will be left much more satisfied by that than by this movie. Either rent this or just forget about it and go with the book. I'm very glad I found it to rent first rather than just buying it because it would have been a waste of my money.
