Summary: Mish-mash of horror films doesn't equal scary movie.
Review: "The Bone Collector" mimics the camerawork of "Silence of the Lambs", and the plots of "Copycat" and "Seven". This makes for an interesting movie with Denzel Washington as the bed-ridden detective who shows mobile detective Angelina Jolie the ropes in forensics. There are some flaws in the logic of the story, and it tries too hard to fit too many issues--the hardships of paralysis, the relationship between Washington and Jolie, Washington's estranged family, the gruesomeness of forensics--that the other aspects of the story suffer. Despite this, those who are looking for a scare, might enjoy this. Washington is fine as always, and Jolie is a promising newcomer. Two stars. Josh Bob says check this out at night.

Summary: Almost unwatchable
Review: This movie was bad. It was so bad that it made the good actors in it look bad by proxy. The plot was simplistic, dull and forced. The suspense was found in spots that must have read on the script as "(Insert suspense here)". Denzel Washington acted like Denzel washington acting as a cop. The tired 'foil' detective they tried to use as a red herring was so obvious it was painful to watch. The identity of the serial killer was so pathetic that it made me throw stuff at my TV. The clues left behind by the killer weren't all that subtle, I've seen smarter clues in Encyclopedia Brown mysteries. It's a boring predictable hollywood hack job. bad bad bad. Don't waste your money.

Summary: Pridictable but I still liked it
Review: Pridictable but I still liked it... Entertaining, to say the least? But I knew who done it, before the film clued us in. The DVD is worth renting, but not buying. Once was enough!

Summary: THE BONE COLLECTOR WAS A BONE THRILLER OF A MOVIE
Review: A great crime/mystery movie. Book lovers and movie lover this was good and I mean VERY GOOD. The only drawback to the film was the many differences from the book, but I gave it five stars For example, Rhyme's character was white in the book. I guess most book adaptations for movies will change the content of the story some what. With saying this, the movie was entertaining and just like the book, the story moves along with, you always guessing who is doing this crime. My last words would be this, "read the book by Jeffery Deaver, first, before the film." Overall, though, the film does not disappoint !

Alright come back to my member page for the next reveiw in MAY 2000. See YA!

Summary: It had potential, but . . .
Review: how many times do we have to see serial killers, period, let alone serial killers who employ insanely Byzantine methods to kill their hapless victims? I mean, STEAMING someone to death? Sheesh! What happened to good old-fashioned stabbing, followed by snacking, or something? (Er, I'm being facetious.)

A bright spot: Mr. Denzel Washington. In this ho-hum little thriller, he gives what may be one of the best performances of his career. No easy task, when you're refrained from dipping into the usual actor's bag of tricks. He conveys a great deal by merely speaking. Impressive work. Ms. Jolie, on the other hand, is far too emotional. How did this cop, as portrayed by Ms. Jolie, get through training?

If you care: the potentially great idea of a bed-confined detective solving murders is ruined by (as I said) a ridiculously clever madman (he even leaves clues -- ho-hum) who, NATURALLY, has a personal score to settle with the detective. One cliche after another. But a fine performance by Denzel.

Summary: Bone Collector - Brilliant Movie
Review: This is one of my favourite movies against the Negotiator. Great thriller that I would reccomend everyone to watch. I can't believe the average rating on this site is only 3 for this movie. Are we talking about the same movie? The Green mile is also a excellant movie if you enjoyed the Bone Collector.

5++

Review: The Bone Collector is an actual pleasing supensef- ul film. It has a good cast. And the effects were awsome. Get this title for aa good scare. I was dissapointed it didn't have enough blood in it though.

Summary: what a letdown
Review: With star billings like Denzel Washington & Angeline Jollie, & the director, Philip Noyce, I would expect a great suspense thriller but what I got instead is a very average Hollywood formula serial killer movie. The serial killer goes through the motion of killing people whilst leaving clues for Denzel Washington to solve, only to be hinted in the end that the serial killer has got a point to make (as if the audience couldn't figure that out for themselves). There's no tension interplay as I would expect in such type of movie, as depicted magnificently between Anthony Hopkin & Jodie Foster in Silence of the Lambs, or even Kevin Spacey & Brad Pitt & Morgan Freeman in Seven. Undoubtedly, Denzel Washington's presence helped to carry this movie to certain extent. On the hindsight, it also leaves us viewers with an after taste about relationships built up between Denzel & Angeline's characters which is not been explored concisely. It's like the director has the intention to carry the intention through but after finding that there's only a 20 minutes remained, he tries to squeeze all the plots in that much restrained 20 minutes. In other words, the movie overall could have been made tighter & flowed fluidly.

Summary: A brainy thriller
Review: The Bone Collector is an intelligent thriller about a serial-killer on the loose in New York City. The plot would be your typical "solve the case" mystery if it weren't for the utterly intelligent script and talented cast. Denzel Washington plays a paraplegic ex-cop with a main assett: his brain. With the help of a cop (Angelina Jolie), he is able to gather small clues left by the criminal and is able to solve the case. But there are a few surprises and plot twists that make this film very interesting.

If you love smart and well-written thrillers, then "The Bone Collector" should be on your DVD shelf.
