Summary: Different and unique
Review: Tired of the same old movies. You know the ones I'm talking about...the ones with never ending fight scenes, or things blowing up left and right, the ones with lousy dialogue and bad timing, corny moments and underdeveloped characters. Well, if you are - this is the movie for you. Creative, fresh, interesting, with as many twists and turns to keep you guessing and never for a minute regretting seeing this movie! The acting is good, the directing is superior, and the plot keeps you on your toes. I don't want to give anything any but the gist is the central character has a unique form of amnesia - he cannot, no matter how hard he tries, make new memories due to a serious blow to the head. He is trying to find his wife's killer...how he goes about this is the premise of this film. He has discovered some very creative ways with which to tell himself how the investigation is going. One tip - the film is played out in an interesting way that can leave you dumbfounded at first, but once you get the hang of how the movie plays out it's easier to follow. You may have to watch it twice before it all clicks into place! If you are a fan of twists and turns and an ending that mistifies - this is one to see!

Summary: A Mind-blowing Thriller
Review: This is simply an Awesome movie from start to finish. Well acted, well put together, well everything. Just think about it...You would'nt even be living if you lost your short term memory, you'd just be this thing or freak wondering around hopelessly. Christopher Nolan also made the movie "Insomnia" which was just released in theatres a while back also well worth checking out. Enjoy.

Summary: Don't buy this unless you are a HUGE Memento fan
Review: This review is of the Limited Edition DVD, not the movie itself. The movie is quite good, but unless you are fanatically devoted to it, get the "regular" edition, not this "Limited" edition. First of all, the menus are enough to drive you crazy. I like my menus to be simple and utilitarian; the menus on these DVDs are like a puzzle that you have to solve. Sure, it's cute the first couple of times, but after that it just gets annoying - especially the ones on disc 2, with the special features (including the "chronological" version of the movie - but more on that below). I can't stress enough how annoying these are. Imagine if the remote control to your entertainment system had 85 identically shaped buttons, with no labels on them. That's kind of how the menus on these DVDs are. I watch movies to relax; the Memento Limited Edition DVDs are more like a chore. Trust me, if you're just a casual fan like me, you will not like it. About the chronological version of the movie - yes, it is indeed on Disc 2. You can find out how to access it by trudging through the puzzling menus, or just looking it up on the internet like I did. Let me say this: THE CHRONOLOGICAL VERSION OF MEMENTO IS NOT NEARLY AS COOL AS IT SOUNDS! This version was the reason I bought the Limited Edition, and there are a number of problems with it, beginning with the fact that the only buttons that work during playback are "Pause" and "Stop." That's it. No fast forward or rewind, no slow motion, no subtitles. Believe me, this gets annoying real fast, especially since the movie begins with the complete end credits - rolled in reverse. Three minutes never lasted so long (and remember, you can't fast forward through them). Plus, the chronological version hasn't been re-edited or re-cut, so the scenes appear exactly as in the theatrical version, with the last few lines of each scene repeated as the first few lines of the subsequent scene. You would think they could have put in a little effort to make the transitions more seamless. And it's not like watching Memento in chronological order is absolutely necessary to understanding it; like The Usual Suspects, The Sixth Sense, and any other movie that requires the viewer to piece together information shown throughout the film, a second viewing of the theatrical version was sufficient for me to fully grasp everything. I didn't get a chance to explore any of the other special features on the Disc; it's just too much of a pain to try and find them. Bottom line: unless you are a huge Memento fan, save your money and buy the regular edition. You'll be much happier.

Summary: Incredibly Compelling Film, Mind-Boggling Navigation
Review: As a filmmaker, I found this to be one of the most original films of the last few years. In large part, this is due to the editing. The film works it's way backword, while the black and white footage progresses forward. The acting is great, and the character in the story is as confused as we are as to what's happening. This DVD version, like the Canadian bare-bones edition allows you to view the movie in chronological order of scenes should you wish or if you are still confused after the first viewing, but I recommend that you watch it the way it's intended first. As someone who's also designed and programmed DVD's, one feature of this limited edition is to be be either given high praise for it's design or extreme displeasure for it's navigation. To access anything on the 2 discs, you are presented the options for DVD navigation cryptically like a series of pshychiatric tests. Thank goodness for the Internet and it's multitude of websites that have mapped this labyrinth out for you. From a design-sense it's brilliant, but navigation wise, I can see why many despise this disc and the designers should have presented the viewers with an easy navigation menu system as well. It's worth the purchase, but check the Internet for navigation tips. I would give the movie 5 stars but the DVD's difficult navigation keeps the whole package at 4.

Summary: An innovative film.
Review: Now, the plot of this movie is good, but what Christophe Nolan has done, was take a seemingly normal plot and made it into a story that keeps you guessing and intrigued when the answer is really easy to see had it been in a linear style. The story is told backwards. You see the end in the beginning.
Guy Pearce is awesome as a man who has lost his short term memory due to an attack in which his wife was raped and murdered.
We see his character tell everyone that he can't make new memories and that his life is dead. He telsl everyone about Sammy Jankis, a client of his who suffered from the same memory loss.
The movie is good because it is done so well. Nolan is an important new director. His first film is a great independent debut, and "Memento" made him big, and now he's directing big bidget films like "Insomnia." He is goign somewhere. This film is worth seeing multiple times.

Summary: Interesting & well-done film
Review: This sort of movie is not really my thing, but I enjoyed it just the same, and I can recognize it certainly is a fine movie. I prefer more visually appealing screen blockbuster action-type flicks with lots of special effects myself, but there are a lot of classic movies I enjoy, and this one will probably become a classic in its own right. The overall premise is quite interesting, since the scenes occur in reverse order, as you watch the memory-impaired Guy Pearce try to solve the mystery of his wife's murder. Pearce does an excellent job in the role, as he methodically gathers the evidence and tries to sort it all out despite his memory impairment. Before his memory defect occurred, he was an insurance fraud investigator, and if it's one thing he learned from his old job, it's the importance of having a system for gathering the facts and considering the evidence. Pearce does just that, and by taking photos and writing notes on them, he is able to remind himself of the facts he has discovered during the course of his investigation and ultimately solve the mystery. One minor fault. In the movie, Pearce denies a claimant his insurance money because he "proves" that his impairment isn't due to disabling neurological causes, but due to his lack of effort to remember. In fact, from the symptoms, the guy obviously has what's known as complete anterograde amnesia, which is the opposite of the famous retrograde amnesia that many people are familiar with and has been used equally sensationally in movies. Pearce doesn't believe it's real, or at least he can throw enough doubt on the case to give his insurance company a way out, and thereby deny the man his money. I also enjoyed Pearce's role as the professor in the recent remake of the Time Machine. All in all a fine flick and worth seeing even if you're not into more thoughtful kinds of movies like this one.

Summary: a original film treat, but lacks a concrete message
Review: this is one of those "art" films in which the production and style is key to really the entertaining aspect of the flick. however memento is strictly a one-time offering. after watching this dark, twisted film of a very confused man suffering from insomnia you'll not want to really go through the ride again. the film invokes discussion, but lacks true depth in the rather twisted and confusing message. you'll either love it or hate it; film buffs will find it a breath of fresh air and casual viewers may simply find it depressing and unispired.

Summary: One of those like it or hate it films.
Review: The most well crafted film in recent memory. I loved this film but be warned, it may require intense disussion amongst friends at the end of the film. If you like films like the Usual Suspects and LA Confidential(and who doesn't?), then this film will be right up your alley. It has a plot twist that is second to none. Guy Pearce does an astonishing job in this film and you'd never know he was an Aussie from the vocal job he does in this movie. WATCH IT AS SOON AS YOU CAN! ...

Summary: Great movie Bad DVD
Review: Memento is one of the best suspence thrillers out there today. Full of questions and mystery follow Lenord Shelbe(Guy Pearce) through he's life in the world of shortterm memory loss, which means that he remembers everything up to his injury(during a struggle to save his wife) but he can't make new memories. Everything just fades. The movie is shown backwards with lits bits of footage in the middle. Director, Christopher Nolan brings you into a new world where your friends could be your enemies or the other way around. If you like this movie check out other films from the same director such as "Following". There was only one thing wrong with the movie and that is the confusing DVD title section. You have to go through a bunch of mind games just to get the movie started and the special features are even harder. I suggest you buy the other Memento DVD and save your money.
