Rating: Summary: Powerful story, but... Review: It took a while for me to recognize Matthew McConaughey as the lead of this movie. His screen presence is so weak, I feel. Also Sandra Bullock as a law student is certainly miscasted, like Julia Roberts in "The Perican Brief". But, Samuel L. Jackson's performance in this movie is so strong that I can never forget.
Rating: Summary: Heart Pounding Review: This movie inspires justice in our hearts
Rating: Summary: A timeless classic Review: Arguably the best John Grisham adaptation ever and the greatest film so far by Joel Schumacher, A Time to Kill has all the elements to become an all-time classic. Not only does the movie assemble some of the great contemporary actors in roles that range from expressive to phenomenal, but it also features a thought-provoking and extremely deep story from John Grisham's first novel, which contains much more than meets the eye. Even though some of the characters might be mistakenly taken for sterotypes, the symbolism and subtlety visible in almost every scene more than makes up for an apparently familliar nature of the main conflict. I was surprised that this movie was not included in the list of 100 best films of all time, recently assembled by AFI. In my opinion, it stands alongside such masterpieces as Judgment at Nuremberg or JFK as being one of the greatest courtroom dramas ever filmed.
Rating: Summary: WATCH IT!! Review: This is probably one of my all time favorite movies. It is onethat you definitely have to see for yourself. The only criticism thati have for it were minor errors in the movie. Like...the sweat...I know it's hot but COME ON!! And it the above description said that it was supposed to be set in the 60's however the police officers had what looked to me as a 1996 blazer...hmmm. If anyone can explain to me why... Otherwise it was a truly sensational movie. The girl who played Tania was a marvelous actress. Buy It!!
Rating: Summary: I loved it Review: I think that it really showed people used to treat each other. IT also showed that there was a turning point comming between racial clashes. i loved this movie.
Rating: Summary: Strong movie adapted from unusually strong debut book. Review: This movie will provoke many internal conflicts (is murder acceptable punishment for rape?) and will leave you feeling something. The storytelling is flawless, and you feel for all of the characters. While most films would look at a murderer as a villain, you understand and appreciate Samuel L. Jackson's actions. Matthew McConaughey gives a great performance as Jackson's lawyer, and definitely shows the emotions and effects such an experience would have on a person as the film progresses. The main conflict is black v. KKK, but many other conflicts surface, and unlike many other such complex movies, all conflicts are basically settled by the end (no loose ends). No one is really an outright villain or hero in this film, it allows you to make that decision. (By the way, don't be fooled by Sandra Bullock's top billing, she is simply star quality used to help sell the film, and she has a very small part.) I recommend reading Grisham's book as well, it's even better, and all the details are explained and described. He showed a mountain of talent, on only his first published book.
Rating: Summary: NOT QUITE FAMILY CIRCUS Review: Perhaps the most simplistic cliché ridden movie ever made. See the brilliant but green prosecutor -- see the brilliant old lawyer who no longer practices b/c of his dark past (here's an idea, this is such a hard case, let's make him face his demons and maybe he'll show up at the end to save the day with his one of a kind legal mind) -- see the brilliant "top of her class", but bored with her studies, law student looking to be really stimulated -- see the "must have been born evil to their inner core with not an ounce of redemption" racist boys (in case you didn't notice, they are the bad guys) -- see the ultra sympathetic revengeful father taking the law into his own hands (this is the good guy - actually, the only remotely interesting character in the bunch, but the movie never gets past the surface) -- see the romantic tension with the law student and the young prosecutor (surprise!) -- see people sweat profusely in the Court Room all the time b/c this is the South and its HOT --- see they are sweating buckets SEE SEE SEE (director: "we need more sweat here, bring the hoses"). Gosh I wonder how this movie will end. Whatever you do - do not see this movie unless you are really liquored up or your brain cells are otherwise in dormancy. More original thought goes into the average daily "Family Circus" cartoon than this entire movie. It unfortunately was a complete sell out that played to the masses - I am sure it made someone a bunch of money. The only thing this movie lacked was someone stopping the reel after the introduction of every character and stating - "did you get it, did you get it - this character is really really bad, he's bad!!!"...... GET IT, GET IT, this character is really really really smart"..... GET IT, GET IT. SEE TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD. ESSENTIALLY THE SAME MOVIE, BUT MUCH MORE HONEST, THOUGHT PROVOKING, REALISTIC AND WITH REAL VISION. A TRULY GREAT MOVIE.
Rating: Summary: Brilliant,Five Stars,Two Thumbs Up(I wish I had more thumbs) Review: If I had to describe this movie in one word, well, I couldn't. Due to my deep love for movies affiliated with law, a Time To Kill was extremely fitting. The suspense, the drama, and the reality of the situation allow for an ultimate viewing experience. This is not just any movie about law, it is heart-wrenching and at times heart-warming............It is just perfect. A MUST SEE!!!!!!!!!!!!
Rating: Summary: its the best movie ive ever seen Review: you have to see this awesome film it is a heartwrenchingly spetacular piece of work. sandra bullock and matthew mcconaughey are great
Rating: Summary: A good thought provoking movie Review: Being from Mississippi and my mother having been raised in Canton, where this was filmed, I was specially interested in seeing how my state was portayed. I also wanted to see my uncle who was an extra in the last funeral scene (but you can only see him in slow motion as they walk out of the house). The film mostly offers a view of a few prejudiced idiots. Sadly, there are people like this in our state. Actually, these days more folks are like Jake than are like the klansmen shown. The movie was great!! Just don't think we are all against persons who are different from ourselves.
