Summary: Beautiful and strange. Haunting and Enchanting.
Review: Strange and scary things can happen when "everything begins and ends at exactly the right time and place". The gorgeous setting and sountrack make this movie one of a kind. The ending may leave you with little satiscfaction, but in a way your own perception on 'what really happened' is all you need and believe me it will stay with you forever.

Summary: Beautiful, atmospheric and quietly haunting...
Review: Peter Weir's Picnic at Hanging Rock is nothing less than a masterpiece

Summary: Beautifully Shot but Pretentious
Review: If you're looking for atmosphere and nice cinematography, you've come to the right place, though that's about all you'll find here from a cinematic perspective. You want to see some great looking women? You'll find them here, too, though the best looking ones get the least amount of screen time. And for these morsels you'll have to sit through some embarassing acting and an even worse script--pretention and unmotivated action abound in every scene. It doesn't bother me that the mystery in the film is never resolved because that encourages one to ponder subtleties and hidden meanings. But there are some things going through the characters heads that we should be told and never are. I guess we'll have to read the novel for these crucial details.

Readers should note that the VHS widescreen version is only partially letterboxed (matted).

Summary: My Splean!
Review: Ok, this movie was a movie, I'll give it that, and that's all. The pretty location was the most exciting part of the film. The plot(?!?) was annoyingly ambigous, the acting was screeching voice-overed, and the headmistresses jiffy-pop hair-do was huge and unreal. I think my cat crawled under the couch and died. I would have noticed if I hadn't fallen asleep.

Summary: Cinema at its atmospheric finest
Review: Peter Weir's stunning feature debut is surely one of the best first films ever made - and showcases the ability he's had to grab your emotions in more straightforward films since. The atmosphere the film creates is phenomenal, pulling you into the creepy events relentlessly with the help of some beautifully paced direction and a beautiful, haunting soundtrack. Although it gets a little bit student-filmy here and there, it still thoroughly deserves its huge following. It's a modern classic in nearly every way. The DVD transfer from Criterion has a magnificent picture, free of smeariness and incredibly stable and clean for a film of such vintage. The soundtrack, too, has never sounded better, making the hairs stand up on the back of your neck more than ever. The only disappointment is that there aren't more extras - a director's commentary would have been especially appreciated - but there's still no getting away from the fact that this is by far the best way to watch such a great movie.

Summary: And then they rolled the credits.
Review: The patients in SB2 really enjoyed this film -- especially the catatonics. Of course, it was difficult to differentiate the catatonics from the other patients after the first 10 minutes loped by slower than a manitee on Darvacet. From that point in the film to just before the credits rolled is a blur, since the rest of the staff McLean Hospital and I lapsed into a short-term coma. Thank god for the credits as it was time to re-administer meds.

Summary: Oh my god! My head hurts!
Review: Peter Weir -- et al -- has, without a doubt, outdone himself with 'Picnic at Hanging Rock.' This work by far exceeds all my expectations and will be added to our arsenal of non-subliminal torture methods used for interrogating suspected cheese smugglers. The soundtrack alone can cause spontaneous balisar artery attacks and mild aneurysms, not to mention the sometimes "Zamfhir on Crack" sounding pan flute; my personal favorite. This movie was so bad... my cat died. Awesome. However, the plastic casing on the video itself disintegrated the moment I placed it in the blender, which leads me to believe it would not make a wonderful tasting smoothie. I highly recommend this movie... if you're currently taking Thorazine.

Summary: The most entrancing movie in years...
Review: It has all the ingredients for a suspenseful, exciting thriller: mysteries within mysteries, unsolved disappearances, exotic locales, and innocent maidens. A must-see movie for any fan of thrillers and unsolved mysteries. I especially liked how the movie ended - cliffhanger!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: A MUST SEE FILM!
Review: A semi-classic horror film that explores the darker side of nature/the human mind.I like it because it's not like your "normal" day films that have mass death,no plot, and profanity to no end for no real reason. A real film for people that want the drama/unknown side of things.

Summary: if you like fried green tomatoes you'll like this
Review: unlike some people in oregon i found the movie very interesting. of course if your mind can't concentrate beyond 10 minutes i wouldn'nt bother getting it. i found it much like fied green tomatoes . a great period piece. showing how young women were teated during the turn of the century. the ending does leave alot up for grabs. eerie beyond a doubt.

there are a few sub plots to keep things churning, but if your looking for alot of action you'll only get at the last 30 minutes when the girls turn up missing
