Summary: Extremely well crafted film
Review: This is a mystery/crime drama of the 1990's that is one of the best films of all time. JMO..
It has all the elements of what I feel truly makes a movie "one of the best".
The Screenplay - without a decent screenplay, you have a bad film. This is without a doubt an amazingly great screenplay. It makes the film. While it does borrow from old films from time to time, it is just so well done. Good job, screenwriter! You got my vote for Eileen's Oscars as the Academy sometimes doesn't know what they are talking about.
The Acting - Totally awesome acting here. Kevin Spacey, hands down, is the best actor around right now. The rest of the cast is excellent. Kudos to Chazz Palminteiri!! He is very convincing as the cop. I love when he goes off on Verbal Kent about who Kaiser Sose really is. Little does he know...
The Plot -- This is a great story. The first time you see it, you will not be sure who Kaiser Sose really is. I knew, but my husband begged to differ.
The ending -- One of the BEST ENDINGS of a movie ever!! Well, next to Casablanca, it is the second best
This is just all my own opinions, but I've seen this movie several times now, and just like it more everytime. It is very well crafted in every capacity a film can be.
It is worth buying!! I gotta run out and get my copy soon.

Summary: The finest twist since oliver!
Review: Wow! Not only does this film have some excellent casual moments of hilarity, some cooly executed violence, some great characters, but it has the finest twist I have EVER seen.
The basic story comes from a cripple, Spacey, as he recounts his story to cop Palminteri. It shows how a number of crooks were pulled together by a mysterious crime lord whose very existence is in dispute. The crew do a couple of jobs before getting taken out on a boat during a drugs money intervention.
Writer Chris Mcquarie spins the twist perfectly and I don't know of anyone that guessed it.
it would have been easy to steer the whole film toward the final revelation, in which case the finale would have, maybe, been expected. Mcquarie manages to wrap the whole film up, conclude with one twist, before pulling the carpet out from under us just as we thought it had finished.
this film is a true calssic and among my top ten. Definitely worth buying. I've seen it nearly ten times and the end still makes me smile. Excellent.
Shame about Mcquarie's attempt at direction with the dubious way of the gun. Usual suspects is his finest hour.

Summary: talk about reinventing the wheel!!!!!!!
Review: what i mean by this is that this isnt the newest idea.that said, this is an absolutely fantastic, exciting take on the subject.every actor is incredible(yes, even the baldwin guy!)the one who steals the show is mr spacey.but youll have to find out why yourself.like i always say,LEAVE OUT RAPPERS/SINGERS/MODELS and your movie will be 80% better.but i dont think even the curse that is ice-t could have altered my rating for this masterpiece.keyser is the man!!!!!!!!lets start a petition for the return of keyser!!!!!!!!!!

Summary: The Usual Suspects Special Edition DVD Specs
Review: The film The Usual Suspects is a modern classic full of great performances all around. I noticed amazon.com doesn't have any extras listed for the special edition (arriving in April). I thoguht I would list them.

First of all the transfer will be anamorphic, and the sound track will be 5.1. Both are improvements from the first released DVD.

Other extras include:

Audio commentary with director Bryan Singer and writer Christopher McQuarrie and a second commentary with editor and composer John Ottman (already on the first release)

Deleted scenes with commentary by Ottman

"Pursuing The Suspects" documentary

"Doing Time With The Suspects" documentary

"Heisting Cannes With The Usual Suspects" documentary

"Keyser Sose: Lie Or Legend?" featurettes

A gag reel with Singer intro, trailers and TV spots.

This isn't a re-release of a DVD with an added trailer or two, this is a full blown special edition. It's a must for fans of the film, and a must for anyone who has interest.

Summary: have to see it atleast twice
Review: The Usual Suspects is one of those movies that you have to see atleast twice. A lot of information is packed into this movie and everytime you watch it, you notice something new making the viewing experience great. You can't really get tired of this movie.

Summary: This Could Have Been So Much Better
Review: Let me start off by saying this is one of my top 10 movies and if I was just grading the movie I would give it 5+ stars, but I am grading the entire DVD.
This DVD could have been so much more and had so much potential. The director's commentary was very informative and at times funny, but was just not enough. The commentary made reference to scenes that were left on the cutting room floor but for some reason were never included in the DVD.
It also would have been nice to get some commentary from the actors regarding their characters.
I can only hope that a special edition DVD comes out and offers this plus more.

Summary: Kevin Spacey Rules!
Review: This is one of the best movies, EVER! I can watch it over and over even though I already know "whodunit". You gotta get this one!

Summary: Solid acting and script with a twist...
Review: "The Usual Suspects" is one of those movies that you will either hate or love, based on your mood or your experience with movies like these.
The movie ends with a revelation that makes the whole movie either really cool or completely pointless...I won't say more than that on the subject.
It is scripted wonderfully, with the characters being introduced and developed relatively quickly and effectively. The acting is also superb (I believe Kevin Spacey was nominated for Best Supporting Actor...he may even have won it).
I found this to be fun movie with a storyline that unravels in a delightful fashion. Highly reccommended, but rent it first.

Summary: a masterpiece for the gameboy generation
Review: the usual suspects is primarily interesting on one level: in it's ability to surprise. if you watch movies to be intrigued by plot twists and aren't looking for much emotional involvement, perhaps this is a movie which will please. certainly the filmmakers and actors have created a clever piece of work.

if, on the other hand, you watch movies looking for something more-- let's say, something more mysterious, more ephemeral, something perhaps inspiring, or beautiful, something that gets into your soul the way great music (whether U2, Mahler, Miles Davis, Jeff Buckley, Manu Chao, Mozart, Cat Stevens, Eminem, you name your favorite) or great movies can, then I personally see very little here for you. there are no human truths here (the way there are in great thrillers by Hitchcock or John Huston, or Kurosawa (Rashoman-- that's clever, because it's about people!) there is no emotional subtext (except perhaps the unwittingly revealing narcissism of the filmmaking and a couple of over the top, showy performances, which reminded me more of a fashion show than the art form practiced by brando, james dean, sean penn, etc, an art form which makes the human soul visible).

the sad part is that the audiences, whose capacities to feel have been reduced by suckling from the tv nipple for so many years, lapped it up, proclaiming it a "great movie." and critics, desperate to suck up to the crowd (and hungry to find anything remotely "new") lined up to proclaim its structure innovative and "post modern."

in the end, i have nothing really against it except the fact that
i didn't care much about the characters and so i found the movie slightly boring despite all the games being played. frankly, perhaps i found the general coldness of the movie off-putting. even the darkest of characters usually have souls.

as a result, i felt that all the acclaim showed up how impoverished our pop culture (or at least the most hyped part of it) really is. (perhaps not a fair way to judge the film, but somehow the film seems to want to be taken seriously). if "chinatown" (a film with a dark but deeply felt vision of life) were released today, perhaps people would find it boring.

there are some true gems out there -- even the cohen brothers at their most "detached" still show an infinitely greater interest in the humanity of their characters than this film.

a masterpiece for the gameboy generation.

Summary: (Mostly) 25 Word Or Less Review
