Summary: To Catch A Thief
Review: To Catch A Thief is great. It does not enjoy the critical acclaim of some other Hitchcock films - its target was a broader commercial appeal. But I'm a big Cary Grant and Grace Kelly fan, and the chemistry between them was terrific. Also, an excellent Hitchcock blend of humor and story line twist. Highest marks.

Summary: Not only worth a quick peek, you should buy it!
Review: If you have seen this film before, then the chance is you enjoyed it, it's hard not to. It may be slightly predictable - trying to discern the thief isn't all that hard, however, to see Cary Grant and possibly the most beautiful woman of all time (Grace Kelly, if you weren't sure) in a Hitchcock thriller set in the South of France is enthralling.
This film is wonderful; stunning scenery, an exciting plot and I smirk every time I watch the firework scene.
Many Hitchcock fans wouldn't consider this in as high esteem as his other Cary Grant picture of the 1950's or perhaps even 'Notorious' which is also a fine film, and possibly they are right. Even so, this film is from a director in his most creative era, Grant being as charming as ever and Kelly as resplendent as always.

Summary: All around class!...
Review: I really enjoyed this film. It showed good character development between the two main characters in the film, Grace Kelly's and Cary Grant's. The film brought intrigue and good tempo, it wasn't slow and boring in trying to develop its plot. I enjoyed it for its sense of style, its cinematography, and its attempt to show the world's most wealthiest region that it too can have some excitement!

Summary: An entertaining comedy/thriller...
Review: Although not one of Hitchcock's best films, To Catch is Thief is still a very entertaining comedy/thriller. I really enjoyed watching it (and have actually seen it several times). Its features include a clever plot, great acting, several comic moments, and wonderful chemistry between Cary Grant and Grace Kelly.

Essentially, To Catch a Thief is about a retired "cat burglar" (Cary Grant, charming as ever) who must clear his name after being accused of committing several more robberies. As he sets out to prove his innocence by catching the real thief, he comes across several intriguing characters - including a cool, sexy young American (Grace Kelly), her mother, and a beautiful French girl. To say any more would be to give too much away...

So, even though, as I said earlier, this is not one of Hitchcock's best (compare it with North by Northwest, for instance), it is still a very enjoyable and exciting film, greatly because of the wonderful performances and nice scenery. I don't know how else to recommend this - get it and enjoy!

Summary: One of Hitchcock's best
Review: This great movie starring Cary Grant and Grace Kelly is a masterpiece. When some famous jewels are stolen from rich people's houses the police in France immediately think of John Robie. John Robie, played by Cary Grant is now a reformed burglar and his nickname was the "cat". Cary Grant needs to find the real burglar and prove he didn't do it. Grace Kelly plays the daughter of another rich woman who has jewels. Grace Kelly soon suspects him and tells him so later. When her mother's jewels are stolen she immediately suspects Grant. This is a good movie! There are some great scenes like when Hitchcock gets the fireworks in France to light up and almost seem like it was happening that very minute. There are some great special effects and a great ending. A great film! A+

Summary: One of Hitchcock's best!
Review: This is such a fine movie, but I have a question, when will we Hitchcock/Grant/Kelly fans get to see this film in DVD format? The stoy is amusing and fun, with good plot twists. There is plenty of romance between Cary and Grace, but not sappy by any means. Watch this movie and see for yourself if it is not DVD worthy. It is much better than some of the other Hitchcock films that have relaesed on DVD! So do us all a favor, pull it out of the vault and format it to DVD. You won't be sorry!

Summary: Good Story With Hard-to-Beat Acting Combination
Review: A thief is on the loose in Monaco, along the shores of the Mediterranean. He steals jewelry from the wealthy, and leaves no traces. The police are after him. He is somewhat of a hero to the common people, as he is viewed as an equalizer. Cary Grant is very interested in this thief. Or, is he the thief? Grace Kelly is after the thief. Or, is she the thief? Whatever the truth is, Grant and Kelly find one another, and an excellent game of cat-and-mouse is on.

Cary Grant is suave, sophisticated, perfectly gentlemanly, enigmatic, charming and, well, he's Cary Grant. Grace Kelly is cool, sophisticated, charming, beautiful, and, well, she's Grace Kelly.

The music and the cinematography are quite good, the story never drags, and the scenery is quite impressive at times, especially during the chase scenes along Monaco's (very) winding roads.

This is a mystery, romance, and semi-comedy rolled into one. It's also an excuse to put Cary Grant and Grace Kelly together. It works for me. But, I'd rather see "North By Northwest" or "Charades".

Summary: A Beautiful Romantic Bubble
Review: There is much to like about Hitchcock's TO CATCH A THIEF: Cary Grant and Grace Kelly at the height of their appeal, a witty script that offers Jessie Royce Landis one of the funniest roles ever seen in any Hitchcock film, and excellent cinematography designed to show off the beauties of Monte Carlo--all packaged in a lightweight tale that is two parts romance, two parts travelogue, one part comedy, and just enough classic Hitchcock suspense to keep this lighter-than-air confection from flying apart.

The well known story concerns a string of jewel robberies along the Riviera which lead local officials to suspect that a famous and long retired cat burglar (Grant) is once more on the prowl--but rather than hope the authorities will find the real culprit Grant elects to protect himself by unmasking the thief for himself. In the process he encounters an icy beauty (Kelly) who takes considerable pleasure in tantalizing him with her charms, her jewels, and her knowledge of his criminal past, and her mother (Landis), who is perhaps the best of the "clever matrons" to appear in any Hitchcock film. As the police close in, the three of them devise a plot to expose the thief and clear Grant, with whom Kelly has now fallen in love.

Unlike most Hitchcock's most famous films, TO CATCH A THIEF offers nothing dark to trouble our thoughts, and it is perhaps best regarded as a romantic fantasia, the director's vacation from his more typical material. While it will never compete with the more famous VERTIGO and REAR WINDOW of the same period, it is extremely well done and quite a bit of fun to watch. Viewers seeking a pleasant film with a romantic touch will enjoy it a great deal.

Summary: Cary at his best with the princess
Review: Cary Grant and Grace Kelly set new measures for a top quality thriller. Both actress and actor are at their prime and the sparks fly!
