Summary: Only "Swim" In This One If Your A "Fan"
Review: What I'm about to say will either anger many or will have many agreeing with me. The public, when it comes to movies over-reacts. Think of "Town & Country", "Swept Away" (remake), "Crossroads", and this film. All of the above films, where not my favorite, but, I remember when they were released, all people did was talk about how bad these movies were, and of course they weren't anywhere near as bad as the public lead me to believe.

One of the reasons I enjoyed "Traffic" so much was due to the performance given by Erika Christensen. I thought, along with many others, that she really had something special. Many even thought she was robbed of an Oscar nomination that year. So when I heard about this film, I had to see it, just to know if "Traffic" was a fluke or does she actually have talent. Now, as I'm writing the review, think back on the movie I want to yell out FLUKE! FLUKE! FLUKE! But, in order to be fair I must also point out that perhaps it wasn't entirely her fault. Most will agree with me when I say "Traffic" has a better script then "Swimfan". So maybe that's what happened. And why her role wasn't what I'd thought it would be.

After all the acclaim she recieved for "Traffic", why would Christensen want to act in a movie like this? Did she feel it would make her a name with younger audiences? Was that the plan? Or did she actually think it was a well written interesting character for her to play. Then again it could of been that they offered her a lot of money. But whatever the reason is, I just hope that in the future Christensen picks on better roles, it would later turn out to be a waste of talent.

"Swimfan" as many are calling it is "Fatal Attraction" for teenagers. Ben Cronin (Jesse Bradford) is the best swimmer in school. And because of that he may get accepted into Standford. He also has a girlfriend, Amy (Shiri Appleby) he's in love with. Things are going pretty well in his life right now. But, of course one day he meets Madison Bell (Christensen). At first things start out innocent. She can't open her locker so she ask him for help. Then things get more serious. But, Ben isn't putting up much resistance anyway. And I'm sure you can predict when the script will go from there.

But, is "Swimfan" a bad film? I don't know. It's one of those movies where you can go either way. It has it's good points and it has it's bad points, and they even out in the end. If a friend told you he liked this movie, you'd be able to see their point. If someone said it's a bad movie you'd be able to see their point too. "Swimfan" does what it set out to do. It's not like it has some tricks up it's sleeve. No, what you thought were going to see, as far as plot goes, will happen. The writers are not going for anything else. It's because of that, that I'm giving the movie 3 stars.

Dirctor John Polson, doesn't seem very confident in his directing. The movie barely ever hits a suspenseful note. It's just going through a routine. And no one seems very excited about what they're doing. Plus the two leads, Bradford and Christensen don't play off each other well. But, they do try, so I suppose some credit must be thrown their way. My over-all opinion of the movie is that it's just simply average. It's not memorable. It's a movie in ten years time no one will remember.

Bottom-line: Despite the pressence of Erika Christensen, the film doesn't achieve much. It's a routine picture, and that's what it wants to be. Either you accept that or you don't! It's that simple.

Summary: A Great Thriller
Review: I like Swimfan not only was the plot great almost like Fatal Attraction. But the clear star of the movie Madison Bell you can't help but either love or hate. The actress that played her was awesome. Jesse Bradford was a distance second. The supporting actors blend in well. Great movie!

Summary: It
Review: I was thoroughly board with this movie. I kept waiting for some scary, intense moments, and they just never came. The movie was very predictable and was not worth mine or anyone else's time. I recommend this to noone, especially those with ADHD, because there is nothing in it to keep you there.

Summary: OK for kids, stinky for grown-ups
Review: This is pretty well made, but the story is old-hat. We know pretty much what will happen during the first ten minutes. The youngsters I babysit were glued to the screen. I was less enthralled, wishing there was a studlier male character to oogle. Jesse Bradford is a good actor, but he lacks a certain rawness that would increase his appeal. And Erika Christensen would be prettier if there was a way to deflate her face.

Summary: Swim Fan or Swim Fun
Review: Yes, Swimfan is Fatal Attraction in high school, but I would not at all compare it with "Fatal Attraction" the movie. The new student Madison Bell (Erika Christensen) is so crazy in love with swim-team star Ben Cronin (Jesse Bradford, who does by the way look much older than a 17 year old high school student), from the moment she lays eyes on him. Madison's seduces Ben (Cheater) from the get go, then 10 seconds after their little pool escapade, he feels guilty (yea right). Poor Ben now has to walk on egg shells around his girlfriend (Shiri Appleby)hoping she will not find out about his quick little affair. In the meantime, Madison is cooking up every trick in the book to torment and win Ben's love. From sleeping with his friend to framing him, to just about killing him. Oh by the way, her cousin, he was the (what) in the movie, and this part is dumb in the movie........I won't spoil the ending, you will have to see for yourself. All in all, I did enjoy and I did buy it. dusteddreams

Summary: SWIMFAN does not deserve any. (fans, that is)
Review: Okay, the movie wasn't that bad. No... wait... yes it was. I saw it with one of my best friends, and we were waiting online to buy the tickets when this guy at the door (an usher) let us in for half price. (five dollars instead of ten.) Let me just put it this way. When we left, both of us literally hugged the guy and thanked him for letting us in for a cheaper price. Throughout the whole movie we were joking aronud and laughing, not even half paying attention to it. And when we did, we found ourselves hoping it would be something funnier or scarier than was actually happening. The movie would have been better off as a "spoof" like Scary Movie. Take for instance when Ben (is that the guy's name?) was climing out of Madison's window. We were praying that he would fall. or that Madison would actually find him... or something interesting that never came to pass. We kept saying to ourselves "the end'll be great." well, we never saw the fruits of that labor. The end sucked, just like the beginning and the middle. You can only have fun if you like to make fun of movies, like "mystery science theatre 3000." I'm sorry, but it's true. After we hugged the man and left the movie, my friend and I were walking down the street shouting "You'll hate it, I know it!!!!" no joke. It was that sad, and we were that bored. We then went to buy frappucinos from Starbucks that were pretty good. We then went to the village, and I bought these pants on sale for 20 dollars. they were soooo nice. Okay, sorry for rambling on. Point being, spend money on pants not this. or go save up an extra twenty bucks and buy one of the Buffy seasons on DVD. or Angel. I've got all of those that came out, and theyr'e much better... much. Or go see Bringin down the house (HILARIOUS MOVIE) or buy Under Cover Brother. (great too.) Just do something better with your money. Give to the poor you know? Just... not this.

Summary: Swimfan
Review: I have never seen Fatal Attraction so I can't compare the two together. But if fatal Attraction is anything like Swimfan, I'll probably like it also. It is not the most perfect movie that I have ever seen, but it is something like a guilty pleasure movie of the week. I once again enjoy the rising Jesse Bradford, an improvement from Clockstoppers, and Erica Christianson who really shows the true definition of a femme fatale.

Summary: What were they THINKING???
Review: This movie was SO boring. I immediately wanted to see it when I saw the preview, but found myself waiting for it to end when I finally did see it. You can tell when they're trying to have it be scary, and you just think "What the heck?!! This isn't scary at all!" My friend that went to the theatre with me hated it too. Don't waste your money on this. The acting and plot is terrible. But if you're too tempted and still want to see it, rent it first! PLEASE don't buy it! This was a waste of my time. Don't let it waste yours!!!
