Review: I have respect for few scary films, and this is one of them. It has very good and unexpected twists, great cinematography, and a very well constructed plot. It definitively makes you jump out of your sit for some scenes. I truly recommend it for all horror film lovers!

Summary: If you think you've seen a scary movie...think again!!
Review: I've checked out "The Ring" on the first day that it was released. And let my just say that the film was intense and suspense-packed all the way from pulse-pounding start to unforgettable finish! The direction of Gore Verbinski ("Mouse Hunt", "The Mexican") was extraordinary! And the performance of the luminous Naomi Watts ("Mulholland Drive", "Tank Girl") was nothing short of excellent! "The Ring" is also a remake of a massively popular Japanese film of the same name a long time ago. This new version focuses first on a scene when one girl tells an urban legend about a videotape...and anyone who watches it gets a call saying that they'll die in seven days, which they do. This film then focuses on a skeptical Seattle investigative reporter named Rachel Keller (Watts). Rachel investigates the death of her niece as a result of this mysterious videotape. The girl's mother asks her to try to determine why her daughter died. Rachel soon hears talk of the videotape and discovers that the other kids who watched it with her niece also died, all at 10 p.m. the same night. Rachel tracks the tape down fairly easily and, without hesitation, watches it. Then she gets the call. Soon, creepy details pile up: Rachel's grade-school son Aidan has been drawing pictures of a dead girl at school, which Rachel takes to be a coping mechanisma after the death of her beloved niece--except that he started making the drawings before her death. Photographic images of people who have seen the tape--including Rachel and her estranged boyfriend (and Aidan's father) Noah (Martin Henderson), a video technician, to whom she shows the tape--are blurred. Having watched the tape and gotten the call, Rachel has seven days to unravel the mystery before her own demise, which gives the film its structure, and the details of the tape's origin begin to emerge. What at first seems to be the result of some electronic transmission coming from the tape itself turns into something a little different, and Rachel's sleuthing leads to an isolated island, an insane asylum, an old, dark house, a sordid family history, and other evocative ghost-story material. And the film goes on from there with lots of suspense and thrills that will keep you on the edge of your seat! In conclusion, "The Ring" is among one of the scariest films that I've seen since...anything! As recent horror films go, it's not as accomplished as "The Sixth Sense" was, but it does have some of the skin-crawling atmospherics of the finest arty '60s horror films--"Night of the Living Dead", "Carnival of Souls", "Repulsion". And it stays a step ahead of its many plot holes and implausibilities. It also comes with the now de rigueur twist ending, except this time, the device isn't gratuitous (But I won't tell the ending until everyone watches the film). And if nothing else, "The Ring" is notable as the first film for Naomi Watts since her historic performance in "Mulholland Drive". Watts acquits herself wonderfully in what is a far less compelling role than any of her other films, etc. "The Ring" also has a great supporting cast including Brian Cox ("The Rookie", upcoming "X-Men 2") and Jane Alexander ("Brubaker"). Like I said at the beginning, if you think you've seen any or all scary movies ever made...think again! "The Ring" is no exception to this whatsoever! A great DVD must-own when released!

Review: The movie had nice visuals, but the story line was so-so. It opens up with a good pace then slows down until about the end. I would recommend not seeing it if expecting something different. However if you are looking for the occasional jumps, freaky scences, and no gore, this movie could be for you.

Summary: A Let Down
Review: The ring could have been much better with better effects and lighting. Yeah the video tape was creepy but when you actually saw how people died, it was totally stupid. The girl from the well could have been done much better and the victims could have been a lot less alien then they were. Bottom line, the movie was OK, BUT NOT GREAT! It seems as though there has not been a real scary movie to come out since the original Nightmare on Elm St. A plea to all horror movie makers....... Please fight for a better budget and cast!

Summary: At Least Eight For The Price of One
Review: This latest addition to the catalogue of excellent Saturday afternoon horror films, Ghost Story -- no, wait, I mean The Changeling... no, I mean The Omen... no, I mean Videodrome... no, sorry, I mean Close Encounters of the Third Kind... oops, no, I mean The Lady in White... wait a second, no, I mean Poltergeist... no, wait, there was that scene in the well with the finger nail, from Silence of the Lambs... Goodness gracious, I'm all confused now. But this IS a terrific Saturday afternoon popcorn movie, and I recommend seeing it on the big screen. Enjoy.

Summary: Scary as hell, and just what I wanted...
Review: I just saw finished watching this movie earlier today. I will not spoil the movie, but many scenes from the videotape that flash very quickly are still "flashing" in my head. I honestly cannot remember watching any film as scary as this one, except for the basement scene in Signs. After doing my homework, I have found that this is a remake of a Japanese film from '98. For all of the people that are complaining that the movie left them with many unanswered questions, well, I have the answers. You see, this movie was clearly set up for a sequel, so if they told you all of the answers at the end, what would be the point for a sequel. Oh, and the other reason why it leaves you questioning many things is because it is a movie, and that is the purpose of a truely good movie, to leave you wanting to know more and to keep you thinking about it after it's done. That way, you will go and see it again to hopefully find out more answers. I give a major high-five to the director, actors, and everyone else involved in this horrifically great movie. The one question I did leave with that was unanswered was: How in the hell did they get away with this with a PG-13 rating? This movie makes all other R rated horror movies look like a joke. I hope this review is helpful.

Summary: The Imagery Is Scary!
Review: This movie succeeded in holding my interest and giving me the major creeps. The first film since the Exorcist that actually scared me and gave me bad dreams for two nights, it is a very effective horror film without much blood and guts. In fact, the most scary part is a black and white video piece that provides the premise for the movie. In isolation, nothing on the video is very scary (e.g, a ladder, a mirror, a centipede, a lighthouse, etc.) but the way it is filmed just creeped me out. On the whole, I really liked it alot and recommend it to horror movie fans. My only complaint is about the last few minutes, which really fell short given the build-up of tension and excitement.

Summary: A Waste of Your Time.
Review: THE RING was the highest grossing film on it's opening weekend. Based upon that, the many great reviews I had read about the film, and the comparisons to a Hitchcockian thriller I had heard about the movie, I watched THE RING this past weekend. What a waste of my time and money! That was the first time I can recall leaving a movie theatre and feeling like I've wasted my money! The movie is not at all frightening and instead of shivers, all I heard at the movie's conclusion was a large moan throughout the theatre. ... So, be forewarned. Don't waste your money seeing this film in a theatre. If you really want to see it, wait until it comes out on video.

Summary: Scary Remake That Is Good...
Review: A teenage girl dies after she has watched a video and her aunt Rachel Keller (Naomi Watts) is asked to investigate what killed her niece. Rachel gets a hold of the same tape, which she watches and subsequently receives a phone call where a voice says, seven days. Her research and the myths say that one will die seven days after one has seen the tape. Rachel now has to fight time in order to not only find an answer as to why people die, but also save her own life. The Ring is a remarkably well done film, but it is a remake after the Japanese film Ringu. If this was an original idea it would get a higher grade, nevertheless, it is a tremendously good and scary cinematic event.

Summary: Horror Film that you will be talking about
Review: People will definitely be talking about "The Ring" after they see it. I normally do not go to see horror films but I liked this one because you had to figure out a puzzle to stop the threat. Without giving the plot away, the major premise of the movie is a rumor that a videotape exists that if you see it, you will die in 7 days. A journalist, Rachel Martin (played by Naomi Watts) hears of this rumor when her 16 year old niece dies under unusual circumstances. Rachel, her boyfriend, and young son all see the movie and the clock ticks down each of the 7 days as they race to figure out how to stop their impending deaths. Careful viewing of the video shows clues that they must track down and their quest leads them to a story that happened years ago. Naomi Watts as Rachel and David Dorfman as her young son give great performances. While some people will not like the ending, I thought the ironic twist was good even if it did come to a close all at once.
